  • Isn't she dancing for her step father? Isn't that just a tad bit creepy to anyone?

  • Awkward, yes...and it is very stylized. Really, it reminds me of a scene from old school Star Trek.

  • In the beginning that guy plays the harp like it's a bass.

  • Who's the fat-arse in the toga? Is it a man or a woman?

  • ....the awkward, nonsensical dancing can never ever equal the musical score.....

  • 3:17 is what inspired Lady Gaga to come out of an egg XD

  • 3:07 "NOW IS THE TIME ON SPROCKETS VER VE DANCE!"

  • im a junior and this is one of the plays we hav to read for my drama class

  • That firsxt minute brought memories of The Adams Family and that Family member that is all hair.

  • @tenore23 Cousin "It"

  • The dance is in the orchestraDon;t need the vulgarity of Ewing

  • As much as it pains me to do so, I am afraid I have to agree with some of the more negative comments made about the dance. While there are some interesting ideas, it really seems more awkward than seductive. It's a shame but I guess even the greatest productions can have a weaker moment. Please keep in mind though that I absolutely love this production and the rest of it is flawless in every sense. This isn't bad of course, just not quite up to the rest of it. Stratas/Bohm+ Salome= perfection

  • @17mathieu

I do not agree. Usually erotics in our time is identified with nakedness. But this is primitive. In this version the subtle erotic lies in being more covered than open. I must say - I like this version more than others, because it is not what is expected or - maybe desired. So intelligent.

  • 0:14 FORCE PUSH!!!

  • Teresa Stratas IS Salomé. She is the crazyest, most beautiful Salomé I've seen. Great actress. Maybe her voice would not carry through in a stage production, but in this dvd production she's fabulous.

  • Very dissapointed with the dance!

  • agree. couldn't live up to the music.

  • Thank you! Thats exactly it. She had no skills and did not interpret the music well which is playful and sensual, yet dramatic and fateful.

  • I think that the costuming for this Salome was very drab. Compare with Rita Hayworth's beautiful layers of veils. The prismatic colors were spectacular. This dance just didn't do it for me. Sorry.

  • I agree. I thought the whole covered veil thing in this made her look like the Taliban took her over!

  • Bwaaahahahaha!!! How did you like the way she lurched into the room? Zombie Taliban!

  • spectacular choreography..only one thing that could have been better is the bigger space for the main dance here, it seems sometimes that dancers are kind of uncomfortable while dancing

  • I saw Maria Ewing perform this in Los Angeles. I can still hear the haunting way she called the prophet's name: "Jochaaaaaaaaanaaaan". Still gives me chills. In her version, she wound up totally nude, standing with arms and legs outstretched in a full spotlite, like "There it is, now GIVE ME WHAT I WANT!" LOL

  • This is the best Salome-production I ever saw.

Kark Böhm/Götz Friedrich. Teresa Stratas is Salome. Hans Beirer Herodes, Astrid Varnay Herodias, Bernd Weikl Jochanaan.

  • This is excellent
