  • So fucking funny

  • I love how he talks thru the wrong end of the phone at one point.

  • I loved it when Senor came on the show! He was so cool!

  • Ahhh. I'm in the good part of Youtube again.

  • actually, febrary 13, 1966. same show as rolling stones.

  • S'awriiight!

  • check out this site to give you advice super motivating.

the advice is as entertaining as oprah ellen:

  • Thx for the post! As a child I loved watching him on the Ed Sullivan show.

  • clearly a big influence on jim gaffigan. they're both brilliant and hilarious.

  • Just to mention some other naked emperors that are nothing special in an absolute sense, but 'at the time they seemed marvelous' - Citizen Kane (the movie) and Fred Astair (the dancer). If you compare Citizen Kane to actually good movies with interesting plots and immersive atmosphere, it comes off as just a boring, old movie with a plot that goes nowhere. When you compare Fred Astair to mediocre martial artists, he doesn't do anything they couldn't do. If you compare him to Bruce Lee..well..

  • @Gmoooba : Be quiet.

  • @Gmoooba

Ahhh. Spoken like a true naked emperor himself. Bless your little heart...............

  • There are so many naked emperors in the world. People remember something that seemed fabulous when they were a kid, and let their nostalgy convince them it's better than it actually is. Anyone who doesn't have that nostalgy, fails to see the mystique and praise built around these people. This performance was pretty dull, consisting mostly of "yes" and "no", instead of having more lenghty dialogues that would actually go somewhere. As far as voice - watch Beardyman and Wences ceases to impress.

  • Senor Wences was excellent. He was also 103 when he died. Thank you for uploading this.

  • y decir que es el tío de Jose Luis Moreno

  • MITCH CONNER !!!!!!

  • Great post!!!!! Thank You.

  • Around that time, Senor Wences also provided the soundtrack for a "Raid" commerical with "Johnny"- {door knocking} JOHNNY: Yes? WENCES: What DO bugs like? JOHNNY: Sugar, and spice, and everything nice. WENCES: That's right... {door knocks again} JOHNNY: Yes? WENCES: What DO bugs do? JOHNNY: We....we HIDE! WENCES: WHY do you hide? JOHNNY: Raid is here! BUGS: RA-I-I-I-I-ID!!!!!
  • Classic television

  • Genial !!! aún teniendo un tiempo estos vídeos, son realmente una muestra de grandes artistas... superrrr !!

  • i remember the skits had such an effect on us that during recess, fellow schoolmates were drawing the eyes & lip out line on our hands - to a dot.But ,making the puppets utter the filthiest things we could think of- considering it was the 4th grade mid 1960's

  • Wow, this is so great! Señor Wences was one of my favorites on Ed's show when I was a kid. I even have the 1961 45-rpm record that has "Deefeecult For You, Easy For Me" one side, and "S-All Right? S-All Right!" on the other.

The audience didn't care that you could see his lips move. We liked his silliness. I mean, seriously, a talking head in a box?

  • hah George said this show was terrifying...his fears man..

  • the ventriliquism itself sucks, but the characters and jokes are absolutely adorable. plus, he throws his voice amazingly!

  • Love this. Family never missed Ed Sullivan show when I was a child. This is something that one cannot "ponder" or the humor is spoiled. We thought it was hilarious, and I can still see my dad laughing.

  • 3:25 video: Señor Wences on The Ed Sullivan Show, March 20, 1966.

Wenceslao Moreno (April 17, 1896 – April 20, 1999), better known as Señor Wences.

  • My name is mister WENTHES.... Spanish indeed

  • I still say when you think about it, a head in a box. Weird. LOL

    I always watched him.

  • Worst ever. His lips move more than mine do when im talking.

  • @Tancred104 I doubt that

  • @Tancred104 YOU WATCHED THAT WHOLE ROUTINE....AND FOCUSED ON HIS LIPS MOVING?????? YOU NEEDTO HAVE A FUNERAL FOR YOUR INNER CHILD....................

  • what is amazing about Senior, you would watch his lips moving-but the routines were so cute, who cared???

  • The dialogue between Johnny and Cecilia from 1:11 to 1:19 is hilarious. His humor is brilliant.

  • He was funny with "SAW-RIGHT"

  • tough crowd

  • tough croud

  • He was always great.

  • What a wonderful entertainer - I remember seeing him on Ed Sullivan - Thank goodness we have these clips to share - thanks

  • My 5th grade students were shown this clip of Senor Wences after we had read a passage about the art of ventriloquism. My students loved it! They wanted to see more of him mostly because of his skill to quickly change his voice - especially of Pedro (s'alright!). This master of the art of ventriloquism and his performances are ageless!

  • He is, who I would consider, the greatest vent of all time.

