This was so hard to watch... seriously. Plant seriously just emanates that he's still got the soul he had back then with Zeppelin, and if it had been JUST Jimmy page on stage with Robert, they would have changed it up from the original version and improvised a little, most of the way through it seemed like Robert was trying to push it different ways, but it felt like his band was fighting him. I also think Jimmy page alone could have offered the intensity of the band he was playing with.
@GuitarKylePlays Plant still has the soul for this song and blues. He is not fighting the band. That is his gift. It is not hard to watch at all. If they ALL never got together and played this song live it would sound like this. I think that it is amazing. You do make a good point about Page. It would be Way more intense as it has been in the past..
@slick3xexx Yeah, I'm just saying that to me it feels like Plant is trying to reach for the same magic that he'd tapped with Zeppelin, but the band he's with isn't up to par. They're all way better musicians than me, but yeah..
He is 63 years old and still rocks HARD. If anything, I think that this version (with him older) is as good or better when than when he was younger. The band lineup is different, but in a good way. The 1970's was a very different time than 2008. I love and respect Zeppelin. Robert Plant pulls this song off now incredibly.
This is awful... I'm not gonna dislike it or anything, but personally I think led zep's version is tighter, the guitar is better, the drums are better, and Plant's singing is better.
very good, but not the same without Page and Jones backing him up, and unforunately the best drummer that ever lived cant play this with them anymore, but thankfully Bonham had a son who is a drummer and, along with Page and Jones, want to tour as Led Zeppelin
I really like this performance of this song, I though his vocals would suck, but they were great and the instruments were even more mood enhanced than the original in my opinion. Great job to the whole gang.
vocals sound really good.I was thinking maybe thats why no zep tour.I thought maybe Robert was worried he couldnt do those great songs justice.After.you have to have a great voice and great range to pull it off.He still had it as of when this was recorded. They couold still do it.but i know it will never happen
He gives a great rendition here, and as an owner of a few Led Zep bootlegs, I can say that this is the best version I have heard outside of the studio version IMO.
I love the stuff Robert did with Strange Sensation. They are a bit off center. Put their own twist on everything including the Zeppelin classics. Not in a bad way at all. This all coming from a Zeppelin purist. They didn't stray too far on this one though.
@Woody10719 It is ROBERT PLANT with Strange Sensation backing MR.PLANT so he is NOT playing it wrong as it is the way he chose to play it as well as Robert Plant accepted it that way.ROCK ON!!!!!!
For stairway to heaven, "In solo work or with other groups, Jimmy Page would not let anyone but Robert Plant sing this, but he does play it as an instrumental on occasion."
I love that this is in Serbia !!! Any country that can have access to great music like this is freer than those countries where the governments clamp down on such expression. Philadelphia Freedom indeed.
freakin great, great band-Strange Sensation-fabulous-best album in years with them-this new country/folk crap is awful!..but i love this man Robert Plant-i dont care a damn if it sounds faggy.F.U....i love this guy,his special gift of song of lilting grace, sounds that caress my ears..for years and years-all my life!..god bless Robert Plant!!
@funlover2283 That momment for me, call me a fag, but was kinda emotional. I bet he must of been thinking about John Bonham, JPJ and JP back in the good old days, back in 1969 when they were ripping it across the world. I bet you he must of been thinking about his oldest friend John Bonham, and how he use to bang those drums to this song. Robert plant looks tearful at that momment. Percy, the Zepp fans are here and ready to Led it out lol!!!
@steveolive214 I don't know if you're a troll or dumb or trying to make a joke but I'm just gonna say that "dat dude singing" is Robert Plant, the lead singer from Led Zeppelin. He wrote this song and he can perform it how he wants to. He may look homeless to you but he still has more money than you will ever see and he has more musical talent than you'll ever know.
Dulzura y fuerza en una armonía tonal perfecta. Una letra que lo hace posible , es sin lugar a dudas uno de los mejores temas escritos en el rock de los 70
There is a 2 cd disc set just called Led Zepplin. You can get it from Zepplin's or Robert official website. It has the most haunting version of this song in a small room in b/w and to watch Robert in that Black outfit Hot Damn!. I also was able to order it from Hastings. Page plays a set that you will hear throughout their career. Bonzo does his solo.It kicks ass! A must have for your listening enjoyment of the great Led Zepplin. But Robert owns the stage in the song, "Babe I'm gonna leave you"
Hey robert, come back to exit festival next year and maybe bring along.....oh i dont know maybe jimmy page, john paul jones and..uh jason bonham. no big deal, right?
