  • I take issue with your theme which is that depression is 'bad' and that drugs are needed to cure this condition. An analogy I use is to compare mental anguish with physical pain. As much as I would like not to feel pain it is well known that those who are unable to feel pain actually die young. I am an old man now but when I look back on my life I see the necessity of those times where I experienced emotional pain. In fact those times were actually defining moments in my life's experience.

  • I would not swap them for the world. They are part of my life's rich and wonderful tapestry. I have experienced great lows but without which I would never have experienced such highs. The thought of taking drugs to 'flatten' my joy and sorrow is equivalent to a flatline. It would appear that the brain changes caused by SSRIs cause greater withdrawal problems than heroin - a few days of flu like symptoms. I reject your paradigm totally. ;-)

  • I give you props for how you presented this. Any 'advice' provided to the public can be dangerous. I am currently in between withdrawing one anti-depressants and starting a new one. I never really paid much attention to the infrequent and relatively mild zaps. Didn't think about how they usually occurred when I had not had enough sleep. And didn't really think about the eye movement. Well now it all comes together. Good to know it lessens at least for you. More power to ya.

  • I had sudden jolts when falling asleep... Always wondered what the hell?? I do the "misstep" before going to sleep where I fly forward but this was different it was electrified or something... Zoloft is crap and turned my gut to crap! I only hurt myself or thought of doing so when I was ON antidepressants. They said I was also bipolar and had OCD but I got off their meds and I'm happier now! Nothing is wrong with my brain! Diet, activity and natural remedies have worked much better for me!

  • PEOPLE SHOULD JUST NEVER START DRUGS AND THEN THEY WON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEIR NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES! IT IS A CHOICE!

  • @LYYSL

Hahahaha. These withdrawal symptoms that I talked about in this video, they were nothing, absolutely nothing compared to what I was trying to stop.

It's not a black and white situation you know. Doctors spend a lot of time both studying and gaining experience with patients so they can make such decisions and even then, many a time cannot get it right. So I doubt some random internet person is going to know any better.

  • ....but I lowered my own dose (and told the Dr. after wards), as I had heard Zoloft was having some bad adverse effects with some people...anyway...wow... You are so funny... I LOVE how you explain things on your vids. Think I'm addicted :P!!!!

  • I was on Paxil years ago...found out I was pregnant with my thrid-born, so went off of it cold turkey... I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about when you were talking about the 'ZAPS'...as I went through the same withdrawal...plus I also had Vertigo/dizziness...ugh it was HORRIBLE...and it went on for a few months. So not only was I pregnant, going through morning sickness...but also had the 'zaps'! WOW... they had you on such a high dose! I was on 150 zoloft when they first started me(now)

  • @Rebecca71Jeanine

Damn zaps plus morning sickness must suck :(

Yeah, when I got referred to a psychiatrist, he took me off the zoloft completely. It was a GP prescribing me the meds.

  • Oh and Zoloft, I've been on it, I've been on nearly every anti-depressant, Zoloft was one of the worst, lots of sexual side effects with that one (with males at least), lets leave it at that lol

  • Ya I know all to well about the brain zaps, any clue about why that happens? And ya not all antidepressants are SSRI's, there are SNRI's like the ones I take (Effexor) that increase norepinephrine and the old MAOI's and tricyclic's, still SSRI's and SNRI's are the best.

  • i laughed so much towards the end lol

  • I watched a video of you talking about your social anxiety from 2009. you seemed a little bit less errm physically expressive than in this video? are you usually like this or are the drugs making you a little too energetic?

  • @fiygkjhgvjlhvgfjklgh

I actually can't remember if I was on meds in this video or not. I've been on and off different SSRIs since 2004. How 'expressive' I appear in a video depends on my mood and what I'm talking about. I suppose you can compare this one to my video called 'depression!' Valium on the other hand probably changes it too. I'm on Valium on the video called "Nervous Neuron is Nervous about Injections"

  • @nervousneuron you remind me of the lady from Destiny Productions

  • @MorbidAngel2011

    What's Destiny Productions?

  • @nervousneuron a really strange cult. look them up when you get the chance. all thier videos got taken down of Youtube for some reason. lady only talked through possession from another spirit. never used her own.

