  • Good GRIEF, Frankie Thomas is gorgeous.

  • I'm amazed that in an age before international broadcasts they felt the need to write "offer good only in the US" in the Kraft Caramels commercial. Did they really think anyone from outside the US would even see the commercial??

  • I used to have a 78rp Victor 10" record of how Tiom Corbett got started. He enters the Space Academy and meets Astro -and also meets the truculent Manning. They start out rocky but soon prove their worth.

I still hum the space academy song that closed the story.

  • fuck corbett

  • Your advertisement pasted on the video ruins the originality of the video ....

  • iknow these shows came on in the 1950's but did they come on as a saturday morning show or prime time?

  • Tom Corbett for governor! He made a great District Attorney challenging healthcare. Let's promote him to governor of Pennsylvania.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne - "Our" Tom Corbett is a space cadet, too. Unfortunately, he beat the guy who actually reformed Pittsburgh's politics.

As Attorney General, Corbett did quite a bit of strictly political prosecutions, including only going after his opponents while his own party was never investigated.

He also subpoenaed Twitter for subscriber information on two account holders who made disparaging remarks about him, which is highly un-American. He wasted tax $ to fight health care.

  • This show used to bore me even when I was in the fifth grade. "Rocky Jones" was much better.

  • "Go blow your jets?" Such language! This is a family show!

  • I think I liked him better as Ted Nickerson (you know, from Nancy Drew)

  • Gee that ring and patch are sure swell.

  • One thing impressive was how they anticipated just how violent a take-off can be.

I think the Steve Holland Flash Gordons came later, and they also laid on their backs for take-off.

  • 61 here!

  • Hey...Lets all send in 25 cents and a Kraft caramel tab to the address and see what happens!

  • I sure could go for some of those delicious Kraft caramels right now...

  • ...aah, go blow yer jets!

  • What a classic

  • Remembering Richard McConnell & The Space Cadets

  • That Captain Strong is a bit of a topugh cookie!

  • This was during the 1954-'55 season, when Kraft Foods sponsored "TOM CORBETT" on NBC's Saturday morning schedule...

  • I believe T.J. (Jack Grimes) also did voices for cartoons. He voiced Sparky on "Speed Racer" among others.

  • No use looking for Cadet "Roger Manning" here with his violent temper and constant wisecracks because...he was only on radio it seems.

TJ is his replacement for TV. Well there were kids out there really watching and eating their "Pep" cereal.

  • actually Roger was on the show I have a dvd of an episode with him in it

  • Jan Merlin (Roger Manning) was on the teelvision series from the beginning in October, 1950, He left in 1954 the after the show concluded its Dumont network run and had a prolific career in Hollywood in films and on television. He was replaced for the final season of the show (on NBC) by Jack Grimes.

BTW, TOM CORBETT was the first television series to be seen on all four major networks: CBS, ABC, NBC and DuMont.

  • Swapsale is a treat to those of us who love the early days of SF & the visionary work being done then. I've purchased through Sawpsale of some early Corbett shows & was very pleased. Because of their very nature, these are almost impossible to find. Thank goodness for Swapsale & all those who dig through the past and bring it forward.

Very cool. Now I just want more posted. Consider them "teasers". LOL

  • Swapsale, don't ever stop hunting for these throughout the dusty kinescope archives. Your due diligence may score Polaris more than 20 points.

Thanks to you and guys like Ira Gallen, all our youth may survive us, to thrill, or gain appreciation amongst millenia kids everywhere.

  • hey you guys its cool to see i'm not the only one that loves tom corbett. do you guys know where i can see more of these videos. i've read the first two books but i'm havin a hard time getting the rest. i wish i could have seen these on tv their first run but when they were on TV my dad was younger than i am now. lol i'm 24 but i love 50's SCI-FI if you guys know where i can get more of these PLEASE let me know. thanks. =)

  • Yes, amazing what's out here on youtube. Thanks for this video. Hey, how old are the rest of you guys? I'm 63.

  • I'm 65.

    Spaceman's Luck!

  • i'm 17 doing a HISTORY project on the 1950's and its technology

  • There is a politician in PA (I think he's attorney general) named Tom Corbett. Wonder if his parents were fans of this show. Haha

  • Yes, Tom Corbett IS the name of the current Attorney General of PA, and, yes, I believe he has a sign in his office reading "TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADET". Sure hope he still has his official SPACE CADET ring. I DO !

  • Crazy ascots meets the "Grapes of Ganymede"

the largest Moon in the solar system. I was

    a Space Patrol fan myself.

  • What a treat to see Frankie Thomas, Al Markim and even (groan) Jack Grimes on YouTube!

  • This is amazeing, I just typed Tom Corbett for the heck of it. I watch this show in the early 50's and even went to see him when he came to our town. Almost 60 years ago, how did they get a copy of this, its so clear.
