  • Craig Henderson

Gone but not forgotten, this guy left such a legacy (especially in Benidorm)

  • I was fortunate to see,and meet this great man in concert,i also have a sighed copy of his LP and EP, i still listen to his music every chance i get.

  • I'm from Liverpool and we really appreciate great singers. I used to see him at every opportunity and whenever he played Southport I would be there to see David, but also Penny and Googie.

Every time I go to the slate mines my thoughts turn to working man. I DO think he sings it with feelings as he spent time down the mine whereas I don't think Rita McNeil did.

I am 70 but will never forget the first time the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I heard David sing.

    Wonderful singer.

  • brings back so many amazing memories of my grandad so glad i found this .

  • David's wife is running their own web page; brilliant.

  • David never got the credit he deserved :-( where as tom jones got the break :-)

To me the both are like peas in a pod, twins, both unique! RIP davie!

  • Perhaps not quite as emotional as Rita Macneils rendition, but a great singer all the same and a great song. RIP

  • R.I.P. David... great to come on hear and listen to you sing. and also a great pleasure working with you when you worked at MFM/Marcher studios god bless.

  • not all men in wales worked in the mines! my uncle will meaden did . but my dad denis compton worked in the steelworks in ebbw vale gwent. and suffered lots of

accidents there. falling in a vat of costic soda, losing all his skin. I remember him

in agony fof months.every time Ilisten to this song I REMEMBER HIM with love and admiration !! bless all our past and present welshmen who have gone dying while

earning a living to support thier famileys . CYMRU FOR EVER !

    And 75% have`nt worked since.,Their colliery closed.

It`s a pity about the men, that went before them.

  • I work in a miners welfare rhese men are true hero's dont know how they did it day in day out God Bless them all

  • WAS A GREAT SINGER R.I.P DAVID

  • M y grandfother was a miner in the maerdy colliery in the rhondda and i am blessed that my father didn't have to endure the harsh conditions the mines had to offer . had it not been for miners i wonder what state the people of the uk would have been in today. At A TIME WHEN ECONOMIC PROSPERITY RELIIED ON MINING I FEEL WE SHOULD ALL BE THANKFULL. I HAVE NO STORIES TO PASS ON AS SADLY I WAS TOO YOUNG TOO REALISE THE IUMPORTANCE OF ANYTHING MY GRANDFATHER HAD TO SAY BEFORE HE DIED.

  • this song reminds me of my uncle bill from wideopen newcastle a miner all his life r. i. p

  • I remember going to see David's concerts whenever he was in stoke on trent, a truly brilliant singer and if memory severs me well his wife had a puppet and his daughter also sang with him. A real sad loss, thaks for uploading this.

  • WHAT A VOICE!!! man....never heard this before. i heard tom jones singing this a couple of years here in germany on a concert....unbelievable david never gained the same fame as sir tom.

  • Thanks for the message, I did know he died in 1995, what I meant to imply was, that his C.D. was played in most music shops in Benidorm..

  • thisman is one of the welsh greats know to 40 but we always back a good singer

  • Just come back from Benidorm. This singer was played everywhere.. I got the C.D,, He had a great voice, which would stand comparison to Sir Tom.

  • sorry to tell you hes dead

  • u cant compare a club singer to sir tom. he doesnt even come close

  • much better tom couldnt

  • He isnt crap when his songs hold cultural value...

  • David Alexander needed a better/wider choice of songs and he needed to take more risks with the arrangements.

  • why do some people become famous and most don't .David alexaner had the voice to oblitterate more or less every singer on the planet but remained relatively unknown. After death he is becoming more popular and will only increase with demand.I do hope he becomes a truly superstar which he deserves even after his passing.

  • BionicFrankBallonhead

  • Ah, this is bliss, I was on a train once, to Cardiff? apparently the lads with me reckon he along with his manager had talked to me, I though was a bit worse for wear, mind you I gave a good rendering of military songs, though not my voice. he had a good life, David will always be the gentleman in my eye's ,even though I can't remember too much about the incident, other than what I was told..........sigh "nos dda boyo" thanks for them memories. (an ex soldier)

  • He has got talent, the 1st time i heard this i cryed David i wish you were still here to sing, everyone misses you.

  • Hello Me Again

  • Wow that's a voice!!!! Don't go a bundle on the material (even though I'm Welsh) but when he hits those high notes - he's fantastic.

  • Don't go a bundle on the material- wtf

  • One of the best voices I have ever heared.