  • Comment removed

  • hey you rock, don't let the doubters get you down, i know what you experienced to be dead on true as I am going through it right now, withdrawal from20 years of ssri, yes i will say it again WITHDRAWAL, screw you Eli Lily and company, i am dependent and trying to withdraw, just wanted to say thanks for info about eye brain connection, that has helped me, even though i usually have to keep eyes closed, lol,,but thanks for video , it helped.

  • @patticakeify

20 years! Good luck with it. For zoloft, it took several months (I can't remember exactly how long) for them to fully go away even with tapering down. I'm now on Prozac and I've maybe missed it for a month and never gotten zaps. Only withdrawal from that for me is some slight dizzy feeling. But it's different for everybody.

  • @patticakeify do you believe that these drugs cause brain damage? and if so what kinds of brain damage..thanks

  • You're really cute and have an awesome personality. I just found out I've been taking painkillers for days instead of Zoloft. BZZZ xD

  • idk if i'm Experiencing the same thing you are,but i've not been able to take my zoloft in 3 days and i've been getting these wired throbby feelings in my head and also shock type feelings (even as i type this) and i'm getting tons of spasms...anyway,you seem really awesome, and this video brought me comfort in all of this :)

  • Heck I figure I'll comment. Here's my story. On zyprexa for 14 months destroyed my cognition. Found a natural treatment to Chemical imballences. Tapered off zyprexa I'm still suffering withdrawal after 4 months on and off. I just started getting brain zaps because I triggered a bad protracted withdrawal, this is a pain my head feels funny I can barely think it hurts to be alive and it's hard to sleep. I'm all depersonalized but it'll pass..

  • @ThoughtsFromTheMyst

Damn that sucks how some people get such shitty side effects and withdrawals.

  • great video. i hate the zaps. its like the electricity is going into your brain.

  • this person isn't a dickhead or crazy..just has a good sense of humor and is goofy!

  • I'm taking mirtazapin, it works tetracyclic, there are no zaps when I use to get rid of it, but hardcore depressions takes me away from life again.

  • you can tell this person is mentally ill and a loon

  • @SuperDelta000

you can tell this person is a dickhead

  • i quit taking SSRIs in 2006.I never had brain zaps and actually tolerated it fine.I took paxil mostly. But after learning that many SSRIs contain fluoride,i decided i didnt want to take it anymore.

  • @IwontConform

Yeah, depends on the drug and the individual for withdrawals. After not taking prozac for ages (which I'm on now) I didn't notice any side effects. Interesting that fluoride was the dealbreaker for you... that stuff is in tap water too.

  • @nervousneuron i took prozac 20 years ago.I seemed to tolerate it okay, except for sexual side effects.I was on nothing but tricyclics before that.I`ll tell you another reason why i prefer to not take meds, despite generally tolerating them,is because i dont have a great deal of confidence in the FDA or the pharma industry.I dont think many drugs are given adequate safety evaluations before being approved because of industry lobbies who care more about getting drugs to market quickly..

  • i was on extacy for a long time in the 90-th:s, raver.. and when i had done a LOT of extacy for many days in a row.. efter thoes episods i had exakttly the same zaps as when going of SSRI.. and this makes med think.. how unhealthy is this shit??

    peace..

  • @petersedin

Actually doesn't say anything about how unhealthy OR healthy either MDMA or SSRIs are because we don't actually know what these zaps are. Except that it's a withdrawal symptom likely involving serotonin

    , which isn't really a good thing :P

  • anyone knows what those "zaps" really is??? i always get them when stop taking my zoloft.. i mean what the fukk happens in the brain??

  • @petersedin

Nope, no one actually knows for sure. It's sometimes called Paresthesia (fancy name for pins and needles) but its still not known whether the two sensations have anything in common.

  • i had brain zaps. but mine were actually caused by late stage Lyme Disease. ive never been on antidepressants. when i was at my worst the zapping made it very hard to think clearly or even sleep. i still get them sometimes but not as bad. i wish doctors had a better grasp on curing these because they make you feel crazy!!

