My first MMO was ff14. Played 4 10 months. If you like OCD button spamming grind festivals play it. If you like amazing stories dont buy it the story sux. this game seemed to be a stripped down version of a solo game with no story content (thats why i play ff for the story) and the only attractions to play is to chat/quest with friends. You can not connect to this game story wise its all about making virtual friends, statistical analysis, and talking about how the game is going to get better.
Alot is being added in 2.0. Most people asking you this are not gonna like it if they expect wow clone which is not really a mmo. But with patch 1.21 this week and 2.0 coming this year it will be the game we wanted. More like ffxi but with better graphics. I started back cuz I miss FFxi. But I play rift for my raiding and friends. FFxiv is fun to me now. Just don't expect wow or swtor game play.

I think it's far too early to speak that way about 2.0. There's also a lot of positive points about playing now you didn't mention.
There's a great storyline, an evolving plot that won't be available to people who start with 2.0, and a chance to get a lot of limited items (such as the Goobbue mount) that won't be available later. The game is cheap and the sub is only $8/month if you pay in a block. If anything it means you'll have a copy and won't have to buy the retail release of 2.0.
I miss the day when FFXI just got released, the game was SUPER fun! Every town is pack with active players! many fisherman fishing and the craft guild is pack with participants. Now, you are mostly on your own... I came to a realization that being alone is not so fun when I revisit FFXI for the 4th time, and so no more MMOR for me!
you did a gj on this, I used to play FFXI online and got the jist of the MMOR. I also played WoW and had fun with it. FFXIV might just be another combo of the two or so... FFXI have so many expansion and patch that it gives player so much freedom on what to do in that world, however due to lack of ppl, game sorts of died.
I was gonna give this a shot to play when I'm bored with SWTOR, but after watching this video I have to say you pretty much answered all my questions and there's no way I'm touching it until MAYBE after 2.0 and some reviews and a free trial. thanks for this video!
ffxi was crap when it first came out also, but turned out to be a awesome game after zilart. I'm sure the people who loved ffxi will come back or already are. In a week they introduce the classic ff jobs like mnk pld war whm drg. and they will be introducing patches like this through out the year until 2.0 release.
I personally think your right about what you say, the game at the moment is lacking a lot of regular content like other mmorpgs but it seems to be improving and will get there eventually
They seem to be just turning 14 into how 11 used to be, but with upgrades. I am looking forward to it. I won't be coming back till 2.0 though. lol

Yeah, it's just like RagnaröK Online, we used to love it, then we moved into new MMO, and when we look back, the only thing fun about it was playing with our friends, the game itself was not very fun. Now we play Monster Hunter and Vindictus, because of the gameplay.
Squeenix could make a MMO with action controls, with a gameplay similar to Kingdom Hearts or Lord of Arcana, maybe with Ivalice as the setting ... nah, we can only dream ...

U can make MMO with action controls, but look at Age of Conan, failt. So the most ppl like games like wow, stay at boss and push allways the same 3 Buttons.

I never liked the WOE, too much competition, like, gamers here were either n00bs or OVERGamers-no-fun-guys, so it was not fun ... but I liked the looks of the game and really loved the BGM, but the point n click stats centric gameplay just doens't work for me anymore, that's why I like Monster Hunter, even with all the stats and rpg elements, the keys to victory are skill, knowledge and teamwork.
But I wouldn't mind a new RagnaröK with action controls 8D
@devoiddude It's not a patch per-se, its the game's re-release. Essentially it has most of the features and content that this game *should* have had at release. The game as it stands right now is essentially in very early beta. The game as it was when it was released was a game that couldn't be considered anything outside of alpha.
I'm glad I stopped playing the game before p2p earlier this month, I stopped when the new year's event item came out so i can get that new kabuto helmet... lol, I don't think I'll be going back to this game for a while, plus I think almost half the population is down due to p2p and people losing interest in the game... such as myself, lol. So yeah, there's really nothing to do at all, which i'll wait for ffxiv 2.0 to come out... which won't be until the end of the year or next year :(
2.0 isn't going to really introduce anything? What? Mounted combat The addition of summoners/beastmasters A complete overhaul of the game engine as well as the user interface. New storyline content along with the addition of voices. Hamlet defense New dungeons and player housing DRAGONS! Two new PvP options (PvP options in general.) Complete area re-designs. You're right about some of the stuff getting fixed rather than building upon content, but there certainly are new additions.
The answer is no. No way in hell, if anything wait for the new WoW expansion (the one with the pandas XDD) and such. Then play that. Don't play Final Fantasy.
Nah final fantasy fun game but I think developers got lazy and let fanbase carry the game regardless of what they do. Games alright looking but saw games that looked better 5-6 yrs ago so its nothing special semi cool particle affects. But the player base is really really to hardcore. THE BIGGEST thing is the flow while its semi ok some parts take a while and regardless of how long you play they never feel right. While games should have learning curve the controls should feel instinctive.

