  • So damn good Ryan, one of my fav Eva songs

  • the drunk donkey all the way lol

  • is that guy giving beer to a donkey?Jeez. But would be a line from a Ryan Adams song somehow.

  • Yes indeed! This is great. Ryan looks ace in this. That guy in the background, really getting into it is terrific. Hope I get back there again one day. Brilliant place. Having to fly back home to cold, wet weather was a really depressing episode....anyway, great vid :)

  • perfect

  • Wow, Ryan looks SO good here...<33

  • mayer is too pop..

  • @mrgeoovanni To me they're both too pop really. But most people contrasting ryan and john say Ryans a better songwriter. I have to pleasantly disagree. I tried RA many times over and it always seemed very..inauthentic and sorta like I was listening to a snobby, Apple using, starbucks playright, trust-fundee trying to be Claude Debussy (romantic) meets Edgard Varese (eclectic/avant garde).

  • @mrgeoovanni John, imo seems to have a real snarl to him. Not some implied or intentional faux pain or frustration with the world. John's songwriting seems to have a specific type of urgency to it. People who like RA seem to be attracted to the whole "Oooo hes a painful brooding musician..looks he's got a dirty v-neck shirt on! OOOooo!" Ryan to me appeals as sort of "housewife alt rock", where john has entered into a era of his career where he's become a highly respected musician in general.

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious Highly respected musician? The man is hated by any circles who know a thing about music. Mayer is a cookie cutter shape created for public consumption. You don't have to think while you're listening to him, and that's why he's popular amongst the dumber region of the public. It's very simple, very mundane, very run of the mill. He won't be remembered in ten years.

  • @jakeiverson57 Ahh c'mon, don't be a dickhead. I love Ryan Adams, but John Mayer is a good songwriter in his own right. Nothing complex, but a good songwriter. Listen to "3x5". Lovely song. nice natural imagery and atmosphere. Don't have to be breaking walls down to write a good song. It's a serene song about something as simple as enjoying the wonders of nature. That's enough for me, I like all types of songwriting. You call it "dumb", I call it the ability to locate beauty in simplicity.

  • @jakeiverson57 you hit the nail right smack bang in the middle of the head. Ryan Adams is a whole class above anyone

  • @garryt27 ...John Mayer was the youngest person ever inducted into the songwriters hall of fame. They're both great songwriters but have differentiating styles - not to mention genres. You're ignorant for saying that.

  • @thelettermusic

    I AGREE!

  • great video, thanks for posting!

  • coolest country i ever heard.

  • quite bob dylan-y :)

  • just noticed there hadnt been a comment in while thought id change that

  • I was that DONKEY...... Just let everybody nooooo i'm good........ Ryan was good, Bob was better..... He disappeared after 2 songs........ o_O

  • lovely song indeed. Too bad the guy in yellow tries to be the main musician. Would that have pissed Ryan off?

  • Who cares?

  • well, obviously not you :) I'm a musician myself, so I was wondering.

  • No this was on the music in high places series. He went there an sat around played with a bunch of locals it was an awesome show and this song is pretty much the last one they did and not the best one

  • @kammsterdam

dude he is playing guitar with his buds who are singing his song with him and he is on a lovely beach... he isn't pissed off

  • I love that the guy getting his donkey drunk is also dancing like a pro.

  • best comment this year so far xD

  • awesome!!

  • The guy in the back is making his donkey drunk =P

  • he looks a little wild on that one :D but it's cool.

  • LOL @ the guy in the background x)

  • What the hell is doing at Cedar Lake?

  • 1 min 20 sec...... BRILLIANT!

  • THIS IS AMAZING

    love it x

  • what the hell is the guy doing in the background? @_@

  • Comment removed

  • she is so hot!!! wow!! Z

  • brilliant version ov this track

    like a dylan desire moment

    really dig ryans music

    rock on

  • lucky mosquito...

  • This is a great song, and I like Jamaican music a lot, but this was just a really harebrained idea and it is not as good as the original

  • Next time I get stoned this is what I want to be doing

  • that guy dancing in the background cracks me up

  • This is really odd. I mean I like Ryan Adams and I think this sounds cool with the hand drumming. But why is he singing this song on a beach in Jamaica with Jamaican drummers sitting in? Just seems really... out of place.

