  • Not sure if it was dodgy or not, I might have just been unlucky - or lucky it wasn't in the air... The solo prop is a pretty good match for the wooden one you have, so it will be asking a lot, but don't eggmotors theoretically have a similar hp to solo 210's, though obviously very different animals being fourstroke and so on?

  • @weirwolfarroo Current power is similar to solo but not sure where the peak power rpm is. Defo worth a shot though Tom.

  • I'm going to try out my full size solo 210 prop directly on the shaft- a move precipitated by the disintegration of my 34" Born prop under power this evening! No idea why it split but it probably means I'll have to start bugging Xoar for a prop- what were the magic words you used to get them to let you order one?

  • @weirwolfarroo Hello, Did you have a prop plate fitted to evenly distribute the bolt loading over the prop hub section? A while ago someone fitted a large prop to a gx200 prototype and used only washers, it dramatically failed (I've pictures somewhere). If not I can send you one in the post, it's the same as I use. There are two 36x10 Xoar props on ebay at the moment (plus hubs) with 3 days left to run. Buy-it-now £120 or start bidding at £50. Hope this helps, Rob. p.s. sorry to hear about prop.

  • @weirwolfarroo It split alongone of its blades, rather than in the middle, - the middle is nicely protected with one of your patented prop plates already! I'll have a look at the Xoar props right now...

If the big prop works I'll post the results.

  • @weirwolfarroo Hi Tom, I forgot I'd sent you a plate :o) Seems weird to split like that, do you suspect dodgy manufacture? What diameter and pitch is the Solo prop? Good luck if you bid on the Xoar props. Rob.

  • It sounds as if the motor has more to give - do you think a three bladed prop might work, or why not try the old prop and the new one both together?

  • @weirwolfarroo Hiya Tom, I bet if I'd have turned left away from the trees instead of gingerly heading for the 2nd field then I would have climbed out ok :o)

Although 3 and 4 blades are probably more efficient, the drop in rpm and consequently the resulting lack of power would be too great to overcome I think.

I've still got the milled head and/or bored/larger carburettor options to try before I start pulling more hair out ;o)

    Cheers,

    Rob.

    How's your Egg doing matey?