It was hard finding videos about FFXIV letalone from someone who's actually playing it. I decided to buy it, and honestly I'm having fun with it. FFXI was my first MMO, and honestly, since I stopped playing after WOTG's release, no other game has kept me longer than a couple months. FFXIV is a nice break from the WoW-cloneesque type games that keep surfacing, and though it's not fantastic, it's very nostalgic playing an FF series again. I just hope 2.0 can salvage the FF MMORPG series.
I´ll take your word for it and just not buy it. Maybe in future if things get better and I can buy a new computer and such... then maybe I will buy the game. For now I can resist the temptation. Thanks for these quick reviews and your opinion veronica, keep them coming.
@BrokenShadows Eve online is not a bad game, if you like sci-fi/spaceships and want to try something different from the wow type games. Eve is diffidently not for everyone, but you get 3 weeks free trial to see if you like it or not, after that it's standard monthly subscription fee, but playing for free and paying the subscription with in-game currency is an option.
I'd say wait for 2.0 in order to get in with an influx of new players. Thanks to the PL, a large portion of the players have all classes to 50 making it difficult to find parties for new players.
I tried end game at level 90 and wasnt fun at all... talknig about ffxi. have to get diffrent colors on bosses before u have to kill it.. it was weird
@MiguelCrespo85 I agree. I don't like the new mechanics. I also hate how they ruined my class (BST) as there is no charming anymore. Say what you want about the new jugs being awesome (cause they are), but call me crazy, I liked charming wild pets and I didn't spend millions on an awesome charm set for them to make it obsolete.
Of course, I will be the first to say that the game started out like crap. I was so disappointed. But, they are working on it as they said they would. Like I said, it is difficult to not respect a game company that actually listened to their players and keep their words. Just saying. I also played ff11 for 3 years when they started. 11 you grinded a lot, as well.
I have quite a bit to say, however, all I will say is that believe in what the production team is doing. Playing now may not be prominent, true, but try 2.0 when it gets here. What we have been told about 2.0 is not all that we know. Not trolling or anything. I just believe in the production team. Remember, they could have always left it as crappy as when it started, but so far, they are keeping their word at making the game better. One has to respect when a video game company actually listens.
Yes I go into the search interface and add a comment / put myself seeking group.. I'm stuck on Palamecia.. it's the worst server on the game.. I added a second character just to see the other servers and Fabul / Kashaun (supposedly the least populated) had 280 and 300 players respectively.. come to find out Palamecia had 160 at the same time. You said in this video at level 20 you can group with people.. Not on Palamecia.. I can't delete my character and reroll because he has a 50Im just screwed
@Bulwarkzdowncazt Figaro has at least 600 people that were on early early in the morning central time. like 9:00 a.m. There are LS' that will PL you which would help you get off of square one quickly. It works like this. You get a group, The high level character aggroes everything, then he gets oust'd /pcmd oust First Last macros can be made, they kill, and everyone but the ousted player gets exp. Not recomended for n00bs but good if you decide to start over again.
I'll skip it, with TOR to play, Tera, B&S, and GW2 on the way, there is really no reason for me to bother. Maybe I'll check out 2.0, your logic is what I would use to those unsure about TOR at the moment as the game is in need of some major improvements, especially end game.

