I graduated from NARS in 2005. Got hired soon after. Unfortunately, the economy has hit hard and I am barely working. Railroading is not for everyone, and I have mixed feelings on it.
So BigDave did u finally attended the Academy??? How was it??? Have you found a job yet??? tell me about ur experience... Im still wanting to attend it but Im saving my money in order to go
One other thing I forgot to mention on the last post, the Dean of the Railroad Sciences school is a big, fat, obnoxious tub of crap by the name of Andy Burton. Watch out for him. He screwed up my resume and it got sent to a bunch of railroads in the incorrect format. Then when I confronted him about it he got extremely arrogant and verbally attacked me. A total dick. The whole thing is a money making deal for the college and BNSF Railway. Do not waste your money.
Hey railhead I'm glad you got a job, you are one of the lucky ones. I have kept track of my class and done some statistical research on previous and subsequent classes to mine, and most do not get jobs. The ones who do are in the minority. As to your question am I young or old, you are missing the point. NO company is allowed to age discriminate NO MATTER WHAT your age. It not only happened to me but to a few of the others also. I am 48 and in great shape.
um...go to dallas/ft. worth (i think) and get on I-35 north and head to Kansas City. There you will turn right and head onto I-435. When you see the Quivira Road exit take a right and head down the road til you get to College Blvd. Make a right onto College and then at the the first stop light take a left in to the college. Follow the sign with a train on it. Reply to tell if this helps you at any cost.
I graduated from NARS in 2007. First of all, your statement that they guarantee you a job after 10 weeks is just plain false. The course for Railroad Conductor is 6 weeks long, and they go out of their way to tell you they DO NOT guarantee you a job. In my opinion, it was the biggest waste of $4700 of my own money that I will probably ever spend. Just a complete and utter scam. Another thing they deny, but I have experienced, is that the railroads age discriminate really badly.
Just to clarify, I have not gone to the college. I don't have the money.
