  • have you tried to otg two samsung notes together? i mean to transfer files over the otg cable and such? or a samsung note with an S2?

  • @73hectorprada Interesting question, I haven't tried that (and no longer have a second Note, so cannot try it now). If I have an opportunity to do this I will let you know.

  • @NZtechfreak please do it should be interesting

    thanks!

  • can you tell me what bluetooth controller and connection (apps? root? settings?) you did?

I thought you cannot connect 3rd party controllers (unless you have ICS)

but you obviously showed I am wrong. If I can use 3rd party cheap controller I am OTG now!

  • @dsan45 I used a Phonejoy in this one, you need the free Bluez IME app to use it. You can also use a PS3 controller via bluetooth with the app Sixaxis Controller (Root required, in the Market). It's really nice because it will let you map onscreen controls to controller buttons (theoretically making it possible to use the PS3 Controller with most games).

  • Since today i have an OTG cable, a usb mouse and usb keyboard. My Note detects the mouse and keyboard, but no cursor is popping up or keyboard working. Do you know how i can fix this issue? Thanks in advance

  • @mitchell600 Which keyboard and mouse do you have? Which firmware are you on?

  • @NZtechfreak Android 2.3.6 and Konig flexible keyboard. And usb hub mouse.

    bol.com/nl/p/computer/konig-flexible-mini-toetsenbord/1003004010978298/index.html bol.com/nl/p/computer/konig-optische-muis-kaartlezer-en-usb-hub/1003004011548986/index.html

  • @mitchell600 Links seem to be down I'm afraid. Only suggestion would be to try XDA, there are various kernels there and some may have better optimised USB OTG.

  • Hey, I absolutely love your profile and reviews on the GNote.

    I just have two questions:

-Are you using a skin for Gingerbread? if so which one,

-Do you know if it's possible to text completely handsfree with the note? (As in hit that 'send' button handsfree, or at least with the button located on the included headset)

  • @guitarplayerone Thanks for your feedback! That is stock Gingerbread there, but using LauncherPro+ for the Launcher with some WP7 theming (now using ADW Launcher, much easier theming!). I have no idea about texting completely hands-free to be honest, never tried - might be possible with the bundled VLingo software... Will check when I can.

  • Monitor from LG : )

  • @saemtlmania Indeed, got a bit of a monster desktop a few months back and after the 16GB of RAM and SSD I had to skimp somewhere!

  • ...I find myself just listening to your breathing, as you do it so often.. Asthma ?

  • @MrEpidemik Nice try with the spot diagnosis, but nah, it's just breathing often to speak clearly (or try at any rate) and being near the mic!

  • Don't be mad at me for asking, but what camera do you use? I have a 60D and it doesn't auto focus real time. I have to either press a button that makes an annoying sound or manually focus

  • @wwjoshdew Why would I get mad? Camera is a Panasonic FZ100.

  • how do i connect a controller to my note? i cant stand software buttons, i have a ps3 controller and an xbox controller and a wiimote and playstation move. I cant get anything to work, i dont yet have a usb host adapter yet.

  • @fpsHacker5950 Check the blog, full guide there for connecting PS3 controllers (Root required). Phonejoy's will work without Root. WiiMotes won't work until CM/MIUI get ported to the Note (there is already an earlier CM9 build out, but bluetooth is flakey so I'd wait).

  • @fpsHacker5950 None of them work with the USB OTG function.

  • Great video!

How do you connect to monitor /TV? Is there an app or function for this?

  • Great video!

How do you connect to the monitor/tv? Is there a function or app for this?

  • @who238 No app needed, just need an MHL adapter (it plugs into the Micro USB port and then you plug a power source and HDMI cable into the adapter and you're good to go).

  • what's the name of this cable ,plz ?

  • @The0114071556 MHL cable/adapter.

  • @NZtechfreak thanks man :)

  • Can u do a video show the disadvantage u found in the note

  • @SuperBeatsking Check out the review at the blog - I don't hold back on issues with phones!

  • Is it a heavy duty phone i mean can it handle the apps as on tablets

  • Hi NZtechfreak, May you do a video that how to do remote computer from outside to control my computer at home to run heavy software such as design software for its?? And did its support the QWERT keyboard include "win", "ctrl" and "alt" button in function and mouse when remote computer from outside(trough wifi or internet)??

  • @blacksunday98 Heavier software like design stuff would likely be a bit more choppy and difficult to use, you'd need good upload and download on both ends of the connection (PC at home and the phone) in order for it to be really workable. Trying to remember if function keys worked - been a couple of weeks since I did it (because I'm now reviewing a Galaxy Nexus). Will check!

  • Thank yoU!

  • @k1ng617 No worries!

  • Notes: That the Samsung note is showing you the subtitle for the monster INC in playback but the PC monitor has no subtitle shown on it..the resolution for the PC monitor is incorrect. How do you make the subtitle appear on the PC monitor??

  • @on23jas I don't think it's a matter of wrong resolution so much as certain elements are not mirrored via MHL (like onscreen media controls etc, I'll check out different display options but I don't think it'll make a difference).