  • anyone know how to get come home rhondda boy by david on utube ,pleeeezze

  • Big respect to David Alexander and all the miners of Wales who made it the great nation it is today and who make me proud to be a Welshman.

  • Oh yeah and RESPECT TO ALL EX MINERS! Im a youngster (And I "Dont know im born" Blah blah blah) but I understand that you all had such a hard time in times where job's were many but options few. I work myself part time andi find my 9 hour shifts and 7 hour college days hard and tireing, i cant imagine the hardships you hero's endured. Respect and respect and R.IP to all tose brave people who died in minnign disasters.

  • TOSE, R,IP:- do you mean R.I.P. and THOSE, what about, MINNIGN, Surely you mean MINING, have you never heard of "spelling" and checking before sending???????

  • Though bred in Austraila he was born in Wales and was a true Welsh man. Walse's favorite singer and son. Paul Child and Tom Jones are ok but to be honest this man runs rings around them! This coming from a welsh teen (18) who's into rock and metal. I love David, a true legend! Rita's song, she did it well but this is my favorite version by far. The only thing about this song is that it puts Thatcher ina good light and Wales kinda hates Thatcher lol

  • With you all the way there Buddy.

  • Pity you cannot spell, I think your a "vocalist" you should take up spelling lessons, You IDIOT

  • still a hell of a song, sung by a much missed singer, taken before his time, this concert,i think, was recorded in the market town of MOLD IN NORTH WALES UK,at the THEARTE CLWYD.

I had the pleasure of seeing David sing in my local night spots, also i belive i drank with him in my local,The Red Lion Northop,Nr Mold.

A legacy left behind is this `working mans`vocals thanks for putting them on here, where they shall remain in my mind as pure talented entertainment from a great guy.

  • what an awesome song! Cant beat David Alexander

  • R.I.P. David....a beautiful voice...you sang from your heart...truly missed, especially this song - gets me every time

  • This song has a place in my heart and soul but only when its sung by this man, David Alexander.

  • gives you a lump in your throat if it doesnt there is summat wrong wit ya great song

  • This might not have been David's song originally but he made it his own.

  • David made all his songs his own ;) A truly gifted and missed individual R.I.P David :)

  • i am from ireland ware good sigers come from david and tom jones make wales proud

  • i sang this in cheryls his neices pub the oakdale hotel and the punters had lumps in their throats .....GOD BLESS DAVID!!!

  • MAKES U PROUD TO BE WELSH.

  • We played this song for my uncle gareth dodd at his funeral today - only 61 years old, my aunty said 'you could take gareth out of the pit but not the pit out of gareth'. This was his song, sung from his heart - my aunty sang along proudly with every word today. Rest In Peace Doddy x

  • This song makes me cry every time I hear David Alexander sing it. I'm a Welsh girl and like most people from Wales am very proud. Can't listen wihout crying though!!

  • i love this song its so true

  • I grew up listening to this legend of a singer David Alexander as my recently deceased grandfather loved listening to him, im now 21 an i know nearly all of his songs.... If his widdow ever reads this, i just want to say i think your husband had a magnificat voice so effortless, u were married to a true star... and respect is deserved..... XxX

  • when i die the only song i want played is this one.

  • First heard Working Man on a community radio station called Curtin FM 100.1. Living in a mining town for 25 years with a husband and son in mining, I really related to this song.OliverMerry

  • I had never heard of David, until my friend, guided me to this video. A wonderful singer, a very moving song.

    Thank you,

  • david alexander is a true legend, god bless you. listen to his wife sing "if heaven had a phone" it is very touching

  • HI

  • That high note..."if I ever see the sunnnn"

that makes my hair stand on end. so effortless.

I was privillaged to see David perform at the Swansea Grand Theatre about a year before he died.

Miss him loads, but his songs are played every week at home, a true talent.

  • Shut up idiot. Your talking to a vocalist.

  • thank you for this i love this guy lush

  • Babenewport, it is a shame that people like you weren't supporting David when he was alive. Paul Child carries on where David sadly left off with the full support and encouragement of David's family. You should go to one Paul's concerts with the orchestra and choir - I am sure that you would be as thrilled as David's brothers are.

  • this man is a much better singer than paul childs. david always sang with great passion

  • My father was a miner and he died because of the coal dust. Miners are a race apart. I do so admire their bravery. Thank God I was saved from going underground! Great song - great performance. Thank you.
