  • TERRIBLE sound 'quality'

  • @JBME It was recorded off the air. High quality TV sound didn't exist back then.

  • @JBME It was recorded off the air in 1980. High quality TV sound didn't exist back then.

  • @JBME Terrible sound quality and so????? Donna still sounds GREAT! You can't take that away from The Diva!

  • i knew from the first time i saw her back in 1975 that this lady(donna summer) was gonna be around for a long, long time, she is just the real deal, today's divas could learn so much from her about being a real diva, true talent and longevity, thats what being a diva really is

  • She is and remains the dance diva and her voice is so authentic that you don't need a pre-recorded audio for her. She is an original diva.

  • Thanks for uploading this great video!!!

  • Does she know that she has something in her hair over there on the right?

  • @Lynsi0ux Yes, but since it doesn't eat that much she lets it stay.

  • The best singer of all times, God bless you Donna

  • awsome song i was 13 when this was new.jason stein ft.wayne in.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONNA DEC 31ST

YOU ARE MY FAORITE FEMALE SINGER EVER!!!

    FROM YOUR #1 FAN

    DEEDUBB1979

    GOD BLESS

  • This was when singers actually sang!! Love her! Thanks for the video!!

  • this is fabulous. i totally love it !!!!! i remember purchasing this as 45rpm when i was a teen, and the beginning 2 mins kept skipping..so i took it back and got another one and it skipped also..i loved vinyl but the only drawback with vinyl was sometimes you would get a vinyl recording that would skip or would be a tad warped.

  • Donna Summer has a new single coming out this August, 2010. It's called, "To Paris With Love". There's going to be some great mixes too!

  • "Don't leave even one drop, no do it tonight/ You know the moments are right, turn my brown body white"

  • Donna Ruled the late 79's an early '80s. I remember gathering to watch this on a 12" Black n White TV. Great Memories.

  • She can dim my lights

  • It sounds great underwater too.

  • This song is so GREAT that I had to play it over again. Twice.

  • Yeah, yet another captivating song from Donna, love it!

  • I edited this special for ABC in late 1979, early 1980. Notice that Donna had just written the song and she keeps looking down to cue cards!

  • Steve Perry has 25 seconds in "Winds Of March"...Anyway Donna rocks....not my fave song of hers...but I still dig it. She was hott with a double "T" in those days wasn't she?

  • And don't forget Genoa Keawe, who were able to hold a note, add some vibrato and change the pitch for over 20 seconds. Anyway, the best voices in the mainstream have come from the jazz and soul scenes, being most of them black singers. Streisand and Carey are lesser names in these list

  • Not to take anything away from the incomparable Donna Summer, but Melba Moore has 20 seconds on "Falling"

  • Her voice back then is still unchanged even through the years. Its incredible.

  • I'm almost positive that the note is a 16-second note, which is the longest note ever held by a female top-40 singer in history.

  • Artist: Donna Summer

    Title: Dim All The Lights

Notes: Contains the longest-held note by any female vocalist to make the Top 40 (16 secs)... HEAR IT.

The overall longest-held note is in Bill Withers' Lovely Day (18 secs).

  • The pride of Dorcherster MA. What an incredible talent.

  • I love this song but it would be better if it didn't sound like it was underwater.

  • It was recorded with a Betamax almost 30 years ago. Sorry for the audio quality. They didn't have stereo television back then.

  • @MoondogMayne Better Betamax than nothing at all :)

  • @MoondogMayne LOL :P

  • @MoondogMayne - why apologize? A least you put it up here. :) I appreciate the antiquity of the clip. Thanks! :)

  • @DyvaNaye You're welcome. Glad you appreciate it. Some people would complain no matter what.

  • @DyvaNaye You're welcome Dyva. Glad you appreciate it. Some people would complain no matter what.

  • @MoondogMayne I used to hold my cassette recorder up tp the TV to record songs..I still have my Air Supply in Hawaii

  • @miamiviceali LOL!!! I used to do the same thing!!

  • this was her TV special from Jan 1980, I was spellbound watching it, she truly is incredible!

  • at the timeshe recorded this, it was the longest note sung in a song. i believe it was 17 or 19 seconds. its was only 13 seconds in this clip. (still amazing). i could be wrong but this still might be a record. can anyone tell me if im wrong. id like to know who beat it.

  • To the best of my knowledge Donna and Melba Moore are neck and neck on holding the longest note. Melba Released a hit song titled ''Falling'' and held the note about 15-18 seconds long back in 1986.

  • Minnie Riperton reportedly held a note for almost 33 seconds. Mariah has held a note for 30 seconds. Streisand 25 seconds.

  • my understanding is that it is the song made it to the top-40...that is the distinction, as we all know the top-40 is basically 3minutes max and to consume a good part of a minute with a single note is the unusual part. No doubt others as well as her have had longer notes --- it's the fact it charted that way thats the distinction.

  • Donna is one of the most underated singers and performers of our time. I saw her live in London in 1987 and she was fantastic!

