Poorly shot video with a camera phone: it is obviously not a doco. I don't think Katzmagik needs to be too up set for it is something that has been captured on a camera phone quickly while passing through the house. Katzmagik, I'd love to see a better quality home doco, I'd love to see what it is really like on the inside of the house! Please, if you have the chance, post something. :)
Ahem, it was not shot on a camera phone, It was shot using low light mode on my new $900.00 Sony Handycam. No professional portable lighting!
You;re right on your 2 points though. No it's not a doco. Never tried to make it one. Just a record of the what's inside for those who won;t get to see it. And yes, anything goes on this site. If filming without permission was the order of the day, then there would be about half the videos on here and half the stories on A Current Affair/Today Tonight.
As for The Abbey being "Previously undocumented on film" well that's not quite so. When I lived there as a wee boy in the '60s and early '70s there were a number of times I saw film crews set up around the place. From memory I think they were for period dramas but can't quite recall.
Well said Kat. I was excited when a friend told me The Abbey was featured in a video online, but now that I've seen it - and learned how it came about - I'm extremely disappointed too. I thought it It's not only poor form to not have asked permission (the Davis clan are some of the most agreeable, welcoming people you could ever meet) but it's pretty shite videography and fails to do the old girl any justice.
One question fearandconsumption-did you actually make a bid on any of the items being auctioned? Seeing as that was primarily the ONLY reason the house was open to the public at all. The family were auctioning their recently deceased fathers collection & you say they have no grounds for upset. Your ignorance to the families concern at this being uploaded is disgusting & disrespectful. Maybe there were no signs up because the family believed those entering would show common decency.
Unless you are a family member, you should keep your nose out of this matter. Whats this personal complaint from the family got to do with you?
I explained it in my response anyway, so that should suffice as well as the big fat cheque they got from Lawsons, which would help to take the edge off any unpleasantness.
I'll do you a really big favour, dude, and let you know that I won one item for $1,000.00, which means that about $800.00 of that same cheque came from my pocket. Pretty nice eh?
Why is this disappointing? I and others I spoke to who have seen it said they thought it was quite good. Also, why complain to me? I just turned up there like 1000s of others to inspect it with camera in hand (others filmed it too). I;m just the only one who uploaded what they filmed. If you want to complain that someone filmed inside, then you should have had a sign on the front or told Lawsons or Lawsons should have told people on the day that no filming allowed. Your comment has no grounds.
This attempt at capturing our family home whilst open to the public for the 1st time in 50 yr is extremely disappointing! Had you of asked permission we would've been more than happy to show you around ! Im rather disgruntled as are the rest of the family.....
