man i am a fan of portnoy, dont get me wrong, but i mean doesn't he seem in this video a slight bit full of himself? portnoy could so survive without double bass unlike most other metal drummers, he rarely only uses double bass unless its for a stagger or just constant 16th notes. Listen to the Dance of Eternity, its physically the most challenging song of all time.

@ShittyMcPoopyBalls He really uses double bass in Black Clouds though but i so agree, the hardest thing for me on Dance though is the hi-high ghost snare crossovers he does.

If Portnoy didn't have a second bass drum or double pedal – he'd be in trouble! He's a good drummer, but their are so many other drummers much more versatile and better than him, and people think he's a god. Yes, I know I'm not a professional musician, but I've been play drums for nearly 20 years. Portnoy has been doing the same thing over and over. Bozzio at least is trying to do is different.

@mtalley1 For some reason Portnoy was elected Best Progressive Drumer for about 9 years consecutive, that is about half his career he's been at the top of prog drummers, and everyone is so fond about Mangini and those other technical guys but yet the one who wrote the fantastic drum parts of DT is Mike Portnoy, he was a pioneer and still is, Prog Metal is influenced all around him

@mtalley1 He doesnt use it that often+plus he has a LOT of sideprojects going from A7X to a coverband that plays the beatles and stuff. You can't call him not versatile. Also the sound of DT has evolved throughout the years, you can't say he isn't versatile. Portnoy is good at just about any genre. Checkout some of his covers with his cover band etc.

Bozzio pisses me off, he's not that good of a drummer and he basically abuses his endorsements, getting 100 piece custom drum sets....signature drum heads....and now he thinks hes some sort of musical guru. Portnoy kills all.
