I'm mary in my production of this, and I'm about near "tears" at this point about Colin and I have to hold her hand the whole time and It's ADORABLE! xD At the end, Martha and I look into eachother's eyes as she sings and I start to smile and we hug IT'S SO CUTEEEE! xD

We just did this at my school. I played Martha... and you're right Mary is supposed to be near tears at this point. That's why Martha sings this; to give her hope and strength. If Mary's pissed the song isn't really necessary.

I completely agree. Your Martha rocks! Mary is a bit annoying for some reason, but I can tell she's trying to play a role that's younger than her, which can be hard, so she did great in that aspect.

Mary is supposed to annoy. She was a pampered brat and lost both her parents and was packed off to her widower uncle's. It's been years since I read the book, but I remember she was quite a task until Martha and Dickon brought her out of herself.
