Well, assuming that when you are talking solid state amp, you are referring to the solid state power section. In that case, I dont know if it will SOUND good to you but just know that you will get a clear analog preamp distortion but NOT a desirable power amp distortion. So if power amp distortion is a big part of your playing, it might disappoint you but otherwise, it should be just fine.
P.S. I never owned a tube amp so the above MAY be wrong. Always take your gear somewhere and test it
it should work quite well with the peavey vypyr series.the vypys have a very natural tone and they are affected quite a bit by the guitar and pickup selection unlike many other solid state amps. rofl i know im responding to 1 year old comment, but i just felt like it.
hey man It's nice that your building guitars... that's a hell of skill... man I have a question about the x2n... I wanted it but I dunno if if will sound good at cleans... I like to switch my distortion on & off so it's not a purely distorted playing... what do you think? have a nice day
b4 he ever gets back to you...and trust me he takes a while....listen, he hooked me up with the X2N as well....and its no good for clean unless u got a very quiet effect or split the coils..just the clean amp sound of the x2n...not the best for clean mate...might wanna rethink that..its a bloody hardcore pickup...i have a video of it with a quiet effect here..but thats the best bet u can get..thru a good amp, clean...wont be that good....and this guy will agree....
Hey bro. I am so sorry for the late reply I am having my A'levels now. I will soon be quicker in replying. The X2N Is really not that great for clean on its series mode but when you utilize the switching, it really helps bring out the cleans.
However, I really recommend that you try putting a low output pickup in the neck and mix the two pickups., you can get VERY good sounds that way. I am currently using the X2N and the SH-1 59b. I love the mix of the X2N in split and the seymour in parallel