Anyway yeah I hit my first 50. I had to solo to it because current player base are all desperate fucks holding on to their 50-across-the-board accounts. The community is the worst part of the game, they're arrogant and miserable about themselves. I haven't been able to play end game because I can't get a group. Some fuck wouldnt let me in his party n said 5 THM and 2 CNJ we're mandatory to run Zahar'ak - I solo'd it at 49.
@Bulwarkzdowncazt ah the stronghold? i never have seen people deny others for that stronghold NM but my group had to take 2 pts to make it easy. when it comes to lvling, it should get easier once they allow level sync but for now it kinda sucks. i hardly see low lvl group shouting, do you use the party search feature?
@VEGITAS4 SWTOR might as well be StarWarcraft. Everything I've heard it's just a clone of WoW. With Guild Wars 2, even though I bought all the versions for the first one it just didn't keep my attention. It's basically a PVP based Diablo clone without getting the formula quite right. It feels to generic when i play it
FFXIV actually feels like it's own thing has it's own charms, and they're overhauling the entire game. Every patch the giant meteor gets bigger until the sweeping change comes.
@makaisenki My first MMO was FFXI, although i loved that game, the whole wait for a party and depending on that to level up your character got really old. I played WoW for 3 days and i just could'nt get into it. Comunity sucked, and shitty looking cartoony graphics.
I see similarities between WoW and SWTOR in the combat system, but thats it. Everything else is great, especially the class stories. in FF11 and WoW i could'nt care less about story, but in SWTOR, it actually matters.

I've been able to LFP with ease just shouting in Uldah. I have yet gotten a 50, but I didn't experience this game as a solo one, nor do I have any RL friends playing with me.
I was able to join a very helpful, casual progression ls within a week of play and everyone I have met and partied with are kind, courteous and helpful to new players such as myself.
imho, FF14 players are not elitists like in other MMOs
Not to even mention how much of a blast it is to successfully party with Japanese, Germans, and French players... that's an experience not too many MMO's offer so openly.
@Bulwarkzdowncazt I'd hope you'd be able to solo it at that level. He probably just wanted extremely fast exp, in which case that would be mandatory. I wouldn't have turned you down, but if I did there's no reason you should cry about it. Pugging Moggle/Ifrit's a bad idea anyways. Find a LS, but even in a LS Ifrit for some reason wipe's groups.

Was wondering about this myself. I gotta admit, I still get goosebumps when I head the opening theme start up still. Honestly, Id only recommend this to die hard FF fans. The last time I played, It still felt very unpolished. It's disappointing to hear that we'll have to wait a whole extra year to see what the "normal" version of FF14 will be like.

i decided i'll give 14 a try :)! when ff11 first came out it was a really strange game but over the years it improved tremendously and now its in rapid decline( haven't played it since 75 cap and pre abyssea just by observation). @NewbVeronica yeah...personally I like FFXI but now that the cap is 99 I just feel like...ugh leveling to 99 is easy but there is no reason for me to be 99 because gear and level don't matter much for dealing with any monsters that are available to fight in the game anyway. I've gotten all storyline covered so I'm done with it unless they have more expansions or it actually comes out for the PS Vita in which case it's a portable MMO sooo why not...

In order to form a fair opinion of something one must try it should you not? Skyrim is a great game, it has flaws of course but far better than any FF game new or old, same with oblivion, risen, Breath of Fire III. All superior stories.

I used to play FFXIV on Lindblum under the name 'Cuddlebunny Snugglekiss'. I stopped playing about 7 months ago. I haven't kept up with the forums and news. My question is will 2.0 wipe the previous characters and their levels or will they transfer over?
@Madcowfighter Everything will be transferred over, but there will be a new graphics engine and they'll be filling in the missing genders for some races so everyone will be able to alter their character as a one-off.
It's good to see honest people like Veronica still on youtube who can also be objective and see things from other peoples perspectives while putting her excitement for something to the side. A lot of people probably would have caved into their fanboy/fangirlishness and said yes it's the best game ever.

