  • there are a buncha comments saying Jordan DIDNT get dunked on. Did he not go up and try to defend Smith's shot??? this dunk was not "uncontested". Therefore, Jordan DID get dunked on. that is all. GO CARDS!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I meant to say *im* not in

  • As a blazers fan in hoping nolan smiths got half the talent hid fathet had

  • And his son Nolan Smith is now a pg in the NBA

  • why is this nerd talking about basketball?

  • mj outlasted alot of guys. emmit smith outlasted alot of guys. i could go on and on. mj didnt break down, didn't get tired, didn't take one night off. there have been many comers and i've seen alot of their moments. that makes this game great. if all you watched was sportscenter in the eighties you'd have mostly seen mike but there was a greater story. moments like this are why i don't favor best-player lists. i prefer top moments lists.

  • Na MJ didn't get dunked on. He got past Michael didn't dunk on him though.

  • This is stupid, D-Smith didn't dunk ON MJ he dunked PAST MJ. Big difference. Then this interview guy talking bout how he slammed on MJ "in his face" ummm no, that did not happen, MJs face was nowhere near the actual dunk lol. FYI people, in order to dunk ON someone the defender you dunk on has to be between you and the rim, with you rising over that defender and finishing the dunk. Dunking past someone, along the side of someone, or near someone does not constitute dunking ON them.

  • NICE!!

  • derek smith > mj

  • he didnt dunk on him

  • best nobody dunk on youtube!!!!

  • Sup jbocardfan, if you wish to get better in basketball, you must start following a proper training program. I used widely known nba workout system here (50-inch-vertical(dot)com). I haven t even told this to my high school teammates yet ha

  • Mike Jordan is a bitch.

  • Derek Smith's son is Nolan Smith of the Duke Blue Devils. What a coinkidink.

  • That was indeed Derick Smith I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL with him in the small town of Hogansville, Georgia He was an OUTSTANDING PLAYER, but even a BETTER PERSON! RIP my friend your so Nolan is carrying on your legacy VERY WELL!

  • Man..it's a shame my unc died like that. He a true legend! Derek Smith was the best.

  • He did not dunk on Jordan their was no body contact he went under him and then dunked it, i saw the dunk under another angle thanks to a video uploaded by GoldLakerLion when he has contact with the rim Jordan isnt even in the screenshot

  • Why are you all tryin to hate on Derek smith? just cuz he dunked on the best player ever

  • HA Flakie Jordan got a taste of his own medicine.

  • are you crazy that was derek smith i know his son

  • he aint evn dunk on him he went under him wen he reversed and then dunked

  • Rest in Peace, Derek. There was never a finer, more exemplary role model in all of sports. He was a friend of my family, and used to introduce me to all of the UofL guys he mentored. Big stuff for a 9-10 year old. Toward the end, Derek sat in my dad's and my section in the "L Club" in Freedom Hall. He always did the rounds and talked to people during time outs. He always gave me five. When he passed, Louisville and the nation lost a truly decent, kind ambassador, and he is sorely missed.

  • No biggie. Jordan = Greatest Of All Time. Smith = a trivia question.

  • @RAV52 Your Momma is a trivia question LOL>>>

  • @winpointmedia Looks like YouTube still hasn't found a way to keep 7 year old retards like you off the site. Go finger paint or something, kid.

  • @RAV52 So what? Why do you feel the need to say that as if there's someone who doesn't know how good Jordan is? We all do. It's really cool that this guy Smith managed to dunk on him.

How about you go do something with your life instead of trying to shit on this guy's memory? This is just plain disrespectful of you.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp Nobody remembers him in the NBA, so what memory would you be referring to? I'm talking about the play anyhow and fuck you for assuming anything about me and my life. There, is that disrespectful enough for you? Who the fuck are you, his sister?

  • @RAV52 He's dead, you pathetic excuse for a human being. Why did you feel the need to write that comment in the first place? Clearly you don't have much of a life (at least not a worthwhile one) if you feel good about going onto Youtube videos sheerly to disrespect someone. Particularly for doing something that you will never in your life have the ability to do.

