FAMU Marching Band 2008 - Sports Illustrated Feature

Can't nobody mess with the 100, let's be real. If you know the proper history, all of the other bands black & white adopted many of famu's practices. Dr. William P. Foster, creator of "the 100" wrote the textbook, Band Pageantry, considered "The Bible" for the marching bands across this country. Winners of the coveted 'Sudler' award, the highest honor bestowed upon an intercollegiate band, the first and (still the only) historically black university band to receive the trophy. It is what it is.

Hey, all i know is that FAMU is getting coverage by sports illustrated, CNN, and so many others. Who's covering DCI bands? Oh yea, the general public doesnt care about them.

Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, etc.  don't consider themselves bands but drum corps. Maybe they should have said best college band. As always though these opinions are subjective. I FAMU is the best bandin the land IMO.

You know what? They're good players, but they'll never be as good as the Concord Blue Devils, Rockford Phantom Regiment, Blue Coats, Carolina Crown, or even DCA. The discipline is pretty spiffy, good practice times and such, but they aren't the best band in the land. There is perspective, then there's arrogance. Then there's just plain IGNORANCE. The base word in that is "Ignore", and they're ignoring DCI and it's Associates... -_- By the way, they shouldn't carry their basses like that. At all.

I found this from a link from "Do the Math" the blog of the jazz musician Ethan Iverson of the band The Bad Plus -- not a bad endorsement. Maybe someday he'll do a version of "Tusk" using these guys (and gals) as the collaborators. Or a version of "Tush" mixed with ZZ Top's "Tush" and maybe Don Byron's "Tuskegee Strutter's Ball"...

@hoodfigga92 why do they HAVE to blow? once every one starts to blow they start to sacrifice the sound FAMU is known for that rich colorful sound that sends chills down your spine.can you say the same about SU or any other SWAC band? yea they crank and they can rupture your eardrums, but to anyone that is actually a musician some of those bands make you wanna turn away from the splatty sound and shitty intonation.
