Rest in Peace, Derek. There was never a finer, more exemplary role model in all of sports. He was a friend of my family, and used to introduce me to all of the UofL guys he mentored. Big stuff for a 9-10 year old. Toward the end, Derek sat in my dad's and my section in the "L Club" in Freedom Hall. He always did the rounds and talked to people during time outs. He always gave me five. When he passed, Louisville and the nation lost a truly decent, kind ambassador, and he is sorely missed.
