As long as the babies are well started, they should do fine if they are cared for correctly. Many times, people sell the froglets too young - all of the frogs we sell on the site are at least 2 months old - by this time, they are well started.
Keeping dart frogs is much more similar to keeping fish than reptiles - I've been keeping many different herps since I was 5, and treating a dart frog like most reptiles would lead to a quick demise. Research as much as you can before bringing frogs home
Are baby poison darfrogs harder to care for then adults? I want to have some dartfrogs but the babies always die so quick i feel like, and i do everything correct. Any tips? I have been keeping reptiles all my life no problem.
@TheGhostfacekilla86 Babies in the 2-3 month old range are typically just as easy to care for as adults. I would recommend you review how you care for them - keeping dart frogs is more like keeping fish than reptiles.
Lighting really depends on the variety of plants you use - frogs are perfectly happy without direct lighting. You want a clean daylight bulb, with a color temperature rating from 6500-6700K.
@Ileikdrumzz You want light in the 6500K spectrum. Lighting really depends more on the plants than the frogs - the frogs could care less if they have a light.
Can u get tropical plants like wondering jew and broms from like walmart a home depo plant section? And can I keep 3 or 4 dart frogs in a 18x18x24 terrarium ?and do they sell abg mix at like petsmart? And will a waterfall and a repti fogger provid enough humidity if I mist it once Ina while sorry for all the questions and plz reply I really need to know this stuff before I get them :) thanks in advance
An 8x8x12 tank is a little too small for a dart frog - it would be difficult to keep the proper temp/humidity stable in such a small area.
The name 'wandering jew' is in reference to the Jewish people's ability spread and prosper in almost any environment, as they have throughout history - this is one tough plant! I'm not sure who named it, though.
first off could i keep a dart frog in an 8x8x12 tank if i provide places to climb since they are tiny and second was that plant called wandering jew? who came up with that name
I am planning on buying a large set of items from your website, what would you recomend that I buy to have two dart frogs, I was thinking about skipping the background.. I've been looking for a list from an expert so I can swing this project into motion, maybe a list of what all you have in this video.
You also do not need T5 lighting to have a healthy enviroment for your new pet. Typical spiral bulbs 26 watt for an exo terra compact light fixture works great and YES it will grow true orchids
The lighting is dependent on the plants in the environment. Some plants require higher light output than the shop lights/spiral compacts for sustained long-term growth.
ohhhh PS you do not need to get glass cut for the tops of your enclosures. Press and seal from ziploc or glad with a metal mesh reptile top works perfectly fine without any danger to the animals I've kept multiple species like this without a single chemical or any other death besides old age. Don't be fooled with the chemical propaganda this is no issue just reverse the film to stick to the top and you're a OK.
I've never tried the press and seal before...thanks for sharing that! I'll have to give it a try (especially with the exo-terras that come with the screen tops).
want some so bad but the frogs are so pricey!

Actually like 5 Azerus froglets, also will Josh's frogs be at the reptile super show in Los Angeles next week????
joekolko43 2 months ago
@joekolko43 You would want a much larger tank than that for azureus, even a couple of them. We will not be at the show.
joshsfrogsvideos 2 months ago
Hi I was wondering if an Azerus would be ok in a 14 gallon verticle tank I built??
joekolko43 2 months ago
@joekolko43 they would do great! you could keep 2-3 of them!

What light do you need? someone please reply! Is there a ratio? Like planted tanks its 1 watt of light per gallon. Also what spectrum?

We do not - ants are not easy to culture, and can infest a home. The flightless fruit flies we culture and feed to our frogs cannot.

i want a poison dart frog but i want to know if u feed yurs ants
suppasolosis 5 months ago
@suppasolosis No, we feed ours flightless fruit flies.

mrleopardgecko100 6 months ago
@mrleopardgecko100 That would house 2-3 nicely.

That's quite a few questions - I'd recommend giving us a call at 1_800_691_8178 between 10am-4pm M-F and we can chat about dart frogs.

You need a better mic. I almost blew my speakers and ear drums when you pored the clay stones.

You do not have to use real plants, but they help manage the waste of the dart frogs, and keep the humidity up. They also look darn cool!

Can I put ivy in my tank
theairsoftsniper26 10 months ago
hey great vid helped alot :) but y do the frogs need leaf litter?
arachnoherp15 10 months ago
A properly setup terrarium will not need cleaning. Instead, regular misting with move feces to the substrate and the plants will utilize it.
We don't recommend mixing species. When they are sexually mature they tend to become aggressive towards frogs that don't look like them.