  • Phosphatidyl Serine Matrix, TAKE IT!!!! My father died of brain Cancer. I to have brain ZAPS. It is greatly diminished since i reduced my fluoride levels. THIS ISNT A JOKE. The only thing that causes cancer & brain zaps is RADIATION!! A doctor is not qualified to diagnose it because nothing is known about it in this field. However Biochemistry knows alot. You cannot take SSRI's or Pharma. You MUST stop taking them immediately. Serine will solve your anxiety by repairing cortizol resceptors

  • The brain zap can be discribed as this....Imagine your brain is like a rubber band. Then something pulls it tight, and then lets it go. TWANG! Lasts about a second. Zap is a good term as it describes the speed of it happening.

  • Hey there, great video and very informative. I am not on Zoloft, never have been but I am currenty coming of Prozac. I was on 80mgs a day, then 2 weeks ago I was cut by 50% with my agreement to 40mgs daily for two weeks. Yesterday I took another 50% cut to 20mgs daily. Next week I will be off them altogether. This is being done in order to change me to Effexor. I have been on Prozac since 2001 for OCD and depression but they seemed to stop working around last Xmas. Zaps a plenty. Ta, Shaz. x0x.

  • @sharonah67 if you are getting zaps from prozac withdrawal please dont take effexor...or dont even miss an hour in your normal routine of taking effexor, a known brain zapper.

  • I had quit my job of nearly 5 years. It was then that I found out how much these drugs cost. So I went cold turkey again. That was 1999, had killer withdrawals, but I had been through it before. Soooo I just dealt with it.. Now I have the zaps occationally.

People need to think long and hard before the opt for ssri therapy. I'm really very depressed, however, no drug can ever cure it. You have to excersize it, work it, out smart it, I just keep reminding myself Ima be OK

  • I've been there with the brain ZAPS. The first time was some crack pot doc had me on paxil and Zyprexa for depression. Zyprexa is an anti psycotic, only, I was never diagnosed with any kind of psycosis. I was unable to function on such a hard core narcotic, so I quit it all cold turkey after about six months.

The next time. I spent 30 days in the booby hatch. I came from there with a mix of zoloft and pamolar ( nortriptolene). The results were marginal at best. After a year.

  • I just recently got prescribed Celexa... It's improved my mood tremendously but I'm only on the first week still. I'm worried about any adverse affects but I find my cognitive function is up from what it's been in recent months and days. But you recovered I can recover too, if it happens to me. Thanks for your vid!

  • That's horrible. I took about seven generic zoloft, and have been twitching for weeks... I WIL NEVER TAKE ANTI DEPRESANTS AGAIN!

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fucking head pings. I call em head pings - like someone implanted a tuning fork in my skull and someone would whack it if I avert my eyes left right.

  • I had bad brain zaps for a long, long time after getting off of 10 years on Paxil. My Dr. had me taper off slower, but it didn't help. It was such hell that I now just live with my illness for fear of this happening again.

  • It is true that they don't listen. They just throw pills names at you until one sticks.

  • I've had the brain zaps before...sucks.

  • I was withdrawing from Effexor, and had the brain shocks too! None of the doctor's believed me!!!!

  • @Neequu78 they believed you... they just pretended they didnt.

  • yeah i just think i dont do very well with zoloft makes me feel zombiefied!i started taking it for anxiety and panic disorder, but since taking it have developed really bad depression so gotta go back to doctors friday.and yeah lol best side effects ever every night was like a mini adventure!had 1 dream i was in a computer game like resident evil and couldnt wake up that was unsettling lol btw thanks for advice keep up the vids ;)

  • @Aislan4414

Sucks that nothing worked. Not even a bit? These kinds of psychiatric meds usually never cure anybody or completely get rid of symptoms, but they can help is making life a bit easier to live. I'm on prozac now which is at least helping.

    And horde all the way!

  • ive been on zoloft 6 weeks now n have been having a real bad time sleeping on them!and also feel like i have flu constantly didnt you experience none of these side effects?also doctor prescribed me two weeks zopiclone to help me sleep and wow was two weeks of constant lucid dreams was well cool lol

  • @hellboy82100

Nah, didn't really get any side effects on zoloft. Talk to your doctor to make sure they really are side effects and not the actual flu or something that can be helped. My mother complained about a side effect of some meds she took, but it turned out to be a completely different disorder which had nothing to do with the meds.

Two weeks of lucid dreams would be awesome, now those are the kinds of side effects I like.

  • You talk funny.