Your first post was more than enough disrespect. You should be ashamed of yourself. And I'm clearly not his sister, dumbfuck.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp I've dunked on many people in my life and it wasn't a big deal. Shut your fucking mouth and mourn Derek in your own way. Everyone dies and I wasn't making light of his death you cocksucking idiot. Pull that thong out of your ass and get on with your own life, asshole.

  • @RAV52 Ah, the pot calls the kettle black.

I'm guessing you've never dunked on Jordan. That's a big deal. Love how you enjoy tearing down other people for their accomplishments, particularly dead people. Charming, clearly your best quality. Never said you were making light of his death, just being a dick and disrespecting his memory.

Oh, and my mouth isn't open, it's a Youtube comment. You don't have to be a total moron, you know. And I don't know how you do, but most men don't wear thongs.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp He didn't even dunk "ON" Michael Jordan. He went to the other side of the rim and dunked the ball. Exaggerate much, princess? Like I said, pull your thong out of your ass and realize that Derek Smith will never be recognized for his lackluster NBA career. His college career however, will be his calling card and it has nothing to do with his being alive or not.

  • @RAV52 Ehm, I'm not the one who initially "exaggerated." This video is CALLED 'derek smith dunks on michael jordan,' so...

That's not what you said, anyways. You called him a "trivia question" which is exceptionally insulting and disrespectful to his memory. And more than you'll ever be, ironically.

And as I said, men aren't supposed to wear thongs! I don't know what your mum or dad told you, but they're actually for women. I'd imagine when you think about it, it'll make more sense to you.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp As an NBA player he is a trivia question. Sometimes the truth hurts. Very few people remember him that didn't follow the Louisville Cardinals or the Los Angeles Clippers. Maybe if you'd stop acting all emotional like a woman the thong reference wouldn't fit you so well.

  • @RAV52 What about this are you not getting? I had a problem with your first comment, which was pretty callous and poorly stated, so much so that it came off as incredibly disrespectful. Then you acted like a royal douche about it, cussing me out. Calling someone a "trivia question" just 'cause you're cranky he dunked on your idol (a legend who I doubt cares about one dunk) is childish and rude.

If you wanted to talk college vs. NBA, that's what you should've done. As opposed to being a jerk.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp Or you could've just kept your crush on an NBA Trivia question to yourself and ignored my statement if it wasn't directed to you. Don't get all butt hurt at me, when in reality, you probably don't even know Derek Smith or his family.

  • @RAV52 Alright, and you're back in jackass mode. You clearly have a very inflated opinion of yourself. Really, congratulations on going out of your way to be a dick. And though you meant it as an insult to a guy's memory, a trivia question is more than a spiteful person such as yourself could ever dream of being.

Oh, and Michael Jordan would probably think you're an asshole.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp You again? Shouldn't you be scouring the Internet for more Derek Smith NBA highlights? Oh yeah, there are no more. A tube of Vagisil might help that yeast infection you seem to have. And Michael Jordan would definitely think you should pull your head out of your ass and join the rest of us here in REALITY.

  • @RAV52 Not really. You're just a disrespectful & rude person who clearly has issues, and it's unacceptable. As I said, congratulations on going out of your way to be an ass. I'll send you a medal. And you clearly have issues with women. Personally, I love 'em. Here's a tip: they'll stop rejecting you if you stop being a dick. And wearing thongs. Like I told you, they're for WOMEN.

But really, stop and think about where your life is headed if you behave this way. See if you can turn it around.

  • @HelloIdiotsWhatsUp Looks like your ass is still hurting, Princess... your thong must be too tight. Instead of sending me a medal, buy yourself a clue...You don't seem to have one at the moment.

  • every blind squirrel stumbles accross a not every once in a while

  • #VIDEOPOSTERID# seriously, just what else can I say. If you play basketball, you need to all learn the way to dunk, I simply just of late done the training program over at 50inch vertical[dot]com - it's the best program available (Guess what, I'm only 5'8!)

Derek Smith dunks on Michael Jordan

  • Pay attention to these words: Nolan Smith is now Derek Smith. Nolan will carry out from his fathers footsteps. He will be the next big force in the NBA. There is nothing that Nolan can't do. I hope all of you watched as Nolan won the national championship in the same city as his father did exactly 30 years ago. Nolan Showtime Smith is the truth.