I played Eve Online for a few months and I did like it but eventually got tired from being alone in it while my friends only played WoW.
Last MMO I tried (not much, only couple hours) was the beta for Star Wars The Old Replubic, and it was good but I don't feel it's worth my time and money.
I don't plan on playing any MMO anytime soon, except if it's really good and free.
The only games I'll certainly buy are Diablo 3 and Heart of the Swarm.
@banido Well a "free" one coming up is gw2 you just buy the game and you have no subscription fee, another few MMOs that are coming out are Tera and Blade and Soul, both look good but I'm pretty sure both have a subscription fee.
It's a shame there is no free trial for for FF XIV, i would like to try it while i wait for the release of GW2 or D3, but i really don't feel like paying 20$ just to try the game.
i just canceled my xiv sub this week, great storyline and graphics, I plan on trying after 2.0 but i'm not sure i'd find time with tera, and gw2 coming out, think i might go back to xi for now

i knew after i purchased CE and installed the game on a new comp that i couldnt go wrong with a ffxiv game
then i began playing.
the game sucked shit, 0 content = 0 game value.

Yeah, it's just like RagnaröK Online, we used to love it, then we moved into new MMO, and when we look back, the only thing fun about it was playing with our friends, the game itself was not very fun. Now we play Monster Hunter and Vindictus, because of the gameplay.
Squeenix could make a MMO with action controls, with a gameplay similar to Kingdom Hearts or Lord of Arcana, maybe with Ivalice as the setting ... nah, we can only dream ...

I never liked the WOE, too much competition, like, gamers here were either n00bs or OVERGamers-no-fun-guys, so it was not fun ... but I liked the looks of the game and really loved the BGM, but the point n click stats centric gameplay just doens't work for me anymore, that's why I like Monster Hunter, even with all the stats and rpg elements, the keys to victory are skill, knowledge and teamwork.
But I wouldn't mind a new RagnaröK with action controls 8D

@devoiddude It's not a patch per-se, its the game's re-release. Essentially it has most of the features and content that this game *should* have had at release. The game as it stands right now is essentially in very early beta. The game as it was when it was released was a game that couldn't be considered anything outside of alpha.

I'm glad I stopped playing the game before p2p earlier this month, I stopped when the new year's event item came out so i can get that new kabuto helmet... lol, I don't think I'll be going back to this game for a while, plus I think almost half the population is down due to p2p and people losing interest in the game... such as myself, lol. So yeah, there's really nothing to do at all, which i'll wait for ffxiv 2.0 to come out... which won't be until the end of the year or next year :(

Nah final fantasy fun game but I think developers got lazy and let fanbase carry the game regardless of what they do. Games alright looking but saw games that looked better 5-6 yrs ago so its nothing special semi cool particle affects. But the player base is really really to hardcore. THE BIGGEST thing is the flow while its semi ok some parts take a while and regardless of how long you play they never feel right. While games should have learning curve the controls should feel instinctive.

It was hard finding videos about FFXIV letalone from someone who's actually playing it. I decided to buy it, and honestly I'm having fun with it. FFXI was my first MMO, and honestly, since I stopped playing after WOTG's release, no other game has kept me longer than a couple months. FFXIV is a nice break from the WoW-cloneesque type games that keep surfacing, and though it's not fantastic, it's very nostalgic playing an FF series again. I just hope 2.0 can salvage the FF MMORPG series.

@BrokenShadows Eve online is not a bad game, if you like sci-fi/spaceships and want to try something different from the wow type games. Eve is diffidently not for everyone, but you get 3 weeks free trial to see if you like it or not, after that it's standard monthly subscription fee, but playing for free and paying the subscription with in-game currency is an option.