  • bro, how did u connect the keyboard and mouse? bluetooth? I mean how did u connect the OTG when u are already using the slot for the HDMI ?

  • @0122393042 Yup, bluetooth :)

  • @NZtechfreak - You are my techie hero. I myself have been following MHL and related Galaxy S II technologies since beginning of this year and seeing as we are going into 2012 how do you feel on the even more exciting prospects of the Galaxy S III (S3)?

  • @garyminion I'm hugely excited by the prospect of the S3, at this point I can't see anything standing in Samsung's way - I think it's likely to be the handset of 2012 like the S2 is this year. It promises to be an S2 with even better internals, an HD screen, and ICS - will be tough for anyone to beat the technology Samsung will be able to put together.

  • @NZtechfreak do you face any wakelock after remove the OTG? i am facing a juice sucker wakelock Usbstorageunmountter after unmount usb and removing it.

  • @ValouR86 No, no problems after removing OTG. Perhaps ask at XDA, your problem sounds unusual but maybe someone else has found a fix.

  • @NZtechfreak thanks for reply !

posted in Xda few days ago few forumer encounter too. but sadly no way to get it done.

  • @ValouR86 If nobody has found a fix then I would think a fresh flash with full wipe may well fix it.

  • I'd love to know what N64 emulator you used.....and the graphics are astounding! My Note is on order (Finally- Ive been watching this phone for about 2 months- hopefully At&t will release word for the U.S. shores..) Excellant work on your reviews! *Subscribed

  • @SLEEPER98RT N64oid, available from Slideme

  • @NZtechfreak hey man cam sgs2 do all that ???/

  • Dont you need the official samsung usb adapter to use certain devices because it connects to the mains meaning it can deliver the required power to whatever device is needed

  • @aljowen The MHL adapter has a power input, but looking at the official Samsung USB one I can't see a power input anywhere? In any case, I tried the devices with an externally powered hub which works with the SGSII, so would expect it to work here also.

  • @NZtechfreak You might be correct actually. I thought there was, Now i look i cant see one. My mistake ,thanks for responding.

  • Hi Please share your opinion is it worth to try

1- Use galaxy note teamviewer to reach bussiness server and wake on line my personel bussiness computer

2- use galaxy note as a remote desktop connect it to a monitör with hdmı cable so that now ı am on vocation and using asus n1215 if this can happen ı am no longer bring this netbook with me. Insteead o this ı will buy a montör and use only galaxy note.

3- use microsoft wireless usb mouse and keyboard by connecting usb cable to galaxy note

  • @omersah2007 You may well be able to use the Microsoft wireless kb/mouse, but I can't confirm for sure - another user I know is using the Logitech 'unifying' wireless receiver for kb/mouse and that works. In terms of remote desktop it depends on your specific needs, for myself I find MHL and RDP very usable with BT keyboard and mouse (you won't be able to use USB kb/mouse and MHL at the same time unfortunately, as they use the same port and are mutually exclusive connections).

  • @omersah2007 No experience with Teamviewer, but if the Android app offers that functionality it shouldn't be a problem as far as I can tell (perhaps email the dev from the Android Market to enquire).

  • @ NZtechFreak - No Worries... take your own time.... we are eagerly waiting!

Btw one question, I have now wireless keyboard, (wireless not Bluetooth) will that work with Note and how to test if it is working or not... I mean how shd I SET UP wiring / connections?

  • @sacsona What kind of wireless keyboard? I've been told by others that the Logitech 'unifying' ones work, you just plug the receiver into a USB OTG cable connected to the phone and you should be good to go without any specific set up. I presume that other wireless ones won't work, but don't have one to confirm that for you.

  • @ NZtechFreak --- You deserve 20 out of 10... believe me you outshine all along... i find your reviews most worth, helpful and trust worthy.... it's a real "Real user review" I am amazed.... pl continue to do your magnificent work.... you ROCK!

I ordered Galaxy Note and eagerly awaits your article @ S-Pen and also @ how to customise your Android phone without Root

    Cheers!

  • @sacsona Wow, thanks! Final part coming soon, was delayed while I was doing a video for it, but I think I'll lead with the article and just complete the video when it's done.

  • @sacsona Final part is up, just need to do a video to accompany it :) Now doing Nexus stuffs :)

  • @NZtechfreak -- Hello Thanks a lot... I was so eagerly waiting for this, hope you will upload Video soon.... I am traveling now.(Writing from Dubai), will check out tomorrow.... I am sure it will be a full packed version....

many many Thanks.... will share my feedback....

  • hi thank u 4 the video...can u plz explain me how to use your theme? I ALREADy installed launcher pro plus but i've just got a cleaned desktop view...thank u so much!!!

  • @tigfit1 Hi there! You're not the only person to ask, so what I'm going to do is a post at the blog about how to customise your Android phone without Root and include a full how-to for my own setup.

  • Great video..learnt a lot

  • @motherlover1995 Thanks! I find it interesting that this video, which I think is much more informative has like a fifth the views of the pocketability video!

