shadows and assasins are more late game reliant then most classes, they're whole dps rotation consists of getting procs that you unlock at higher levels (35-50) to reduce force costs and increase damage. at lower levels the only thing you can really do is mash your face on the keyboard and hope you kill the guy before you run out of force which happens like 20% of the time..

Ok the problem i have with the shadow is that i drain my force so quickly by the time i get 2 shadow strikes on my oppenent. i have to wait 5 to 10 secounds and he's just draining my health while i wait! i find the sentinel a much more enjoyable class.

Assassin is weaker than the other stealth class (Scoundrel / Operative) since it has less burst, no healing, no stun from stealth, slower regen, shadow strike has a cost and less mitigation without sacrificing damage by using defensive technique. They are not similar in any way bar stealth and a positional attack.

@stratmaster8 Shadow/Assassin burst is the best MDPS in the game. Sentinel/Marauder has excellent burst damage and high sustained DPS because there is no Energy mechanic.

@rcmusiccovers There is most certainly different names, looks, etc. Each of the mirrored classes share a lot of abilities (for example one of the rock throw abilities that is core for jedi consular is the same dmg as a quick ranged lightning bolt from a sith inquisitor). But they all have a few unique ones.

In contrast to the previous "failed" MMOs, this one and others to come out soon will benefit greatly from that. All of a sudden, there's a lot more room in the MMO market.

Yeah Im trying to nail down my main for live and still not sure. I like the sorc/ sages but there basically 100% ranged. I wanted more a mix of melee/ range so I was looking at a rage/ focus spec knight/ warrior or maybe finding a decent dps build not dependant on stealth from the sin/shadow. They would still have access to all the consular ranged skills and have solid melee.

@rhufnagel I was faced with a conundrum when covering Shadow.

Two of the trees (Kinetic and Infiltration) have some similar mechanics and are melee-based. Balance tree is a different ball of wax entirely.

So I made the video specifically on Infiltration.

Balance is probably less positionally dependent, for the reasons you stated. Although any MDPS will be better served and effective to the extent you can get at your opponent's backside consistenty.

DoT = Damage Over Time - this is an effect which deal damage over an extended period instead of at once

Proc = this is an effect that has a chance of happening ("proc'ing") to provide some benefit to the player. E.g. there are DoTs that have a chance to proc when you shoot an opponent with an assault canon

Nice video. Shadows seems to be more powerful at melee than sentinels, especially in terms of burst damage. I played a shadow to 16 in beta, and they were just extreme as well you could take alot of damage i felt.

Granted you were only level 15 at the time. At higher levels, Clairvoyant Strike x2 followed by Project begins to outweigh Shadow Strike. SS still hits like a truck, but the force cost on it is almost crippling

Spamming Shadow Strike is a good way to lose just about all of your force. A decent way to do damage (although Double Strike/project is easier on your force, does about the same damage, and allows you to have the resources to do other things besides spamming Backstab. ))

DS and Project do *not* do about the same damage as SS though.

Obviously you want to be careful with managing Force, but SS crits hard, and as the old adage goes:

Burst damage kills, steady damage is easily healed through

@taugrimtaugrim The damage is comparable when specced (just as Shadow Strike's damage also goes up quite a bit as you grab more points) and while burst damage has it's place, so does CC, knockbacks, and other forms of control.

And, remember that it isn't simply Steady Damage; project procs can hit quite hard in their own right, Even if you're Infiltration, at higher levels project will start doing quite a bit of damage from Clairvoyant Strike, and deep impact. (out of space)

@Arajerk And to be completely fair, Shadow Strike as it's own fair share of buffs, but as you go up in levels you gain new abilities and competition will get a lot stiffer. The video is from a low level perspective of course. And, who knows, maybe Shadow Strike will end up being the best way to play; the force cost just seems -too- restrictive.

Whichever ends up being right, I'm sure you'll put out another excellent video if you decide to level up the class again