  • there was a whole series like this. They would have artists perform in all different locations. It was really cool, I remember Collective Soul ended up having a great show, and there were a ton recorded and released on DVD. I think they were trying to bring good music to new places, and then hopefully have these artists experience something special.

  • A comment and a question.

First of all I think this version blows the album version out of the water. I love the song but the sax solo on the album version always seemed so out of place and corny to me.

Now, soundwise how are they getting such good balance? I am assuming that this was an unplugged show but none of the acoustic bass guitars I have ever played could stand up against two guitars, vocals, and like four drummers.

  • Just laughing at you guys arguing over Mayer's vs Adams's songwriting. Neither of them would so much as hold a candle to Josh Ritter. Don't get me wrong they're both enjoyable in their own way, but if Adams is "Hall of Fame", that would well and truly put Ritter in the stratosphere...

  • You are dead on about Ritter. I love Ryan Adams, but Josh Ritter is by far the best contemporary songwriter out there.

  • I'll agree that while both Ryan Adams & John Mayer deserve note and that Josh Ritter is pretty fricking awesomw too but there are people who put them to shame in an embarassing fashion, folk wise alone there's T.V Smith, James Taylor and my pesonal favorite, Nick Drake, mind boggling tunings, amazing prhasing, great voice and shear beauty.

  • Cosmonaut, I fully agree about the above three, and they may well be ahead of Ritter in the musical stakes, but if you're trying to tell me that either of them has ever written a song to match Ritter's Thin Blue Flame, To The Dogs or Whoever, Wings (I could go on and on), you're on another planet. The man would be a widely published poet were he not a singer, and trust me there is nobody alive or dead who would "embarrass" his songwriting. And yes I include Dylan and Leonard Cohen in that.

  • Now this is my kind of argument. I enjoy all three of them but on songwriting alone I gotta give it to Ritter

  • Josh Ritter,Wasn`t that guy on Threes Company???

  • ryan and mayer own ritter in every way.

  • It's all about favorites and Ryan would be mine. There is no best...it's not statistics driven like sport, it's art. regards. Tw

  • jOHN FUCKIN MAYER come on he shouldnt even be mentioned IN THE SAME SENTENCE with Ryan. When it comes to songwriting Ryan is in the HALL OF FAME and Mayer is still riding the bench.

  • Thank you.

  • @garryt37 i agree john mayer isnt even in the same ball park fuck he aint even playin the same gamelol

  • Nice to see these motion picture in the winters of Germany.

  • I wonder how much he had to pay the black guys to act like they gave a shit.

  • haha good question

  • Mayer and Adams are two very different things. Comparing them is pointless because they are both VERY good at what they do. Am I right?

  • maybe so, but Ryan's better lol

  • I put Adams way, way above John Mayer. Like they're a different species.

  • same here.

although they are both completely different genres and music... so comparing them is totally stupid!

  • word up...just enjoy the music.

  • yes, yes. totally agree. And I may ad that I adore john mayer, but Adams moves me more consistantly and honestly

  • what has he got on his hat...?hahahah...anyway he's still good!!XD

  • Is John M in the side?

  • Ha ha ha ha!!! Mayer is the biggest pile of garbage ever.. Ryan is better at everything than him.. Anyone who thinks different is fucking stupid..

  • true, mayer sucks big time. Don't even try comparing great artist to poppy fags.

  • i will admit i like adams more when it comes to his voice and songwriting abilities but you have got to be kidding me if you think that ryan adams is a better guitarist. if john mayer was a bad guitarist he wouldnt be invited to play with people like buddy guy, bb king, and eric clapton all the time. Thats one thing that mayer has on adams

  • Thanks for the comment, I think you are right. I didn't know Mayer was invited to play with great guitarist.

  • i dont really like the comparison os mayer and adams. i can understand why its drawn, but they come from so vastly different experiences and have fundamentally different sounds. i mean, Adams, *screams* Bob Dylan. and you're right, its his songwriting that shines the most, mayer OTOH is more in line with the clapton approach, and more textbook "clean" musically.

  • hes better at everything except Mayer is by far a better guitarist...but that is not to say Adams is a bad one.

  • Both Adams and Mayer are great artists, but let's not pretend they can be compared. They have two totally seperate styles. Adams does old country and Mayer does blues with a splash of pop.

  • Ryan doe sold country ?? WTF ??

  • "i got bit by a mosquito while we were playin i was going: gawd!"

    hehe

  • Estas colgado, pero eres un puto crack ryan!

