You missed the point completely, parents will love their kids regardless of the grade, its about instilling a sense of desire towards learning.

Obama used his kid as an example of what children can achieve when they set their own bar higher.

Just blame someone else for for your own failures, its not like you & your family never received affirmative actions, like voluntarily leaving for America to get a better life - they would been granted citizenship because of the color of their skin while the Chinese would be barred - affirmative action?

Or when they could just travel west and take indian land because they were white and the indians not - affirmative action?
