I always preferred Zep, The Who, Deep Purple and The Beatles to the Stones. Keith was always a bit too wobbly for me. Charlie Watts had the most talent & diversity.
drugs aren't for everybody. I saw someone going insane from smoking a joint. Little detail: the guy was already mental and had to take several pills a day to stay relatively normal. I didn't know.
I just finished reading about him on a few websites. I don't remember him at all. I had heard the 'cockroaches and Keith' thing but not who it was originally attributed to. But as for the rising from the ashes lighting a Marlboro bit, I came up with that off the top of my head one time posting somewhere a few years ago, may have even been a different Keith youtube video.
The whole idea of surviving herion addiction is to realize you'll never get the rush like the first time Most common causes of overdose is trying to match the first rush by doing more I lived a life time (it seems) of addiction to synthectic heroin There was not much enjoyment after so long a time of using mostly just eased the physical sickness of the addiction Finally I decided to stop It was like two weeks of walking thru hell on sunday
I think Keith would be the first to admit the heroin is not to be messed with, ask Shane MacGowan, David Gahan, Stephen Tyler or Jimmy Page. That is some powerfully addictive stuff.
@Cilian12 *starts shovelling down all the drugs i can* so when do i become an uber awesome, badass guitarist with years of success, massive amounts of money and all the fun i could ever ask for? And when the hell does Johnny Depp become my adopted son????
It's the aftermath of a global nuclear holocaust...all life forms on the planet have been obliterated...but wait a second, there's a figure rising from the ashes...it's lighting up a Marlboro....IT'S KEITH!
@QuasiMolko Is he by chance the guy who said: 'there are two things that would survive a nuclear holocaust: cockroaches and Keith Richards' or something like that?
He was a standup comedian, considered by most in the profession to be the best there ever was.
He did a few pieces about Keith including what is in your comment almost word-for-word (Though I believe he said rubble, not ashes) right down to lighting up the Marlboro and ending with "It's Keith".
I had a quick look on here to see if anybody had uploaded it so I could show you but that particular one isn't up.. There are a few others though.
I used to work with a guy who says he met Keith Richards once. This may or may not be true, but he had no reason to lie to me. He said Keith was a really funny guy, and one of the nicest people he has ever met.
Way to wreck your shot at a perfect life loser. He gave up on learning more about his instrument 30 years ago to get high. Mick Jagger held it together and even watched his money for him, otherwise he'd be on the street. Have another cigarette and a swig of Bourbon for breakfast Keith.
@mistertorontoguy hey fuck you little prick, this guy helped revolutionize the way blues is played, and he also made music for your pathetic selves ears to listen to. fuck you. and it seems as if hes making millions and living a life of luxury thats entirely paid for, so yeah keith have another cigarette and a swig for breakfast, because you get to do that while low lifes like this complain about it and the things the dont have. hey hows that trailer park goin for ya? yeah bitch.
@switchlightskate fuck keith richards. hes nothing special, brian jones was the only member of the stones who's playing merits the word "revolutionary"
Wow. Not TOO bitter, are we? Given, Richards has abused his body and is old beyond his years, but he is a very respected musician and well-liked person. He can live his life as he pleases, because he has earned his way. But I can't say he's "wrecked," or a "loser." Though he IS worse for the wear.
im ony 27 but find the man a huge inspiration.. he dosent make me want to go and do drugs, we choose that our-selves. People need to stop blaming musicians/movies/music etc and take responsibility for there own actions. Hes a level headed guy with an amazing amount of life experience under his belt.. if you want to live a sheltered life and are really that worried about what your gonna look like when your in your 70's then good for you
So what if he looks ugly from taking drugs the fact that he's still alive is a miracle. Keith is fucking awesome! Great guitarist and a great man long live Keith Richards
I'm surprised. He seems very level-headed. The worst part of doing drugs isn't the drugs, it's the act of obtaining the drugs. Some are physically harmful, like meth, cocaine, and some of the designer drugs. Pot, herion, and many of the more popular ones, only seem to kill poor people. That's because they resort to desparate acts to get money to buy them. if you can afford drugs, and still lead a healthy lifestyle, chances are, you can live as long as the next guy.
Like Clapton, Page & many others Keith Richards is a survivor. Not only that, he's nearly 70 & still rocking on. Still got the swagger. Luck may have a lot to do with it, but still, he must be pretty tough.

