@TheFordMan888 not sure,i used toyota disc brakes,pre au falcons have a big centre hub and can be a pain to get wheels for..with a bit of engineering you can pretty much get anything to work.
@TheFordMan888 yeah i changed mine from original to disc,toyota was the easiest option for me,but falcon probably has a bigger disc/caliper and will probably have better stopping power.if you have a ford setup you may aswell try it

@TheMaxx111 no real story,loved ramblers for years,they are probaby the most underrated american car in nz,so you can get them pretty cheap.and thats where i saw my opportunity to do something a little different,i had always respected the power and drivability of the skyline engine,and just so happened that around the time i bought the rambler,the engine came up for sale at a reasonable price.ive got to upload some new vids,these ones are pretty old.
I wish the rest of the world was as non political as this car. If only you had a German transmission and a French suspension with some Italian body mods lol.

Follow on to below. Plus when the AMC 6 was designed in the '60s there where OHC versions built and run on test. Production was shelved due to the extra costs for machining lines.
Well, I'm glad if you did an engine swap you at least kept a 6 cylinder. It's too bad nobody ever did a really nice flowing cross flow head for the AMC six. Most people don't know it but the AMC 6 and the Chevy small block have a lot of things that are similar in terms of engine geometry. Bore spacing is .005" different. Deck hieghts fall into the small block range as do rod lengths and piston heights. In the '90s they were actually looking at a 4 valve head for the 4.0

Somthing like a Fikse Profil 13, OZ Superleggera III, CCW LM20, that sort of thing. Big diameter 2 or 3 piece forged wheels with a contrasting center and a polished lip. Unlike the other guys I'm fine with the diameter and tire profile, I just think the design of the wheel doesn't work with that particular car. Something racy looking would work better, especially if you had some 330+ mm brakes behind them.
I like it overall. If you built it, you did a great job.
@cmccarthy there were other factors in choosing these wheels,which to some may not seem important,but i can say really pushed me in the direction the car has gone..

@SteveASuper i didnt do ALL the work,im not a panel beater/painter/fabricator/mechanic.
i bought the car as a rolling body in rough original condition..i did the suspension work,bare metalled the car,fully stripped interior/exterior,and some interior work(upholstery etc) and put it all back together after paint myself,but the chroming,fabrication,panel and paint,90% of upholstery and wiring were all done by professionals...
Okies, cool. Had some thoughts on the wheels/tires. Have you thought about a satin finish on the center section with the lips/rim portion going with a brushed aluminum look? Think also if the tires were in the 45% to 50% aspect ratioThey'd look better from the side view and would set a nice ratio between- opening, rubber, and wheel. Sharp ride.

i have had about 7 variations of wheels on this,15s with a 60 profile,17s with a 45 profile,18s with a 40 profile,20s with 40profile,black,silver etc..im interested in rim not tyre,my personal opinion is that tyres are expendable,they are a throw away item.i hate the old school big tyre look and you cant fit 20s with 45 ratio on a car this low.this turns heads,hate or love it.it isnt like everyone elses with the same ideas as you

hi,yeah still have it,just did some more work on the rear geometry to make it a bit more positive on the road,but is pretty much the same,have got chrome half moons on the headlights, black front indicators,black tail lights and 35% mirror tints now.cheers

@jhaze918 cheers man,yeah its all pretty much custom,with the bigger engine bay i could get away with having things on different angles or larger than the usual.only running 12psi,and making 366hp at the wheels..might upload a new vid soon,its now got black tail lights,chrome eyelids and mirror tints.

Thanks for the honest answer. Yes it is just my own opinon & it's your car, so you can do what ever you want. I have seen these cars since the 60's. I prefer original colors, such as Blue,Red, Black or Silver. The original designers worked a long time time on selecting proper colors for the body style, they always had soft/subtle colors. Find an original sales flyer and look at the color choices. My opinion is this color does not go well on any vehicle, it is just to bright.
i guess thats just two different schools of thought,but i see how some will say its too bright,just as i feel the original colours were too weak,and considering what i did overall,a subtle colour wouldnt have suited the direction i went..the designers were working with what was available in 1966,and trends etc that were popular,i rebuilt it in 2005,and followed the same..i could have painted it a standard colour,but then it would have looked like just a nice original paint job.cheers