  • Great video. Nicely done and very useful and informative. Well done and thanks from another fellow Note owner.

  • @neilhy No problem, glad you liked it!

  • I want it!!!

  • @stevejobsd I always knew you were a fan Steve!

  • Thanks!!!!!!

  • What is the gaming controller called and where can i get one? Please reply and also dose it work with psx emulatore as well?

  • @venom1561 It's a Phonejoy, it also works with the PSX emulator. If you Google Phonejoy it's the first result. If you Note is Rooted then you can use PS3 controllers also.

  • What was the Launcher you were using?

  • @funkychap LauncherPro+

  • @NZTechfreak thank you.

  • Awesome

  • @nickbro1997 It's cool stuff eh!

  • @NZtechfreak What MHL adapter are you using? I'm looking at a generic one from dealextreme, but will this cause any issues?

  • @tspshilt hard to say honestly, it's a standard connection type, so all should be equal. Some older TV's don't do so well with MHL though, so you could have problems regardless.

  • Hey, what lock screen app are you using at around 10:45 mark?

  • @TheKunalParwani Just looks like my homescreen at around that point? The lock screen I use is Widgetlocker though.

  • @NZtechfreak Thanks! And btw, the review on your blog was the most detailed one I have seen for the Note.

  • I'm really enjoying your videos on the Samsung Galaxy phones. Keep up the good work.

Now I've got past my initial impulsive cravings for the Note, I'm trying to figure out whether the size would be practical for me. I really need to get my hands on one to find out.

  • @ForViewingOnly Did the pocketability video help?

  • Great video. What was the name of that Chinese PlayStation like Bluetooth controller?

  • @snakemanjayd It's a Phonejoy, if you Google for it their site will be the first link.

  • @NZtechfreak Thanks

  • Can you try connecting a camera using the OTG cable, so that one can transfer photos directly from the camera. I use this feature on my old archos 605 via the archos portable dock and dont need a computer while travelling. The archos home dock allows me to record TV or anything that is passed via the dock, is there anything similar for such phones.

Does WiFidirect work for printers? Can you connect it to other wifi capable devices without the presence of a WiFi router for transfering files.

  • @veryannoyingname Great questions, will try it and let you know!

  • Awesome video. Can you please mention the name (brand and model) of each of the devices that worked using bluetooth or OTG or the other peripherals that you used please, so that I can look up the prices for them and budget for them.

Good atleast the FAT32 usb storage keys worked. Disappointing to hear that USB hubs dont work and neither do the powered hard disks on the note. Cant figure out why they would remove functionality from a phone released a few months later. Hope a work around comes!

  • @veryannoyingname The keyboard is the Logitech MX5500 (although basically any BT HID profile keyboard should work). The mouse is a Dell UN733 (can be got cheaply on Ebay, that's what I did), the mouse that comes with the MX5500 doesn't map the menu button which is a bit annoying. The USB OTG cable is from Ebay, dirt cheap (there is a link in the description to my SGSII USB OTG video in this channel).

  • Always look forward too your vids man ! Although i find myself wanting more gadgets after watching .. Gw

  • @TellyGambino Cheers man!

  • Great vid cheers for this, some very interesting possibilities ahead. You were quick btw it's only been released hasn't it! :)

  • @sean2068 Thanks! I got mine Wednesday, just a little ahead of most people :)

  • Is the galaxy s2 getting ICS???

  • @L0rdLogan Yes, confirmed.

  • Sorry for all the questions...but are you using a combo bluetooth keyboard and mouse like from Logitech? And have you tried using a USB hub to connect both a USB drive AND the keyboard/mouse at the same time to see if they all function together simultaneously?

If that works..this would be EXACTLY why I want Samsung to have an additional port dedicated to HDMI out.

  • @djbneozen no worries, questions are good! Sadly my USB keyboards and mice don't work with the USB OTG function so I can't tell you that (will update the blog if I manage to find someone with others I can try). Totally get your thinking about the problem of the shared port, an issue for many since USB keyboards/mice are much more commonly owned than bluetooth ones.

  • Are you using Pocket Cloud for remote desktop? You should try it using VNC. It's amazing.

The problem with OTG in my opionion is that is uses up the MHL option so you CANT connect a USB drive and do HDMI out at the same time.

  • Comment removed

  • @djbneozen it's Splashtop, best applications of its kind that I've used...

  • @NZtechfreak If you install Ultra VNC on your PC and the Pocket Cloud (free) on the Note, check out the mouse cursor on the phone...it's worth the download alone.

  • @djbneozen will give it a whirl sometime, Splashtop is just so good though! Does the solution you're talking about do sound like Splashtop?

  • @NZtechfreak Splashtop does sound? How is that possible. Do you have to have a wi-fi connection? What is the frame rate like? Pocket Cloud is awesome even over 3G. No sound though.

  • @djbneozen Not sure how its possible, you install their streaming software client on the PC side and it handles it. In the video you can hear an antivirus alert on my laptop in the Splashtop session!

  • I think your audio might be messed up on this vid.

  • @djbneozen really? It seems OK from here?