Addiction IS NOT a disease, it is a symptom of a larger socio-economic problem. Legalization is THE ONLY WAY to tackle addiction as a whole. You CAN heal addiction and leave it in the dust for good, HouseOfWakingSpirits will show you how - it's free information for the good of everyone.
i alway's thought that there were a certain group of personalities of interveiwers who for whatever reason seemed to send keith to a certain mental plane or place that produced a better interveiw session and anthony decurtis was one of those people . i alway's percieved keith as having a rather genuinely posh or elegant side to his personallity and accent , sometimes more than others depending on his mood or perhaps when he's most at ease with an interveiwer such as anthony perhaps ?
We have invented a new drug in our basement lab. Send Richard right over before we have to test it on the Rottweiler and send it over to find Richard. Or else we send Rover right over to find that Keith Richards MOFOver.
@hoplite46 the stones esp. Keef were always middle class Londoners and put on east ender cockney accents. The Beatles actually were scousers from a gritty, poor Liverpool background.Keef reads heaps of books and has a big library of world history volumes.
@taariqtaariq to truly be a good musician you have to be intelligent anyway so I,m not suprised. Freddie Mercury was a choreographer and Brian May has a degree in astronomy
@hoplite46 every member of pink floyd studied @ top-tier academies. and are (for me anyway) the greatest, deepest, most self-expressive band that ever made it huge. i saw em in 84' and ever since i've been going to music festivals (electronic, classic, jam, hippy, etc) and raves for the past 2 decades trying to find that cosmic moment of zen once again
i've accepted that it will never happen, but its just human nature to believe, and want to find that which was so sublime once more. right?
@taariqtaariq what is your point? All The Stones are from London. Not middle class. And what's wrong with reading books and 'being middle class'and owning some books anyway? The Beatles weren't any more credible or Philistine;would have been insulted by your inference.
C´mon: The Stones WERE mostly a pretty lousy band after 1971, don´t deny it ! Keith was numbing his awareness of what was happening during the next 25 years with too much of anything. The New York Dolls, Johnny Thunder´s Heartbreakers & the Flamin Groovies (among others) were much more creative within the formula than the Stones themselves, though Johnny Thunders also got into self-indulgent heroin abuse. The Stones are mostly living from their own 60s myth, quite an achievement !
@MrSKINFLICK The fact they are still packing houses disproves what you are saying. It's very difficult to keep on when the times change out from underneath you. But, heck, I know you're wrong because I heard a live version of 'Mannish Boy' on the B stage in Ft Lauderdale in 2002 that literally made me cringe with blues catharsis. You'll find me a tough crewman of Capt Keith's signed on to his ship forever I'm afraid mate...
@Exiles800:I didn´t want to diss the Stones,it was just my own OPINION.I rate them very highly in the 60s period+i would not doubt that they were still able to play great r&b+even blues on stage later,no worry.I respect the Stones on a certain level, but they could have made more of themselves after 1971/1972.Maybe it was even their"intention"after this period,to lean back+let the other bands go, dunno.I found"Undercover Of The Night" in the 80s pretty exciting+wished they´d done more like this!
I suppose, but on the other hand there's a sort of velveted rock n roll grace the Stones have been trying to play to that conventional rock confines with its limitations. I feel frustrated because there's a intelligent form Mick has been writing into lyrics and Keith to music that flies right over some people's heads. In the end the Stones have been playing to that magic Stones world embodied in their stage props and settings and managing to fill it pretty well IMO. I've never been bored...
@PAULLONDEN:VERY TRUE.Keith acts as if the 60s(in HIS sense)were still there. But they aren´t.At least not Keith´s 60s.Their downfall was a "song" like"Angie",some even listened to"Miss You"(ha ha ha) or"Emotional Rescue"(even more ha ha ha)-while the rest of the music biz was in heavier revolution than in the 60s.Some thought the Stones would finally wake up with"Undercover Of The Night"(1984),but it was a Fata Morgana, had Keith been sober for a moment or just re-sampled his own best 60s riffs?
It`s like my brother always said "Keith Richards died 30 years ago, just nobody told him yet, If you walked up to him and said 'what the hell you doing here? You died 30 years ago!' he`d fall over dead" Fact: when the world ends the only survivor will be Keith Richards. And as said in Wayne`s World: "This could explain why Keith can`t be killed by conventional weapons"
Keith Richards will be 68 in December and I agree, he must have COPD. It's all he can do to finish a sentence, yet he still smokes like there's no tomorrow. If he lives another 5 years I'll be shocked. He's an extremely talented man, both as a guitarist and a songwriter, and has achieved unbelievable success. I can't help but admire his skill and I love the Stones.
Keith has COPD, listen to the man breath... For the life of me I can't figure out how this man is still living. Guess Rock n' Roll keeps him alive because according to all known medical science he should have taken a dirt nap about 30 years ago!!

