  • du evalong

  • If you listen to Haward a lot you know that he rarely lets a musical guest complete an entire song before he interrupts. But he recognized how awesome this song was soundfing and let him play. Obviously Grohl gets the credit, but you have to at least give Stern partial credit for this track even being out there as it is now.

  • "gotta promise not to stop when I say when" - WOW

  • This song went viral before such a thing even really existed, everyone was playing this performance, much like the lady gaga version of the edge of glory, Howard Stern always gets the best out of his guests

  • 2 people didn't listen to Baba Booey

  • lol fucking baba booey...... "EVALONG! EVALONG!"

  • @sfd683 lol i know! im honored :P hahaha

  • he HAS TO enter the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame...what a legend!

  • this is the most beautiful love song ever written.

  • i lurvvv this song so much...wow...almost makes me cry

  • Unfortunately cut off the very lost part of that, where Dave says "I just gotta rock." AWESOME version!

  • goosebumps

  • Howard Rocks, so does the Foo Fighters!!!!

  • I remember listening to Howard Stern that day and when I heard Dave play this acoustically, I actually stopped to listen, it was awesome then and its awesome today. I have been trying to learn to play it! Wow, thanks for posting!

  • Man, this audio clip is so awesome - even ten years later I still love it. Makes me aware of how awesome it is to be yourself around a girl and have her down to be with you.

  • they aired this on the old howrd stern radio show that was on CBS. i believe it was played over the closing credits for the show.....i wish it was still around

  • Dave Grohl=best musician of all time.

  • i just gotta rock

  • i heard it live too. the pressure changed in the atmosphere. i am not even into this band...but hearing this that morning on STERN.......it was Alchemy.

they have never been able to do another version close to this.

  • @MajorsGirl I like this version, including the "I'm goin' to have to shorten the break down thing" intermission by Dave. I catch myself many times still expecting him to say that whenever the studio acoustic release version comes up on the radio.

  • @geepeeone Me too. Burned in you.

  • wow i downloaded this years ago, it was like 2000 or something...such good memories from this song

  • howard stern= original

  • I love how Howard stern is so amazed at the end by this first acoustic everlong version

Howard stern: WOW THATS GREAT, GOD DAMN THATS GREAT!!!...

  • This song is so good, it makes me sad...

  • 25,795 views! Are you kidding me! This may be Grohl's best performance and he did it live on the Stern show. Props to Stern for having a small part in this majical performance. I remember being late to work a few times because of how great the Howard Stern Show was.

  • gansenrouses, in looking back at the comments that have been posted, it's amazing to see how many people shared the experience of hearing this live, and were worried they might never hear it again. so, thanks again from all of us for posting this magic moment in radio/music history.

  • @mohansen11 I couldn't agree more. Even listening to it back then I realized it was a special moment.

  • how old is this song? like not this performance, but the actual song?

  • @scdrummer07 the song (non acoustic version) was released in 1997 on the colour and the shape album

  • came out in 96 i believe

  • scdrummer07 et al.,

I believe the original U.S. release date of the "Colour and Shape" album was May 20, 1997.

  • I love this version as well as when he performed at Wembley. It's weird how haunting it can be when he just sings it or when a max capacity crowd joins him.

  • He had never done this acoustic this?

    Credit Howard Stern?

  • Is there a video of this anywhere? I guess probably not

  • Amazing! I love it!

  • A sweet melody...love it.

  • God damn amazing. Almost makes me cry.

  • Maulrat,

Yes, it's totally amazing! Like Howard, I got chills listening to it as it aired during my commute to work back in the mid-90's, and I didn't get out of my car until the entire interview with Dave was done. Again, amazing!

    PeterZeeke,

Thanks for catching my earlier typo ... it actually had to have been the mid-90's (rather than the early 90's, which is what I had originally meant to type). Thanks again!

  • This is my favorite version of this song. But sadly, I havent been able to find it anywhere so I cant put it on my ipod. :(

  • well you can download it using real player then convert the file to mp3 then transfer the file to your ipod

  • or you could buy the Greatest Hits album which features both versions, the original and the acoustic one. enjoy! (maybe you've already bought it :) anyway it's a damn good song)

  • @brianayvonne check it out on limewire thats where i got it last week

  • @brianayvonne i dowm loaded this exact version from limewire. hope thats of some use.

  • very nice!

  • gave me chills, love it

  • glad you liked it :D

  • freaking amazing go dave

  • Howard Stern knows good music

  • I remember getting to work right after hearing this and a friend of mine was as haunted as I was by this. Never thought I'd hear it again either.

  • Spectacular.

Thanks for posting this - I heard it (live) on NYC radio and admired it - never thought I could hear it again.

    Thank you. Wow.

  • thank you!

  • @dtbakerqwe123ou howard played it all the time afterwards, maybe not so much now cuz its an older song, but he played that one alot!

  • you can probably find this on itunes or something. I know back during the napster days this version was easy to find, especially the ending when Dave says, "I just gotta rock!" F-ing classic song

  • didnt he write this song on acoustic ?

  • i dont know dude :(

  • yeah he did

  • @liljdude94 No. He says at the beginning it's the first time he's ever tried it acoustic. Thats part of what makes it so friggin awesome.

  • nice!!!