@TFKofBD hi tnx for the reply... I see that the x2n is dedicated for purely metal playing... as it will distort the clean when the you apply pressure to the string such as strong strumming or picking... unfortunately I always utilized the "on & off" style... so I guess X2n doesn't fit my style... tnx a lot for the kind reply....
Ah well, not every pickup is going to fit your bill bro, thats why there are so many pickups going around. I still would recommend that you take a look at the dimarzio Evolution and the Seymour Duncan JB lines, but for you 'on and off' approach, perhaps the Gibson Dirty Fingers would be a better choice.
P.S. I have not tested any of the above pickups personally so I really am not talking tonally but scientifically using them output charts :P
@TFKofBD hahaha tnx a lot, I agree finding the right sound is really hard, for instance recently I've tried sh-8 only to find out that it has lots of bass in it, and that the consequent loss of "twang" made me realized that it was the thing that I'm looking for (BTW the vid in my page is really old and i'm using a stock pickup). oh man we just gotta keep going on I guess, and in my case, in my small way I'm hoping to rock the world LOL! tnx mate... I will update my channel with new vids :))
do you get alot of hum when you coil tap. and do you have your full humbucker on 2nd position and the coil tap on the 1st position. i have a strat and really want to put some humbuckers on it
Back to the point though. There is some hum increment when you are using a switch to control the coil tap. But if you choose to do the spin-a-split mod, there is not much hum going through.
I really recommend ANYONE who uses this pickup to use ALL its switching combinations as they really do make a noticeable difference in the tone
So I've heard from my cousin who still lives there! Fortunately for him, he can afford going to singapore every other month and getting stuff. So jealous. I actually have to work, as do you I bet.
yep, i have to work too but getting work here is easy if you've got the tech :P. I for example am a guitar tech and I make about a 100 dollars per guitar. Currently, I have 6 guitars with me awaiting repair :P
Lol yep, I have trashed this guitar now and I am now using my handmade BC rich beast design. It sounds pretty decent, If you want some sound demos, check out the vid responses
LOL that distortion currently reminds me of an angry man with sand up his vagina who is high on steroids :P. If you want a better tone of distortion, check out the vid labeled 'distortion and clean on dimarzio X2N' Its got better tone and sounds clearer.
Thanks a lot bro....well i really would recommend the X2N but as you can see....i also put a low gain picup in the neck position for the times for when i get some desire to play soft....but since you are playin in drop C....try chekin out the D activator X models...they r pretty good too judging by the reviews...its a really new pickup so i still din see any sound demos anywhere as of yet....
the d-activators are too muddy for my taste, but have a ridiculous amount of gain. the x2n's have just as much output as far as i can tell and also have a much clearer sound.
It's great sound test! Most of people don't have lot of money to buy expensive guitars and equipment. There they can see and hear how to upgrade their cheap guitars...:)
You should get the pickup selector changed to a a Ibanez JEM setting, tell your guitar tech and he might help you get a blues sound from the X2N (it is there, you just have to look for it). What is your setting 250k or 500k?
Yes, the P.A.F. Pro is great but you should go with a FRED instead (it's like the P.A.F. Pro but better with harmonics and has a good response to all strings). Or I would go with The Tone Zone, it gives you that high-output but with a fuller sound (even has great harmonics). Either get the FRED or The Tone Zone, they are the best choices for the X2N I believe. If you already have the P.A.F. Pro then you'll be okay.
hate to say this but i tried by putting 250K pots but the out come is just too much bass and mud...I advise using a 500K pot AT LEAST and if you want a more jangly and sharp tone....try the 1 megaohm pots....
Thank you very much for that video! When it's time to choose between pickups, a good demonstration like yours really help ! I could really hear the differences you noticed between the sounds and it helped me to set my mind on the X2N.
man thx for that vid. prolly one of the best sound demos ive seen.. your the reason i got my x2n pickup..and ickefes is right you not ugly man.. you should take that part out of the description
I agree with your needing to remove the self criticism. You are a human being. Not ugly or anything else negative that you think. Keep up the playing and you will improve. Best wishes.
Your video helped me choose the Di Marzio X2N over the Di Marzio Super Distortion for bridge pickup on this guitar I have in the shop. (Like a garage for guitars)
well you know what dude......even I MYSELF am not too fond of the clean sound of this thing....hence i have the SH1 :D......glad 2 c that sum1 else also loves the pure clean tone of a guitar :D
great review! plus, dont worry about what ppl say, a lot us ppl are asses over the internet. by the way, idk if you got one, but i suggest a noise suppresor, the X2N has an INSANE amount of feedback that comes with all that gain, keep on rocking!!!
Look bro i kno this thing i reall loud and all but strangely there aint as much feedback as one might expect..the seymour duncan invader pickup is one hell of a feedbacky :P pickup.....but idk y the dimarzio don have this prob..... mayb cos dimarzio has introduced the vacum wax potting technology that suppresses pickup microphonics....and in a sense bro....the feedback that actually does come out of the pickup is the sustain that occurs due to resonance which i beleive is a desirable effect
well dude its all bout personal MUSIC preference....if you want hardcore rock....dimarzio does it well (not dissin seymour duncan tho) but if you want a creamy blues tone...seymours r amazing there
The X2N sounds KICKASS! The other one is cool too, but I really like the X2N! But the Seymor Duncan SH1 DID sound really awesome when you plsyed thst solo! Good video man!
ya dude its frikkin easy......but you do need 2 have some basic soldering skills...
oh and heres an added tip.....the different sounds of the pickups (parallel, single coil, etc) sound really amazing..you might wanna try and add a DPDT to acheive em
well thnx fr some encouragment dude...i have gotten a lil betr after some practise and soon hope to post a vid usin my homemade BC rich beast (no joke)
Come on dude, give yourself a little credit. You aren't that bad and who cares what you look like if you can jam on the guitar?? No matter how good or how good looking you are, someone on You Tube is gonna slam you...comes with the territory. Ignore them and keep on jammin'
I could tell the guitar is out of tune. If not it's the intonation. Good pickups. X2N kicks ass but I still like the active Seymour Duncan Livewires better.
Yeah dude it is a very hot pickup with like 510 millivolt output and they saturate tubes very easily thus giving you that distorted sound very good fr heavy stuff
i wasnt criticizing your tone? plus if you bought that valveking you would have a pretty decent tone. but since you bought the MG half stack now you made it crappy. and why would you buy a halfstack in the first place? a 50 watt amp is more than enough to play gigs
"why did you buy new pickups in the first place when you have a solid state amp?"
then you said
"i have a marshall half stack now"
so my reply is..
why did you even get new Pups in the first place when you had a solid state amp? it would be wise to buy your amp first then try your guitar out then change pups if you want to.
THEN what kind of marshall do u have ? read my comment above!!!! MG's suck .
I WAS NOT PLAYIN SANITARIUM ANYWHERE IN THIS VID. IT MAY BE A 'SANITARIUM' SOUND ALIKE BUT THT IS NOT SANITARIUM ND 1NE AGEN FR TH ASSHOLES THT DONT READ THE VID DESCRIPTIONS. I KNO I GOT MASTER OF PUPPETS WRONG SO DNT TRY 2 RUB TH SAME OLD CRAP INTO MA FACE.
Look pal, Are you blind or just incredibly stupid huh? havent you read my description of th video. I kno I AM worse than an AMAETUR hence I stated in th description that I ahv mistakes in th SOLOS. get you fact str8 nxt tym bfore you give a dumb comment on ppls vids. I kno my vids suk donkey balls bt I tryed and if u wana post a retarded comment on ppl vids, try to read th description cos most ppl state their shortcomings!!!!!
Hey man! Nice playin,I love the X2N dist sound! But With this video I still don´t know much about the SH1,so here is a suggestion! Do another video when you explore more the duncan, specially om solos, because it´s what I am looking for!
you r good looking man