Like I said, it is difficult to not respect a game company that actually listened to their players and keep their words. Just saying. I have quite a bit to say, however, all I will say is that believe in what the production team is doing. Playing now may not be prominent, true, but try 2.0 when it gets here. What we have been told about 2.0 is not all that we know. Not trolling or anything. I just believe in the production team. Remember, they could have always left it as crappy as when it started, but so far, they are keeping their word at making the game better. One has to respect when a video game company actually listens.

Yes I go into the search interface and add a comment / put myself seeking group.. I'm stuck on Palamecia.. it's the worst server on the game.. I added a second character just to see the other servers and Fabul / Kashaun (supposedly the least populated) had 280 and 300 players respectively.. come to find out Palamecia had 160 at the same time. You said in this video at level 20 you can group with people.. Not on Palamecia.. I can't delete my character and reroll because he has a 50Im just screwed

@Bulwarkzdowncazt Figaro has at least 600 people that were on early early in the morning central time. like 9:00 a.m. There are LS' that will PL you which would help you get off of square one quickly. It works like this. You get a group, The high level character aggroes everything, then he gets oust'd /pcmd oust First Last macros can be made, they kill, and everyone but the ousted player gets exp. Not recomended for n00bs but good if you decide to start over again.

Anyway yeah I hit my first 50. I had to solo to it because current player base are all desperate fucks holding on to their 50-across-the-board accounts. The community is the worst part of the game, they're arrogant and miserable about themselves. I haven't been able to play end game because I can't get a group. Some fuck wouldnt let me in his party n said 5 THM and 2 CNJ we're mandatory to run Zahar'ak - I solo'd it at 49.

@VEGITAS4 SWTOR might as well be StarWarcraft. Everything I've heard it's just a clone of WoW. With Guild Wars 2, even though I bought all the versions for the first one it just didn't keep my attention. It's basically a PVP based Diablo clone without getting the formula quite right. It feels to generic when i play it
FFXIV actually feels like it's own thing has it's own charms, and they're overhauling the entire game. Every patch the giant meteor gets bigger until the sweeping change comes.

@makaisenki My first MMO was FFXI, although i loved that game, the whole wait for a party and depending on that to level up your character got really old. I played WoW for 3 days and i just could'nt get into it. Comunity sucked, and shitty looking cartoony graphics.
I see similarities between WoW and SWTOR in the combat system, but thats it. Everything else is great, especially the class stories. in FF11 and WoW i could'nt care less about story, but in SWTOR, it actually matters.

I've been able to LFP with ease just shouting in Uldah. I have yet gotten a 50, but I didn't experience this game as a solo one, nor do I have any RL friends playing with me.
I was able to join a very helpful, casual progression ls within a week of play and everyone I have met and partied with are kind, courteous and helpful to new players such as myself.
imho, FF14 players are not elitists like in other MMOs

I wouldn't have turned you down, but if I did there's no reason you should cry about it. Pugging Moggle/Ifrit's a bad idea anyways. Find a LS, but even in a LS Ifrit for some reason wipe's groups.

i decided i'll give 14 a try :)! when ff11 first came out it was a really strange game but over the years it improved tremendously and now its in rapid decline( haven't played it since 75 cap and pre abyssea just by observation). I've gotten all storyline covered so I'm done with it unless they have more expansions or it actually comes out for the PS Vita in which case it's a portable MMO sooo why not...

I agree that people should wait if they're not sure, BUT if they are planning to play 2.0 I would recommend buying it now since you can find it dirtcheap and because all FFXIV owners will get to update their game to 2.0 for free. My friends only play WoW...and I hate that game.
I played Eve Online for a few months and I did like it but eventually got tired from being alone in it while my friends only played WoW.
Last MMO I tried (not much, only couple hours) was the beta for Star Wars The Old Replubic, and it was good but I don't feel it's worth my time and money.
I don't plan on playing any MMO anytime soon, except if it's really good and free.
The only games I'll certainly buy are Diablo 3 and Heart of the Swarm.