  • smoke weed every day

  • Yeah. Going through it now. Shit my brains out for two days. Now the zaps are fucking with me. Not the first time. I was on vacation for a week and didn't bring enough Paxil. Now I'm home but too late to get a scrip filled. If I turn my head I fall over. When I lie down in bed I can't roll over without the zaps.

For a while I thought it was just me. Then I did research. Now I'm on the intertubes hoping I can sleep until I can get a hit in the morning.

  • I feel sick haha, that's whats causing my nausea. Trying to stop banging my head against walls to control the brain shocks. I'm confused all the time and feel like shit :) .... Had to get back on the pills

  • Yep got the reference on the screen straight away, at least I think I did.

Is it that the woman on the screen is the perceived idealistic "normal" person our society portrays? Or am I way off?

  • @karlkarlkarl1234

Haha, not that deep. It's a nod at the video of some banker getting busted looking at Miranda Kerr on TV - watch?v=v1m8a4Jl4ZI

  • zoloft was my 2nd antideppresent and it was fucking awful! Prozac is the best

  • @anticenaguy what was bad about of zoloft?

i'm starting my weening tomorrow does anyone have any suggestions?

  • @Jarederaj zoloft was my 2nd med...it made feel like a zombie day in and day out and it gave me sucide thoughts due to the dizziness and lazziness i was getting from it...it didnt even lift my moods! so not only was i even more depressed but i was sick as a dog too! i would recommend zoloft to anybody

  • @anticenaguy was this before or after weening?

  • @Jarederaj before....i started to happen after 3 days of taking it...i then stopped taking it and went to take a med called Duloxetine but it was too strong...so i went onto prozac which was amazing

  • @anticenaguy how was it too strong.

  • You're beautiful!

  • Your Retarded......

  • @HighJoy69

    You're an idiot...

  • @nervousneuron Thats not what your Mom said..are you Bi-Polar..?

  • @nervousneuron Thanks for the video.

We should euthanize people like HighJoy69! Just kidding, we should just send them to an island and treat them like leppers. I can't believe people are so provincial and frivolous.

  • This video is great! So are you! I've also experienced bad almost incapcitating zapping for weeks and horrible mood swings in the past from ssri withdrawal. Though you might find it funny/interesting/scary that I was talking to my mother in law who is the head of neurology at a major hospital in the US and a respected researcher (and prescribes ssri's to a lot of her patients). When I mentioned "zaps" she didn't believe me/had never heard of it/didn't seem to care.

  • @mackpeterson123

Yep have mentioned the "brain zaps" to a doctor before and just got a blank look probably thinking I was nuts.

Unfortunately with the brain-zaps often comes nausea, dizziness & headaches. I don't know if this is prevalent in other people as well? This is with Effexor (a horrible chemical imho; should be named "sideeffexor"). It's so hard coming off it because of the nausea.

  • im the only one to notice shes wearin a worldof warcraft shirt..coool

  • Ouch! my ribs hurt so bad from laughing! This girl is hilarious. bzzzzt bzzzzt. Several years ago I was on zoloft for depression. The stuff worked very well for me. I was feeling so much better and began to forget to take the stuff on schedule. I began to experience the weird effect of like being shocked to normal. Its like your fine but then you go from a sudden bizarre craziness in your mind that immediately stops and you are fine again. I thought I was the only one having this effect.

  • you are a freak and a danger to society. ugly dyke hippy.

  • Love you long time <3

  • Hi there, thanks for posting. Effexor also does the same thing to me. Its funny, because for years I thought I was the only one suffering from this side effect. I always wanted to tell the Dr. but thought he would think I was crazy. I mean how does one explain this..."Ummm Doc, I get these strange Micro Electric Shocks in my brain". (Sure you do he thinks to himself!!!)

  • Some years ago, I tried to search for anyone else with similar symptoms and found nothing, hence I just put it down to the fact that well "I must be nuts" after all I was taking the drug for a mental condition (Panic Attacks). I see now that this "Brain Zapping" is all over the internet. Its nice to know I'm normal I guess.

  • Question, how do I know when I have forgotten my medication? My brain zaps me. Happens to me every time. Maybe we could be an energy source for 3rd world countries, just push a plug up our butts and we can light your house. Seriously though, its not funny, and I wonder what long term damage is being done.

  • Haha, that would be awesome.