  • What nostalgia you have shared. As a kid I watched him perform on the Ed Sullivan Show, and after watching Senor Wences for the first time, I couldn't wait to see him again. The "it's all right" man in the box still cracks me up. Though he performed many years ago, I would be willing to bet that the kids of this generation would enjoy him just as much. Thanks for sharing!

  • @coachrv30 You are so right, it would be great if someone would follow in senor wences's tracks for the generation of kids now. I think there is a lady who is doing some of this type of ventriloquism, but I forget her name. I had a boss who could make you think that a cat was outside of your house yowling at the door and windows. Lots of fun.

  • so this is where matt and trey parker got the idea for "taco flavored kissies"

  • Ventriloquism is similar to religion. As a child it fools you and when you grow older the disappointment sets in when realisation occurs.

  • @RJiminez51

You dont have to tell us about yourself, have some dignity bitch,

  • @RJiminez51 c`mon its a joke

  • taco flavoured kisses!

  • Two or three? Seven! XD

  • Thanks for sharing..I remember watching this guy in the early sixties on the ES show. When TV allowed entertainers on and paid them..Not like today with goofy so called reality shows which cost nothing to produce and has a nation of morons watching goofy wannabees pretend to be real.....

  • taco flavored kisses

  • That phone voice is awesome.

  • I'm 19 and I've only found him now! This man is brilliant!

  • Such memories...Thank you so much..He is still funny...RIP Senor,God Bless!

  • s'alright

  • Senor Wences was a great entertainer - how refreshing to see an act that is brilliant in its simplicity.

  • He's STILL cracking me up in these old videos.

  • hes hella dope !

  • Just goes to show you how our standards have changed. If he had presented this act on one of the talent shows, he would have been buzzed off the show after the first 30 seconds. He moves his lips!

  • Genius! True genius!!

  • Obama and Calderon. LOL

  • When you think about it- a head in a box?? Weird. Ha Ha

This is so funny and he was so talented. S'Allright!

  • Comic genius with an incredible sense of timing. He was without comparison one of the most entertaining performers on Ed Sullivan's show. I never grew tired of the Master and his brilliant routines.

  • @rr7firefly

Senor Wences was a pretty routine ventriloquist until one day on the road, there was an accident and his dummy was seriously damaged. The only way he could correct the situation in time for his next show was to come up with Pedro... the head in the box.

So a potentially career-threatening accident turned into a classic routine. Took the lemon life handed him and made it into lemonade. THAT is the definition of genius. :)

  • This is brilliant. How do you write something like this?

  • how the heck is he a ventriloquist his lips move.... constantly??!!

  • Senor Wences appeared 23 times on Ed's program (including Elvis Presley's second appearance on the show, in October 1956); he was one of Sullivan's "evergreen" performers [going as far back as being part of several of his charity benefit shows during World War II], and could always be counted on to "entertain the family" at home (and in the studio) inbetween the "bigger acts" to follow...

  • The guy in the box cracks me up!

  • Shows you don't need any fancy stuff...just imagination, a heart, and a hand...Wences was one of a kind...

  • They don't make them like they used to...

  • 1:34 ha ha

  • 1966.... the best time in the 20th century to be a kid.

  • Interesting that he is bizarre and funny, but they almost never laughed. They must have been spellbound.

  • Everyone was mesmerized.

  • That was great. I wonder if the kids of today would appreciate him like we did back then.

  • @lasktguy Im 19, and my little brother is 8 and we abseloutly LOVE him!

  • alwaystvxq08, I am really glad to hear that. I know things are supposed to be more modern and hip and cool but simple things can be fun too. We hadn't even heard of computers when I was a kid and we had lots of fun back then.

  • @lasktguy I agree with everything you wrote. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and grow up then. Everything is so artificial now-a-days. Gotta love keeping things simple ;)

  • SAW RIGHT; SAW RIGHT! Priceless..

  • @robphilll Immortal!

  • OOhhh he was born in my city.

  • Another wonderful memory

  • Funny his mouth only moves when he makes the bird talk.

  • Senor Wences was the best ventriloquist ever. His amazing skill and humor still amazes me today. I love the way he changes tones depending on if Pedro's box door is open or closed , lol.

  • As you can tell by my "name", I am a BIG fan of the great Senor Wences! Met him once. A TRULY kind & humble man! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Shame on the naysayers, this is some serious skill. The bit with the phone voice is amazing.

  • word! i could not believe how good the phone bit sounded, i thought it was a recording for sure at first, awesome talent right there.

  • times, how they change! this was considered family entertainment in the 60's! not on a par with the stuff of today - lord, take me back to the 60's!!

  • I loved this as a child.Such a wonderful Show and I love this man.Great clean entertainment.

  • This guy cracked me up when i was a lil kid :-) Thanks for posting!!!

  • @Screenman5 Me too but as a 6-year-old that head-in-the-box freaked me out.
