no they didnt invent metal fusing! way to bust out your sherlock holmes hat and crack that case.....they invented friction stir welding, the process used here
@LottsaLasagna im not disputing the fact that it is a weld. that is obvious. the PROCESS used here to achieve the weld is new. just like when arc welders were INVENTED in the 1800's, they were an alternative to sticking metal into a fire and bashing it together. this is a different and new way to achieve a weld.
Was developed by TWI in England and does not skins together the two metals at molecular level. However, it produce very low residual stress and can join two different metals. It is a solid state welding technic as the metal doesn't melt. It IS an innovative welding for the prementioned reasons...
OK, I am newcomer in this welding technic, correct me if I am wrong ;-)
Fuckin Awesome! one more thinig to thank the aliens for!!!!

fusing metal has been used for centuries ..I doubt some institute in England invented it.

wouldnt "molecule stir welding" be a more appropriate name for it??

I wonder how joints created using this process will be for field repairs, and for non-destructive testing.

Friction Stir Welding was developed by The Welding Institute in England, not by Airbus.

Yes that is true, since I work for TWI. FSW was invented in 1991 by Wayne Thomas and the patent was filed in 1992.

that's that I thought as well. I didn't think Airbus invented this technique but rather another British institute.