As for long term damage, who knows? Any time you take a drug, it's a risk and you have to weigh it up against the symptoms you are trying to treat. For me, the risk is worth it, I'd do almost anything to be not depressed (at the time, I would have almost rather died, like many other depressed people). But if the side effects are worth then the original symptoms, why bother?

  • awesome can i use this video on my website?

  • Of course :)

  • u could said it in 2 min. Save ur viewers time.

  • Said what in 2 mins? "Oh hi, I took zoloft, now I don't and I got brain zaps''. You can go read that on wikipedia in 2 mins.

I'm sharing my experience to people who want to listen. If you don't want to, don't watch it, simple. You can see how long this video is before watching it. Sure, if it was 2 mins, I'd get more views but I wouldn't get to say what I want to say. That's more important to me than views.

  • MIllions of people take anti-depressants and will never get "brain zaps." You don't even know what you are talking about. You are a complete moron - never mind an evil person for torturing a live creature. No amount of Zoloft could help you - you ugly bitch.

  • Wow, you sure fail, commenting on my videos when you clearly didn't watch them. If you did, you would realise that I never said 'if you withdraw from zoloft, you WILL get brain zaps'. I didn't even say you will get withdrawal symptoms in the first place, I said you *might*. I explicitly said in the vid it varies for different people, only a small percentage of people get the zaps which you would have heard had you actually watched it. And you tell me I dont know what Im on about? Lol.

  • As for torturing a live creature had you watched the end of that vid, you would see a sign with April Fools on it as well as a link to where the 'distressed rat sound effects came from. You really jump to conclusions way too fast, and thats a shame. It probably explains why youre so homophobic and concerned with appearance.

  • im reading ur respond and ive got to said to you that u are ignorant ;-) peace :)

  • @DaimonR

What response, and ignorant about what?

  • Great movie, thank you, the brain zaps are for real, like elecrical shocks, i have been off mine for 3 weeks now and taking anti dizzy tablets and still feeling zappy, hope it wont last too long, no joke they dont tell you this in the beginning! you need to be strong to come off, good luck!

  • what was the music name that you used at the previous video?! Please tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me !

  • Why were you depressed?

  • @tvalerianopereira

    *facepalm...watch the videos...sigh...

  • Because I had a depressive episode, but I don't know the cause of it.

  • She was depressed because she is so fucking ugly and cruel.

  • Walnuts make my zaps go away.

  • ahah, l laughed and learned at the same time. Great vid.

  • I get brain zaps and sudden feeling of weakness a day or two before I get sick. This was a common experience all my life with my brother, who also gets them before being sick. So, It was surprising to me that the same phenomenon occurs when I stopped taking Zoloft. I'm currently taking Lexapro 20mg now, and I still get zaps if I forget to take the med for a couple of days.

I don't really have a problem with the withdrawal symptoms of SSRI's. They hardly effect me and are easy to ignore.

  • That's interesting that you got them before getting sick, I wonder if that happens to other people. It would make sense then for that to be a withdrawal symptom.

  • Well this is interesting, taking SSRIs with dextromethorphan is supposed to be a no-no right? Well a threshold dose of dextromethorphan causes nystagmus (eye twitching and going crosseyed/)... I wonder what that has to do with SSRI withdrawal symptoms include a "zapping" phenomenon that is triggered by eye movement. hmm..

  • How funny that you mention that. I found out about dxm when I was on luvox, and I found we had some in some cough syrup. I thought 'score!' but then someone said that mixing it with with SSRI = serotonin syndrome.

But yeah, interesting connection. Quiet a few drugs can cause nystagmus, I reckon that would set off the zaps like mad, not to mention add to the vertigo and derealization.

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've not experienced these or used SSRI's, but have known that people get the brain zaps/shivers. It's useful to hear someone's direct experience of them.

  • LOL i had those zaps for 11 weeks after going cold turkey off celexa. my GP thought i was making it up!! xD

  • Yeah, I've heard a few people post on different forums about doctors thinking they were making it up in the early days.

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, Prozac.. Because without them i would be emo.

  • lol :P

An SSRI a day keeps the my chemical romance away.

  • LMAO.

That was my FAVORITE side effect. ^__^

    /sarcasm

  • You are not funny. You are a pathetic evil bitch who tortures animals and you are ugly as sin.