You´re right, too - but i guess it never went that far, that Mick wanted to have submission sex with Keith, or ?
MrSKINFLICK 3 months ago
i alway's thought that there were a certain group of personalities of interveiwers who for whatever reason seemed to send keith to a certain mental plane or place that produced a better interveiw session and anthony decurtis was one of those people . i alway's percieved keith as having a rather genuinely posh or elegant side to his personallity and accent , sometimes more than others depending on his mood or perhaps when he's most at ease with an interveiwer such as anthony perhaps ?

We have invented a new drug in our basement lab. Send Richard right over before we have to test it on the Rottweiler and send it over to find Richard. Or else we send Rover right over to find that Keith Richards MOFOver.

since when did keith get a posh accent It must be the money
hoplite46 3 months ago
@hoplite46 the stones esp. Keef were always middle class Londoners and put on east ender cockney accents. The Beatles actually were scousers from a gritty, poor Liverpool background.Keef reads heaps of books and has a big library of world history volumes.
taariqtaariq 3 months ago
@taariqtaariq to truly be a good musician you have to be intelligent anyway so I,m not suprised. Freddie Mercury was a choreographer and Brian May has a degree in astronomy
hoplite46 3 months ago
@hoplite46 every member of pink floyd studied @ top-tier academies. and are (for me anyway) the greatest, deepest, most self-expressive band that ever made it huge. i saw em in 84' and ever since i've been going to music festivals (electronic, classic, jam, hippy, etc) and raves for the past 2 decades trying to find that cosmic moment of zen once again
i've accepted that it will never happen, but its just human nature to believe, and want to find that which was so sublime once more. right?
:)
Jagethemage 3 months ago
@taariqtaariq what is your point? All The Stones are from London. Not middle class. And what's wrong with reading books and 'being middle class'and owning some books anyway? The Beatles weren't any more credible or Philistine;would have been insulted by your inference.

@Exiles800:
MrSKINFLICK 3 months ago
@MrSKINFLICK The fact they are still packing houses disproves what you are saying. It's very difficult to keep on when the times change out from underneath you. But, heck, I know you're wrong because I heard a live version of 'Mannish Boy' on the B stage in Ft Lauderdale in 2002 that literally made me cringe with blues catharsis. You'll find me a tough crewman of Capt Keith's signed on to his ship forever I'm afraid mate...
Exiles800 3 months ago
@Exiles800:I didn´t want to diss the Stones,it was just my own OPINION.I rate them very highly in the 60s period+i would not doubt that they were still able to play great r&b+even blues on stage later,no worry.I respect the Stones on a certain level, but they could have made more of themselves after 1971/1972.Maybe it was even their"intention"after this period,to lean back+let the other bands go, dunno.I found"Undercover Of The Night" in the 80s pretty exciting+wished they´d done more like this!
MrSKINFLICK 3 months ago