  • Are you kidding? She was labeled "The Queen of Disco( a hard title to earn). Her hits played endlessly in the 70's on many stations. She was the first well-known and most popular disco artist, giving her the title 'The Queen of Disco', and also played a part in pioneering the electronic sound that later became a part of disco Unfortunately, after the day that Disco died( after 1979 Chicago's Comiskey Park in dj Steve Dahl's Disco Demolition), disco itself lost popularity.

  • saw here in las vegas 2007 and she still sings her ass off

  • You are right. She is unbelievable underated. She was madonna befor e madonna. I don't know why.

  • @starnebula1 actually, she owns madonna

  • u know she sanged for a pkemon movie!? if u want to hear it , its called the power of one. its actually pretty good : )

  • Donna is one of the few female singers that sounds like the original recording. She never lets her fans down when she is performing in concert. She is simply awesome!!!!!

  • @1musicencyclopedia Absolutely. Actually, she is one of the few singers, male or female, who sounds in person like her recordings, because she didn't need electronic voice enhancements to begin with.

  • Donna THE EMPRESS at her best. The longest held note in pop history on this song. She looks stunning.... a real performer.

  • Fuck off You know nothing. Go play with your nintendo

  • Donna rocked the lights out with this smash hit of hers! Yes, occasionally some other artist will produce a better version than that created by the originating artist. But not with Donna's stuff! Thanks, MoondogMayne, for making this great Donna video available to us to enjoy.

  • i luve thi ssong

  • This is the classic 1979 concert video footage of this song. I remember this vividly when she sang it live. You should hear Laura Branigan's version also. For a moment it was said that Laura almost sounded like Donna at one time.

  • Stereo Review once said that Laura strived to reach tones that Donna sang while having her nails polished, poor Laura, not nice on her, but Donna really is one of a kind, and generously gifted, precious little anyone can do about it.

  • Would be cool to see the whole concert video. I've heard Laura's version which is good but Donna's (the original) is amazing...

  • Brilliant song

  • oh anoop..i miss him.

  • Anoop Anoop Anoop!!

  • Anoop did the GREATEST job with this!

  • anoop did a great job with this

  • Now, this is how the song should sound!

  • such a funky bass :)

PS- we'll miss u anoop dawg

  • ugh, they shouldn't of saved that guy last week, he was horrible.

  • anoop just got the boot

  • LOVE NOOP DOGG .....

  • im glad he left! ughh!

  • EXACTLY! That's what i think!

  • So effortless for Donna

  • Anoop should have followed the speed-up in tempo like Donna does it. The arrangement they gave him was weird. Hope it doesn't cost him in the end.

  • I agree. He tried to be too unique.

  • YAY ANOOP!

he was amazing with this song.

  • Anoop is great! Matt and Lil are going home.

  • I Agree with you. This is what I was thinking. Anoop gets another chance ok

  • Anoop sucks

  • He won't go home if you people fucking vote!!

  • Will not go home. dont panic

  • I really think that its gnona be anoop and lil to go home tomorrow =/ I think everyone else did really good specially kris and matt

  • Dim all the lights for Anoop - he will be lucky to stay alive beyond this evening on AI. He should have chosen a song with a stronger, haunting, riveting melody, one universally known. Disappointed.. as he has one of the best voices and voice control on the show.

  • I like a ton of anoop fans came on here to check to see his song :]

    GO ANOOP!

  • hopefully....

  • this is PERFECT for ANOOPIE!!! Go ANOOP!!!!

  • Anoop is going to SLAY this tonight!!!!

  • Hell Yea!

  • yameted.... can i eff you're mama in the ass, if i'm right? jackass.

  • lol thats why i came to look it up.

i think hell do good on it, no?

  • Career never was killed......it took a hiatus. Great talent doesn't ever really go away, and she has it.

  • omg!! FLASH BACKS ---FLASH BACKS ---FLASH BACKS --- thank you thank you Donna!!!

  • Umm..get a grip timex2check; Try.."too bad she let the fact that she was still trying to disco in the 80s" destroy her career

  • obviously, you haven't heard her 80s, 90s, or 00s hits lol

  • the funny thing is,I knew way back when love to love you came out that Donna had a voice, a killer set fo pipes,so why it took so long for everyone else to figure it out is beyond me!

  • listen to that note!!!

  • she works hard for the money was a huge hit

  • she holds that note for more than 16 seconds..I heard that on the radio,...AMAAAZING.

  • My gosh, such a talented singer. She makes it look so effortless. thanks for posting

  • Very talented singer, one of my favorites from her...

  • I think she wanted to do rock but it was the producers that messed her up and try to box her into the R&B/Urban.

  • Sin duda alguna, la reyna de la DISCO...

  • You Betta Sang Bitch!!!!

  • Ha Ha!!!

  • the queen can SING!

  • The great thing about this song, it was written solely by Donna Summer! Such an under-rated singer/songwriter!

  • She is a great performer.

Donna has been around for more than 30 years and she can still captivate an audience !!!

  • Sweet Jesus! This is IT! The legendary, seldom-seen 1980 ABC concert special I saw when I was a kid! I had to ask my parents to stay up late to watch it but I was hooked and hypnotized from the first note - WHY hasn't this brilliant gem of a TV special been reissued on DVD - cmon! Brings back great childhood/disco memories!