@fishhed01 nice AMC but whats up with the jap motor? theres plenty of 360 n401 out there. shit they even sell AMC crate motors 840 hp sroked out 401.not my choice of motor,but its not my car.I love AMC.cool half breed. i would like it more if it hade the287, 327 V8 in it that AMC put in those cars.
@AMXBOY73 ,whats up with the jap motor is about doing something other than what everyone else would have done...this originally was a 232 six,and v8 versions are not too common...and on top of that i generally dont rate v8s any way..plus the bonus of having plenty of off the shelf upgrades at decent prices,fuel injection,and added power via turbo,...how much would your 840 hp crate engine set you back money wise??
@fishhed01 840hp AMC crate motor would set you back a easy 18K N those cars did come with v8 in them stock it was the first verson of the AMC V8 the 287 n the AMC 327 n in the stock trim were throwing out 280hp not bad.what was the total cost of buying the jap motor rebuiling it n making the brackets to mount it. just asked y. what kind of psi are you throwing out?

the standard engine cost me 2k,plus the new turbo,wastegate,manifolds,throttle body,intercooler and fabrication etc etc,around 10k all up
its only boosting 12psi,with standard internals and injectors and makes 366hp at the wheels..and i get the bonus of being 5 speed manual,autos dont interest me.

thanks alot man,to be honest the rubbers were a nightmare the door ones are just a universal type,but the screen ones were really hard to get,and in the end i used different ones which arent right but fit ok. the rear is a universal kinda one aswell,you just gotta get the right pattern,and the front was from horopito motors and was a rambler of some sort..ill have to try and get you to vote for me in the performance car of the year,,im a nominee.would be funny if a rambler won it over imports..

haha yeah some of the stuff done was minor but if you owned one youd notice..as for the seals,you can get them from any place that deals in rubber stuff i guess,soft seal was the brand,mine doesnt leak which is the main thing,but dont pull them too tight when glueing them,they fold funny when the doors closed..wicked to hear ive got your support,would top the year off to win it..cheers man

@afropuff62 ,rwd man,yeah a bit of work,it was featured in new zealand performance car a couple years ago,so if you want google nzpc rambler,got a full article and better photos,funny you mention a rambler american,a while ago a guy said he planned on doing the same thing,but i think the american might have a smaller engine bay,and the rb will be a pretty tight fit.but hey most things are possible if you really wanna do it,would go crazy in a car that size aswell..

Follow on to below. Plus when the AMC 6 was designed in the '60s there where OHC versions built and run on test. Production was shelved due to the extra costs for machining lines.

Well, I'm glad if you did an engine swap you at least kept a 6 cylinder. It's too bad nobody ever did a really nice flowing cross flow head for the AMC six. Most people don't know it but the AMC 6 and the Chevy small block have a lot of things that are similar in terms of engine geometry. Bore spacing is .005" different. Deck hieghts fall into the small block range as do rod lengths and piston heights. In the '90s they were actually looking at a 4 valve head for the 4.0

Somthing like a Fikse Profil 13, OZ Superleggera III, CCW LM20, that sort of thing. Big diameter 2 or 3 piece forged wheels with a contrasting center and a polished lip. Unlike the other guys I'm fine with the diameter and tire profile, I just think the design of the wheel doesn't work with that particular car. Something racy looking would work better, especially if you had some 330+ mm brakes behind them.
I like it overall. If you built it, you did a great job.

@SteveASuper i didnt do ALL the work,im not a panel beater/painter/fabricator/mechanic.
i bought the car as a rolling body in rough original condition..i did the suspension work,bare metalled the car,fully stripped interior/exterior,and some interior work(upholstery etc) and put it all back together after paint myself,but the chroming,fabrication,panel and paint,90% of upholstery and wiring were all done by professionals...

Okies, cool. Had some thoughts on the wheels/tires. Have you thought about a satin finish on the center section with the lips/rim portion going with a brushed aluminum look? Think also if the tires were in the 45% to 50% aspect ratioThey'd look better from the side view and would set a nice ratio between- opening, rubber, and wheel. Sharp ride.

i have had about 7 variations of wheels on this,15s with a 60 profile,17s with a 45 profile,18s with a 40 profile,20s with 40profile,black,silver etc..im interested in rim not tyre,my personal opinion is that tyres are expendable,they are a throw away item.i hate the old school big tyre look and you cant fit 20s with 45 ratio on a car this low.this turns heads,hate or love it.it isnt like everyone elses with the same ideas as you

@jhaze918 cheers man,yeah its all pretty much custom,with the bigger engine bay i could get away with having things on different angles or larger than the usual.only running 12psi,and making 366hp at the wheels..might upload a new vid soon,its now got black tail lights,chrome eyelids and mirror tints.

