Absolutely beautiful. I'm wondering, when you put air through the embouchure - do you imagine blowing to the left, or to the right (down the tube)? Strange question, but people seem to imagine it differently. You're a very "intelligent" player, lovely interpretations.

@Mi3ka3ay3la Yes, for a seven year old, she is very good. But this recording is fantastic as Helen is old enough to breath correctly. Her performance is much more polished and musical. Go Helen! :D
@jen0989 you're 100% right, but just to be fair to randomqazplm, there are a lot of breath marks marked in the actual music that are kind of stupid imo ;)
i like your style girl!!! you're awesome! I love the little lifts you do in the beginning and whereever the theme comes in. it makes a simple melody that much more beautiful and phrased.
Keep up the good work- I noticed you skipped some of the cadence-am l right?l still feel you did a great job im just starting to play the flute in my forties giving it up for almost 25 years ago
Ohhh. I was looking forward to hearing the cadenza. I'll look for your performance to hear it. Nice job! I played this junior year of high school and worked a long time on it. Brings back memories!
im not going to thumb-down you but i disagree with you. i think her vibratoes are vigorous and lively and in places delicate.. and i think it's just the recorder in this video because if you go to her website and listen to proper recording of her playing it sounds much clean and pure.
you're judging someones tone and "VEBRATO"(spelled vibrato) on youtube? Youtube always degrades the quality of videos it hosts so they don't take 5 years to load. And for someone who's closest relating video to flute is titled "My vagina", you may reconsider criticizing others.
looooooooool, do you understand anything about playing the flute? her vebrato's beautiful and her tone's awesome. shut the hell up, envy's such an ugly thing.
Nice job! Have you thought about getting some nice equiptment to record your sound? What your presently using does not do justice to what I think you really sound like.
Great job with this piece!! I am trying to find this piece online to order it, I would like to play this piece this semester for my lessons... know any websites that sell this piece?

why do ppl feel the need to comment about things like pitch problems and incorrect phraseing? This girl looks no older than 17 and is amazing! Im in university for music and she sounds better than most of the flute majors! Why not just appreciate how good she sounds!
Very well done! I also play this piece! some things u might want to consider might be places where u are breathing and some articulation about half way down the first page after the second set of 6ths and 7th after u land on the b natural. Over all very well! how long have u been playing?
Very nice job. I conducted this last year here in Mexico with a young flutist in a band transcription. If you ever perform with just orchestra winds you might look at my Concerto for Flute, Winds and Percussion (NOT band but orchestra winds). I have enjoyed your performances on YouTube. Your Creator has blessed you with a talent that you should develop and use for His glory! You play beautifully for someone of your tender age...keep it up and make the most of your opportunity.
Well, I get my tone by rolling out my flute a little more and opening up the inside of my mouth. Don't tighten up because that wil make your tone quiet and unable to project well. It will also make it so you're out of tune and your low notes wont come out really well. While I play I just imagine i have an apple in my mouth for some reason, just to help me loosen up. It helps a lot! :)
Oh yeah I forgot to put that with me I dont completely loosen my whole mouth, I keep my lips frimer but loosen up the inside of my mouth and open up my throat. Sorry if I'm confusing! haha
Haha. I followed you ok. I always forget to open the back of my mouth :/. My teacher said to act like you are yawning then close your lips. But I like your analogy better because you cant swallow an apple. :)
Great job! I read about your great talent in my Brio magazine and I was inspired, as I play the flute also. I really enjoy your music. I would really wish to be as great as you some day. Any tips for as to being such a great musician?

Hi Just wanted to say, loved the video! from a fellow McGarr from Ireland! Just thought I would type in my surname to see if anything came up and found this video! it would appear that the with the Surname comes musical talent! I play guitar!
Thanks very much for your comment. This is Helen's dad, and I'm a guitar guy myself! If you're ever visiting Utah, come look us up. Mi casa es su casa!
Hello Mr McGarr, Thanks for ur message and kind offer! having checked I see McGarr surname is all over the US, there are only about 10 McGarr families in Ireland as many emigrated to the states in the 1800's. The surname in irish is MacAnGheairr which means "son of short". Unusual that I am the baby of 4 boys and I am 6'7" tall. Would be really nice to speak to some McGarr's in the states so msg me if you would like to chat sometime and I can give u my email. Take Care
My great great grandfather David McGarr arrived in the US in 1850 with his wife and 6 children. I would love to chat with you sometime. You can reach me at boomerutah at mac dot com. And I am very serious, if you ever would like to visit, you have a free place to stay! We've got plenty of room, and are situated right at the base of Mount Timpanogos in the Wasatch range of the Rocky Mountains.
It's so obvious that Helen is a very talented player. However, the quality of recording is a bit frustrating - makes it difficult to enjoy the videos. Maybe it would be better if the person with the video camera (I assume that's what was used) would stand back and in a position to view Helen and the pianist at once. I think the sound is less distorted when the camera is not so much in the flute stand. Just my two pence. I would really like to hear how she really sounds.
You are right. My dad recorded it because he had just purchased a new tiny digital camera, and was very close. He was just experimenting with it. He said it is "clipping" the sound and makes the quality of the recording pretty bad. We will do a better job. If any of you would like to hear/have some better recordings, send my dad an email at boomerutah at mac dot com and he'll send them to you.

Very nice play..
Hope your performance went well.:-)
Agree with previous comment..
However it was good to have seen a bit a your technique, embouchure, etc. It must be difficult to the performer as well..:-)

Thanks, Helen
