I believe it's a custom made synth. Though, I have no idea. I've seen close ups of it, and it looks like it's something home-made or custom.

its just soundproof glass so that the drums don't interfere with the other mics onstage.

If you can hear the drums comming through on the vocal track the sound gets muddy and there could be weird feedback issues.