  • damn that was sick! sad he died when nolan was only 8 but he seemed to have raised him pretty well in the time he had

  • that was not a dunk ON michael jordan. he didn't go over jordan. he used the rim to keep jordan from blocking the dunk. jordan wasn't even guarding smith. he just happened to come over to come over to chase him on the fast break. in that clip, michael jordan was only covering him once, and michael was screened. "he lit jordan up." BULL. "derek waited for him and then took it up to the next level." BULL. come on.

  • @idster7 So why didn't Jordan block him on the other side of the basket?

  • Derek Smith is awesome, Nolan definitely has some of his swagger

  • No matter how you look at it, that was a dunk on somebody. Who was that going up for the block? Hey, it happens to the best of em. Too bad there aren't more highlights of Derek Smith, he was an awesome talent. It was a terrible thing that he passed away so young.

  • desalescolt2014 you are an idiot. Derek Smith was an excellent player who tore up his knee, otherwise he would 've been better known today. He passed away of a heart attack at the age of 34. 34! He left a wife and two kids behind. I remember him well, he was an awesome player. Now his son plays for Duke and carries on his legacy.

  • That was not a dunk on Jordan, although it was a great play. D. Smith used the rim for protection, and went under to dunk on the other side, not ON Jordan.

  • a great player, a great person....time ended his run into basketball immortality.

  • had to be 84-85 season when Jordan was rookie and Walton's last year with the Clippers.

  • ooh nice dunk in jordans face...too bad he became a nobody while jordan became a legend XD

  • Nolan Smith of Duke is his son. . .

  • He didn't dunk OVER Jordan. And i'm not saying that because i'm an MJ fan. Look at the dunk, he simply went past Jordan and dunked the ball on the other side. But he DID NOT rise up over top of him.

  • Derek Smith would have been a superstar had he not tore his knee up. I went to the game when he lit MJ up at the sports arena he was a good scorer and he played good defense. Even Jordan said that he would have been his competition Dude was that good he just tore his knee up and had a short career like Andrew Toney. R.i.p. Derek Smith.

  • @oleold MJ never said that.MJ is the greatest!

  • @oleold this guy was better than Jordan

  • So what? EVerybody got dunked on sometimes in their career.

  • Im more impressed by Waltons block get that shit outta here Jordans still the man though but dude Derek Smith had hops.

  • MJ wasn't really dunked on. The guy switched hands and basically evaded MJ's challenge.

You're considered "dunked on" when a player goes through your challenge not around it.

Anyways, where is Derk Smith now?

  • hes dead jerk... hes nolan smiths dad..

  • dead.

  • Comment removed

  • @dthon1 i think he passed away in 95

  • @tbone072892 He passed on August 9, 1996.

  • Comment removed

  • That was LaBradford Smith, not Derek Smith, both went to Louisville though.

  • @jbocardfan I dont get the LeBradford reference..

  • @OHHJORDAN Wrong Smith. This is DEREK Smith.

  • Kobe has been dunked on, Lebron has been dunked on, Wade has been dunked on, and Tim Duncan has been dunked on. Its gonna happen to everyone sooner or later. i just got out of high school and i played high school basketball and i was dunked on Junior year..it wasnt that nasty tho :)

  • he didnt even dunk on him foreal i was expecting body contact him goin over jordan all he did was a reverse dunk and go under michael michael was actually higher than derek but it was nice but not dunked on

  • Co-sign this is like saying John Starks dunked on him too, just because you're in the picture means nothing, no body contact, no dunk, he reversed it to avoid Mj blocking it, it's got to be over Mj for it to be a dunk on

  • meet me at the next level nigga

  • derek who?

  • no doubt that michael jordan was one of the best players in NBA history, but everyone has to admit that derek smith kicked his ass on that dunk. maybe he didn't 'dunk on' him but either way it was shitty defense by jordan and a good dunk by derek smith

  • All you have to know about this dunk ON JORDAN is that Michael was furious with embarrassment afterward. MJ knew he was DUNKED ON even if his fans refuse to see it. Derek was the most complete player in the game at that point, MJ included, if he hadn't blown out his knee he'd be the one on the Nike products.

  • Derek wouldn't have been on the Nike products.

    You're an idiot.

Also, Micheal Jordan is a lot better than Derek; MJ wasn't even dunked on. He jumped early to where he flew behind him. And MJ went higher than Derek, so that guy isn't even looking at the correctly; for example, "He took it to the next level".

