The stacking of these split logs is exactly the way to stack bricks to store. When bricks have to be moved maybe to a place nearer the build than they were delivered, stacking them like this with the ends slights raised and criss-crossed. This is easy with most bricks as they are standard but 'hand-made' sometimes vary. Stack on a scaffold-board with a this bat or a piece of 1" x 1" lathes. Crossing the ends as above locks the ends of the bricks, to stop them falling.
one of the myths of "dry wood" is that it must have big cracks in it and dramatically change color. This is false. For example, I've had a few pieces in my dry basement (there is no water/high humidity/mold/etc) for over 9 months. Looks the same as the day I brought it in....it is plenty dry. One way to tell if wood is dry is to re-split a piece, then get a sliver from the inside and burn an end. If it is too wet, you will see water boil out of it near the flame on the unburned side.

Great video, a lot of people don't have a clue how to stack wood properly. You describe it well, it is partly an art.
