  • Anyone know where to buy the capacitors specifically for this gamegear project? I think I'm fine with soldering, but finding the exact capacitors needed is a headache

  • I'm currently doing this to my SEGA Game Gear.

I went ahead and replaced all five of the capacitors of the soundboard, and I just started replacing the capacitors on the motherboard.

It is a fun little project. My SEGA Game Gear's original capacitor's have been worn out since I got it seven years ago, probably before that.

Since I learned how to Solder about a year ago, I've been able to fix some of my old game systems, I also can replace back up batteries in Nintendo cartridges.

  • great video! I have the same problem too (almost all game gear users have;)) I'll replace my capacitors too, hope it improves the video quality

  • Actualy I think that is mineral oil inside a cap. I could be wrong though. :)

  • nice video, think ill order myself some caps and repair mine.

  • Mine has just been fixed and I'm waiting for it to be returned in the post. Can't wait! :D

  • Medaka350

What kind of Capacitors are required for this?

  • @Riddler95 47uF and or 100uF

  • on a scale of 1 to 10 in difficulty (10 being the hardest) what would you rate this?

  • @GamerBoyGU82 About a 6 I guess, only because one or two parts are tight fits that were hard to squeeze in.

  • ok cool, I'm going to be attempting this as soon as my caps come in the mail

  • lol

    thats nothing compared to mine

    mines broken horribly

i want someone to fix it for me,but cant find anyone

    oh wells

  • Good fix, mine's like that except 10 times worse...

  • nice video man.. thats cool you can fix that shit

  • hmm not too many vids on game gear repair i finally got my hands on one and it wont power on..nothing to do but to strip it down and try to fix the bastard

  • Great job! My game gear has no sound anymore. I think one of the caps are bad on it.

  • I really need to do this

  • nice fix bro :)

  • Yeah, I've been meaning to do this for over a month (or longer) now, but never did until now.

  • Nice vid medaka, you did a good job on replacing those. Looks much better! :-)

  • Thanks. I had this Game Gear like this for so long that I almost started thinking it was supposed to look that bad :) hehe

  • You get amazing results with your repair vids. Much respect to you. Always a pleasure to watch. 5 stars.

  • Thanks. I was kinda amazed at how much it improved to lol Especially the actual in-game part where it was really bad.

  • game gear lol those wer the days dude

  • Nice job.

  • Thanks man.

  • I have to do this on both my game gears and to their sound boards lol. Poor things but what can you expect for free! Got them from a friend who thought they were a lost hope. Told him i could fix them and he just gave the entire pile to me including games lol.

  • Nice stuff! Get to it!

  • very impressive. i suppose i'm lucky in the fact that the screen on my game gear is quite reasonable atm, but it's nice to know i can always fix it when the time comes.

    excellent video!

  • You have great gaming know how. GREAT VID

  • Thanks.

  • I really wish I could do this sort of thing - I have x3 game gears and my only working one has an awful screen.... typical!! ...lol

  • You can! Just takes some practice.. I messed up a few times doing this :) don't know what I was thinking lol . Hands so shakey to, it's like playing a wii darts game and trying to hit the middle of the target every time!

  • lol - don't think its something I'd consider matey... my disability is similar to severa arthritus so fiddly things with my hands is generally a no-go... lol

They look ok on the display shelves though... lol

  • I reeeeeaaally wish my Game Gear wouldn't have dissapeared... :/

It had some horrible video problems as well, but I think I just stashed it away at the time thinking there was no hope for it,. I don't know why I didn't think of even trying to repair it back then!

  • It buried in you're room somewhere? hehe

  • man that is good. i have 2 game gears messed up. one has power trouble and the other has a screen messed up. can tap on the screen and it kinda works. will change power thing from the one with the messed up screen to the one with power messed up. should have one that works.

  • Thanks. Get it done! hehe I almost bought another broken gamegear the other day, but it was missing the battery covers, so I didn't :)