  • i didnt understand that, but i understand puto, and ryan, so u dont like ryan rattle?

  • ehh.. whys he singing it so weird.

  • John Mayer is a better guitar player.

But I think Ryan Adams is a better song writer.

  • i guess i could agree with that ( in a way ).. john mayers a real talented dude and all .. but as far as lyrics and his vocal sound .. ryan adams takes the win ..

  • john mayer sucks so many cocks its not even funny he is shit

  • you speak the truth wise man. john mayer is as lame as it gets.

  • Uhhh...John Mayer's a brilliant musician. L2listen.

  • DON'T EVER USE THE WORDS JOHN MAYER AND BRILLIANT IN THE SAME SENTENCE. You don't know freaking music if you think john mayer is even considered a musician. The radio doesn't equal good music you idiot. Go out to your local record store not called best buy and look in the indie section and start there

  • My god, people like you get me mad. Try checking out anything by John mayer that isn't top 40 and you'll see some good stuff. John Mayer is a "brilliant" musician, listen to his stuff he plays with the trio. All of the stuff you hear on the radio is stuff that his label forces him to put out, if you see him in concert he rarely ever plays "daughters," heck I've heard that he originally wrote that tune as an acoustic blues song, but then he was forced to produce it. He doesn't even like it!

  • What are 12 years old. Open your ears and listen to what he is singing about. John Mayer wants to be famous and write catchy music. He isn't writing music for the sake of music. Go back to liking the new kids on the block!!!

  • Ever listen to John Mayer Trio? No, that's what I thought.

Listen to the guitar he plays, check out like a piece like "Neon" and try and tell me that he isn't writing music for the sake of writing music.

  • mayer can write great guitar pieces, i just dont feel like his lyrics have any substance.

  • yeah mayer mixes it up, but he does have some songs that are just too poppy and played out for me. like that daughters/fathers song, geez.

  • yeah and ryan plays in about five or six too. what are you on drugs? keep your ignorant remarks to yourself.

  • Ha I love what he's wearing on his head.

  • way to explore other kinds of music. Before dismissing him why don't you check out one of his 9 albums and maybe some live stuff. BTW there is also going to be a 200 song box set. Know before you dismiss....I also am a PJ, Radiohead and Soundgarden fan

  • guitar*

  • both are talented songwriters , but it obvious john mayer is more skilled guit wise

  • You can't really compare John Mayer and Ryan Adams, they're both masters on what they're doing but I like Ryan more^^

  • I love his music, John Mayer is better though.

  • Amnesiac is very rock-and-roll.

  • I really wish I could hang out, play music, and sing with him he's beautiful and his music has the right substance for this Kentucky girl.

  • Ryan Adams' music is sexy, fresh, original, and rythmic. This is coming from someone who knows appreciation for artists and how hard it is to write music, and then play and sing at the same time not to mention incorporating the harmonica. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized he was young and gorgeous. I have been listening for awhile now and assumed he was older due to the quality of his music. I think I found a new crush, he could sing to me anytime!

  • Yeah he has an old sould for music. My boyfriend's sister said the same thing when I played the music then I showed her some Pix - she was like wow he's cute.

  • As opposed to the nasal screeching of Chris Cornell?

  • To each his own. Enjoy your James Blunt CD's.

  • how did they record that ?

    is it really live ?

  • haahha the best is the guy feeding the donkey a beer

  • observe the guy in the pea green top..behind ryan. he is funny.

  • ryan adams. have my babies.

  • oh ryan you rock babyy! xD

    the donkey's badass! xD

  • Ur a douchebag u freak.

  • Douche-bags are hygenic products, I'm sure he'd take that as a compliment!

  • Hmm, judging by what he's got on his head I'd wager he was on *something* at the time ;o)

  • yeah, I'm chillin here in Jamaica, on the wonderful green island. easey livin, come on over - this song fits perfect into feeling&motion , though it is about new york, what the matter

  • This rules

  • hahahey man i luv this video!

    sweeeeet

  • This could be an ad for NAFTA. Nevertheless, I love it all the same.

  • 2002 winter from mtv music in high places

  • It was on the "Live in Jamaica" DVD from 2001 or 2002.

  • was this recent?

  • Shortly after the release of his "Demolition" album. Late 2002, early 2003 I think.

  • 2001.