oh and heres an added tip.....the different sounds of the pickups (parallel, single coil, etc) sound really amazing..you might wanna try and add a DPDT to acheive em
cheers
TFKofBD 3 years ago
wow bud, even tho it's EXTREME output on the X2N, the clarity and noise reduction is very precise, sounds good
glassprisoner417 3 years ago
uh huh thts tru...i am makin a vid of it using a metalzone!!!! just findin a good quality can that will keep the sound good
TFKofBD 3 years ago
dude dont say ur ugly haha.
you really aren't that bad at guitar and if you keep practicing you'll probably be really good after a few years.
but about the ugly thing: ive seen really ugly guys with hot ass girls...its all about how you carry yourself.
lastly your english is fantastic for living in india! i think?

well thnx fr some encouragment dude...i have gotten a lil betr after some practise and soon hope to post a vid usin my homemade BC rich beast (no joke)

hey man i dig the metallica n all but please tune your guitar otherwise keep jamming dude
ktulujamesorion 3 years ago 2
yepo i noticed tht problem...sorry guys
TFKofBD 3 years ago
Come on dude, give yourself a little credit. You aren't that bad and who cares what you look like if you can jam on the guitar?? No matter how good or how good looking you are, someone on You Tube is gonna slam you...comes with the territory. Ignore them and keep on jammin'
danrafter 3 years ago 2
You could have explained better which pickup is where, but it was a nice example of differing sounds between pickups.
Changer01 3 years ago
I could tell the guitar is out of tune. If not it's the intonation. Good pickups. X2N kicks ass but I still like the active Seymour Duncan Livewires better.
metalheadjoel420 3 years ago 2
I swapped em and my gtrs an el cheapo NO BRANDDED hond kongee guitar :P
TFKofBD 3 years ago
Yeah dude it is a very hot pickup with like 510 millivolt output and they saturate tubes very easily thus giving you that distorted sound very good fr heavy stuff
TFKofBD 3 years ago
if u want good but extremely heavy tone go for a mesa boogie, probably a single, dual, or triple rectifier

nah nvm him he's jus too busy trying to critisize my already crappy tone.
sorry viewers for my bad gear
TFKofBD 3 years ago
i wasnt criticizing your tone? plus if you bought that valveking you would have a pretty decent tone. but since you bought the MG half stack now you made it crappy. and why would you buy a halfstack in the first place? a 50 watt amp is more than enough to play gigs
aznfirex 3 years ago
HEY WHY WOULD YOU DELETE MY COMMENT? all i was asking is what kind of marshall amp you have? because you said you have a marshall half stack.
haha i kno u deleted it because you probably have an MG! why on earth would u buy an MG half stack? ha
aznfirex 3 years ago
wtf r you tokin bout?
TFKofBD 3 years ago
dude dont play dumb
aznfirex 3 years ago
my original comment was...
MG's suck .
aznfirex 3 years ago
well youre right me do have MG.......cmon dude...........if I am using el cheapo gtr how cn you xpect me to get an xpensive amp !!
TFKofBD 3 years ago
:P.........
TFKofBD 3 years ago
well u said " i have a mashall half stack now"
pickups wont matter unless you have a decent tube amp.
btw how much was that MG? for the same price you can prolly get a valveking!!!!!
