By the way for those not in the know, these carriages were sitting at a red light when this car drove into the back of the last one and pushed it clear across a three lane street and into the fence (taking out a fire hydrant in the process).

I don't understand how it could happen... but i guess people drive to fast though it's horses and by the time the drivers se them it's to late to stop. I'm just glad the horses are okay and I hope the cardrivers have to pay a lot for what they did :D

I've seen some of these carriage horses in Philly and they are usually in a poor state =/ horses as large as those shouldn't have hip bones sticking out!

People should watch where they are going honestly all it takes is for one distracted driver and next thing you know there is a broken horse carriage in front of your car because you were being reckless and stupid. People should learn from these sorts of accidents.

this is so sick. I wonder when they will take these carriages off the roads there. We were in Philly  two years ago and I couldn't believe the traffic in the historic area...just as bad as NYC, we were on a walking tour of the outdoors and couldn't hear a darn thing for all the racing cars and buses zooming by. I had second thoughts when seeing the carriage horses there and their safety!

Last I checked, my tax dollars are suppose to keep you people safe too regardless if your bike doesn't have an air bag and if it did it, I think i would rather sustain injuries that my insurance can cover over freak accident.