  • that was sick but i'm glad he did dunk on jordan because from that point on mj started to rip new assholes for anyone that tried to get in his way

  • LMAO that's Nolan Smith of Duke's dad!! smile for the poster MJ!

  • Ok, so MJ got dunk over here in this game, does that make Derek Smith any greater than MJ? I don't think so.

    Even Mutumbo had blocked MJ.

  • MJ got dunked on and then went to get 6 championships.

  • LOL!!!

  • Jordan OWNED!!!

  • R.I.P.

  • he didn't dunk on MJ, more like went past him and dunked it. to define dunking "on" someone there must be straight on contact. MJ never touched him. plus he was behind him when Smith dunked the ball...

  • wudddup LOUISVILLE

  • Everybody gets dunked in da face sometime, even MJ or Kobe, thats the bad thing about dunking over everybody, once someone dunks on you, its a fucfking fuzzz

  • I knew Derek. There was not a classier guy on this planet. May he rest in peace. When I was 9 years old, he was practicing in a Louisville gym I used to go to, and he lifted me up to dunk the ball. I'll carry that memory with me forever.

  • he was a great guy. he was one of my dads good friends in college

  • Jordan got dunked on. Admit it.

  • and jordan doesn´t give up on the play

  • this is a great dunk... jordan wasn´t the only great dunker in the league. and this guy was a great dunker. he goes around jordan that is worst that in the face in my opinion.

  • How do we know how many fouls Jordn had at that stage of the game? I actually recall watching this episode when it originally aired. Ted Green seems like a guy who could talk himself into a job before finding out he is just an empty suit.

  • Definitely not "In the face." And nice dunk though it was...wtf was that clipper exec on when he said...took it up to the next level. Jordan did actually fly past him (see: utfanatic2000). What an innocuous highlight. Even in that 63 pt game in the playoffs against the Celts, even the sub-mortal/hobbit-ork offspring Daniel Ainge had a driving lay-p past MJ for what amounted to his fourth pt. of the game.

Jordan is peerless --stop posting BS.

  • derek smith, may he rest in peace.

  • roy firestone is a f'ing mutt. and so is that idiot with him.

  • WOW

  • But as you can see Jordan played against a bunch of short white people.

  • Cool dunk against Jordan.

  • MJ "The next big force in the NBA" haha

  • That actually isn't a facial. Jordan flew past him and Derek went under him to dunk on the reverse. He didn't dunk "in his face"

  • Yeah it was technically since Michael Jordan gave up the basket

  • Nope, "giving up a basket" is not the same as getting facialized. I've seen many facials. This was not one, nor even close. Jordan didn't get dunked on "in his face", Jordan simply few past Derek who went under him to dunk on the other side. Not even close to a facial. Learn your basketball terminology bud.

  • If it wasn't Michael Jordan u'd be sayin' it was in his face

  • No, I wouldn't. It was an awesome play and dunk, it simply wasn't in Jordan's face.

  • i agree

  • aannddd im sure jordan came back and sat his sack on the back of his neck

  • I think that was Jordan's rookie year. Bulls won that game I think. I have it on DVD. Nice dunk.

  • Derek Smith, RIP.

  • Tarheel fans that is a facial. D.Smith put it on MJ. The AI cross was sick, however this has to go down as a classic facial. I'm surprised this is the first I'm seeing or hearing about this. The Starks dunk is the closets he has ever been to being immortalized in someone else's poster. How ironic though that D.Smith's son goes to Duke.

  • yeah, cjetswin71, im a die hard tar heel fan, and that was an absolutely sick facial

  • Yes, he did have 33 that game,I am 40 years old and remember the Sports page ,here in Louisville.Derek had two VERY nasty knee injuries that limited his years in the NBA. a great player and a great guy ,all around.Did alot for charities here in Louisville.Always had a smile on his face and never a negative word to say. His son Nolan, plays for Duke now.RIP Derek.

  • bull shit 33 pts on MJ lol ur funny

  • he didnt light jordan up

  • That's about as close as I've seen, but "in the face?" Nah.

  • awesome footage, how did derek finish his career?

  • surprising

  • never seen this thnx for this.