His voice is just as awesome as always, but damn he is looking rough! He needs to get rid of that facial hair, he looks scary scruffy! Cool to see he's as passionate as ever, more so in fact, in his singing--better than in Song Remains the Same video concert. He gets better with age :)
@bersk8board Me too! When watching Song Remains the Same video performance (own the original video), I asked myself, if you could have one or the other, which would it be? I've always loved Plant's sexualizing of the lyrics when he songs, sounds like sex to me, so I was surprised to find myself choosing Page over Plant. Did you like Page in it Might Get Loud? He makes same facial expressions now as he did in SRTS video. :-) But here Plant gives a much more passionate performance than Page.
@bersk8board Definitely, me too. I can't take my eyes off him in SRTS concert video I have. Love that I can watch him on computer too. Wish they had a more recent concert video, equal to Pink Floyd's Pulse, do you know of any other concert videos they did after SRTS???
Its a shame that pepole grow old. You dont haveto hide your thoughts about plant. You can see he's not the same anymore but does he have to? he's what, 68 or something.
@GodammeTalfan It is a shame. I would have loved to have seen him in his prime. Much, much respect to a 60 something year old man who can get up there and still blow the doors off this song! Amazing still.
Absolutely phenomenal... his voice is still superb and his stage presence is exactly the same... modern generations are incapable of creating this level of art
@CrappyApple001 Dude if you smoked that much chronic in your life......you're gonna get some moobs. I would rather party with Robert Plant than the president. I hope when I am 60+ I am still jammin and feling this alive.
He tried so hard to distance him self from the Zeppelin thing over the years and forge his own identity and to some degree he did... but Zeppelin was so freakin epic
it will always be the biggest part of his identity IMHO.
fucking great but im so sad to watch this!!!! this was the first video i watched that wasnt led zeppelin all togehter!!!! they were fucking awesome!!!!! and im glad that they still play their music even if they arent together!!!
I SAW PLANT AND KRAUSE AT WAMU OCTOBER 2008 AND HE WAS JUST A TRUE SHINING GENIUS.He talked about "leaving his footprints" around the corner meaning of course the Seattle Kingdom in 1977!
I hate to see people saying robert plant can't sing like he used to. voice would change as one grows older. it's a matter of fact. no one sounds the same after fourty years gone by.
@elnrz Not to mention a portion of those years spent snorting, smoking, and drinking. But I totally agree with you man. I think this video is testament to the FACT that Robert Plant is STILL an absolute singing sensation. He's brilliant.
are you sure about this? i cant see it, babe, babe i am going to love you, love you when the summer comes along, love you when the summer comes along......you leave me rambeling on and on, im calling you the way i used to do, back home...its calling you, so now i am cousin it?
are you sure about this? i cant see it, babe, babe i am going to love you, love you when the summer comes along, love you when the summer comes along......you leave me rambeling on and on, im calling you the way i used to do, back home...
I find it both awesome and ironic that all of the lore and imagination that was in their songs made me think of all that old medieval stuff...and now he looks like one of the dudes that'd be a king or something.
Ever notice that Robert Plant nowadays looks like the blond King from Rohan from the Lord of the Rings movies? or is that just me? Theoden I think his name was!
@sexxyjeff oh shit ... he does... but it doesn't make him any less fuckin' dead sexy....given the choice, tho, i'd rather fuck Robert Plant than King Theoden. that's just me hahahahaha......
Around 2:57, anybody else hear Plant channeling Arthur Lee there? That "well oh well oh well oh weeeeell" sounds like somebody else...I know Plant was a huge fan of Love, but I can't place where I've heard that before. I thought it was from House is not a Motel but I didn't hear it there. It might be from Skip Spence from Moby Grape, too, but I'm pretty sure it's Lee from Love. Now this is gonna bother me...damn it...
this is cool... the thing is, when plant sang this on the studio album, that was one of the most amazing vocal performances ever... from the sound of this though, he's still got quite a bit of that... i'd rate this version as very good, and the zeppelin studio version as 'epic.'
robert Plant the magic...

I find it both awesome and ironic that all of the lore and imagination that was in their songs made me think of all that old medieval stuff...and now he looks like one of the dudes that'd be a king or something.
He does look very kingly.

@HeadRage Half their songs were about Lord of The Rings because Robert Plant read Lord Of THe Rings and was really into it lol

@sexxyjeff its just you. he looks more like the hermit in the Led Zeppelin 4 album cover. all he needs is the hooded robe and lantern.