its a nice build in the sense of fnish but jap engine in a american classic thats just wrong i mean messed up secound im old school so wheels bigger the 15 on a classic again just plain wrong yeah i might be narrow minded but the fast and furious movies realy messed up the car culture but still congrats on you achivements

an engines sole purpose is to drive a car,and the car has no preference,so its only peoples opinion that things are wrong,i built this car before the movie came out so saying that it influenced me in anyway is wrong..and the movies only portrayed trends that were already around,so only followed suit,and didnt show anything new..as for wheels coddington and foose predominantly build in bigger sizes now,so its just where its going.instead of your comment build one old school,and prove its better

im not putting hydros im not going to mess up the chassis and i use it as a daily driver and to transport my niece/god daughter n nephew so i wanna keep it safe ya know and i might put bags but i doubt it and ravenous is a local AMC show that is put on by my car club

love the car i just bought one the 1966 rambler classic 770 sedan i think the same but i have the original engine. n mines a 2 tone. hoping to finish n re paint it by august for ravenous n meet in the mountians. hoping i can get it inot a reg car club not just the rambler one. but ur car is nice gives me hope mine will fit in with a lowrider club not just the ramblers

Thanks for the honest answer. Yes it is just my own opinon & it's your car, so you can do what ever you want. I have seen these cars since the 60's. I prefer original colors, such as Blue,Red, Black or Silver. The original designers worked a long time time on selecting proper colors for the body style, they always had soft/subtle colors. Find an original sales flyer and look at the color choices. My opinion is this color does not go well on any vehicle, it is just to bright.

i guess thats just two different schools of thought,but i see how some will say its too bright,just as i feel the original colours were too weak,and considering what i did overall,a subtle colour wouldnt have suited the direction i went..the designers were working with what was available in 1966,and trends etc that were popular,i rebuilt it in 2005,and followed the same..i could have painted it a standard colour,but then it would have looked like just a nice original paint job.cheers

@fishhed01 nice AMC but whats up with the jap motor? theres plenty of 360 n401 out there. shit they even sell AMC crate motors 840 hp sroked out 401.not my choice of motor,but its not my car.I love AMC.cool half breed. i would like it more if it hade the287, 327 V8 in it that AMC put in those cars.

@AMXBOY73 ,whats up with the jap motor is about doing something other than what everyone else would have done...this originally was a 232 six,and v8 versions are not too common...and on top of that i generally dont rate v8s any way..plus the bonus of having plenty of off the shelf upgrades at decent prices,fuel injection,and added power via turbo,...how much would your 840 hp crate engine set you back money wise??

@fishhed01 840hp AMC crate motor would set you back a easy 18K N those cars did come with v8 in them stock it was the first verson of the AMC V8 the 287 n the AMC 327 n in the stock trim were throwing out 280hp not bad.what was the total cost of buying the jap motor rebuiling it n making the brackets to mount it. just asked y. what kind of psi are you throwing out?

@AMXBOY73 ,ok so 18k usd is around 25-30 nzd,which is about what i spent all up on the whole car!!,i realise they came with a v8 as my mates dad has a 64 genuine v8,but they arent common here,
the standard engine cost me 2k,plus the new turbo,wastegate,manifolds,throttle body,intercooler and fabrication etc etc,around 10k all up
its only boosting 12psi,with standard internals and injectors and makes 366hp at the wheels..and i get the bonus of being 5 speed manual,autos dont interest me.

Nice job brotha she sure is something else!! Seen it on the cover of PC and was like faaaark thats a good idea! But nice worksmanship man I esp like the chroming of the fuel cap, and strut brace nice touch. Im just down in chch and have a 65 Rambler Classic that im restoring, hopefully have it on the road soon, but was wondering a couple of things if you gotta spare minute... where did you get your window and door rubbers??

thanks alot man,to be honest the rubbers were a nightmare the door ones are just a universal type,but the screen ones were really hard to get,and in the end i used different ones which arent right but fit ok. the rear is a universal kinda one aswell,you just gotta get the right pattern,and the front was from horopito motors and was a rambler of some sort..ill have to try and get you to vote for me in the performance car of the year,,im a nominee.would be funny if a rambler won it over imports..

haha yeah some of the stuff done was minor but if you owned one youd notice..as for the seals,you can get them from any place that deals in rubber stuff i guess,soft seal was the brand,mine doesnt leak which is the main thing,but dont pull them too tight when glueing them,they fold funny when the doors closed..wicked to hear ive got your support,would top the year off to win it..cheers man
