I am looking for an electric car that looks normal. I don't know why electric cars have to be really small or look really funny. Why can't electric cars look like a Chrysler 300c or a Nissan 350z?
@copperkipper1 That argument is invalid. Its still LESS pollution. And if you REALLY knew what you were doing when converting a gas to electric, you could set it up so the car generates most of its own electricity. Not to mention if your house has wind turbines and solar panels, it could come from there as well. You watch too much tv.
I love all these people that complain about coal powerplants. After all, EVERYone is powered by coal, right? Wrong! Yes, most of the U.S. currently powered by coal. That's a shame, with all the other options out there today. Fortunately for me, I am not. Personally, even though I get my power from hydroelectric, I still want solar and wind attached to my house. The cars won't swap out gas for electric all at once, the need for more power will grow slowly with plenty of time to adjust.
There is one issue here in the US, which is a power grid that is overcapacity. We cannot currently support our entire population via electric vehicles, maybe not even half. Our power plants still run off fossil or carbon fuels. I'm not saying electrics are entirely bad, we just have A LOT of issues, and sprawl also adds to this whole issue.
Are you kidding me right now??? we live to be 80+ and some people over 100, NOT TO MENTION we just learned about cancers and how to diagnose or treat them, people have always been dying from cancers...
@vedums in the usa we give our natural resources over to drilling by multinational corporations who share it with the top 1% of the richest powerful families of the USA and abroad, then a company like BP destroys our gulf coast and with the help of propaganda in the news, they can claim, "mission accomplished" while all life and seafood production stops in the region.
Oh yea, we've got it good my friend. No jobs, no national healthcare, trillions of bebt to China.
@vedums same price as the UK. Funny that people say $2 per gallon is high. I wish people would stop trying to con the public by stating a PHEV prius will do 100mpg when it will NOT. MPG is measured with continuous engine use. Electric motors use electric and can't give a miles per gallon figure - they don't use petrol.
In the UK you would be prosecuted for making untrue and false claims. We have Laws about conning people. A prius does 32MPG on the petrol engine which is rubbish!
@urbex2007 That doesn't make much sense, the electric motor is added to the car so it will drive along and the petrol engine will work less. If it's the fuel economy you're worrying about it's about the driving technique, you can't drive it like a normal car, kinda tricky though. That PHEV Prius or ect... would have much more power in the motor and batteries so more strain is taken off the engine thus improved economy. The plug in one has proven to do <100mpg so many times, and it's a concept.
@vedums, Yeah but also Bic Mac costs about 9$ there and in U.S maybe couple $. Half of the money what Norwegians use to buy gasoline actually comes from oil what Norway sells to other European countries. Finnish don't have oil and they have to pay much more from gasoline than Norwegians and they don't have so much money. Gas doesn't have almost any tax in the U.S for some reason O_o and their trains are made in the time of ww2 and buses are expensive so people just have to use cars in the U.S
good idea with the ev s but the electricity must be clean to from regenerative surces like wind water(wawes) or solar nuclear electricty is only vizible "clean" nuclear garbage is very dangerous
Cost effective huh?? How much are those battery packs? How long do they last? Also, anyone that has a cell phone, lap top, or any other battery power item knows that batterys suck and wear out fast. Cost effective, yeah right. Ask anyone with an electric golf cart.
Remember this qweers. When you "PLUG" in your electric cars in at night. That nasty coal burning or nuclear power plant is charging your car. Most every family has two cars. Now imagine every person in their home including the family teenager pluging in their car to charge at night off the power grid. Power stations would be running at a much much higher capacity burning LOTS of coal . Good one guys. in the end it all the same shit. I can believe you fall for this "green" propaganda shit.

ALSO! IF YOU add a wireless energy pack to the ev it would have infinite milage! i remade nikola teslas wireless energy system, just check it out! wireless energy would allow all electric vehicles to run forever till the ac motor burns out which is 100s of years!!!!
or, untill you fry someone with it, transmitting an EMF to flurescent, at possibly less than a 1% eff, is not highly recomended. An induction charger is a much more reliable method.
All of the Project Better place charging stations being rolled out in the US are fed exclusively by wind or solar farms owned by the companies' partners.
@RoboTekno Personally, my house is powered by hydroelctric dams. But even using a coal power plant to produce the electricity will cause less than half the emissions caused by the cleanest burning gas engines
It'll be practical once lithium ion batteries go down in price (or something better and cheaper comes along).
Wanted to buy a Zap Xebra but the range and speed are just not up to par, and to keep the price down they have to use weaker, slower-charging lead acid batteries.
Until then, electrics just can't compete with gasoline.
Yes switching to electric does mean you have to make sacrifices, but there can be certain benefits that outweigh those sacrifices. The biggest benefit being that you don't have to pay for gas. Of course this is usually off-set by the high sale price of most electric cars available today.
You might look at the aptera. The base model will sell for $25k. That works out to about half of what a cheap compact car would cost you over 7 years after maintenance and fuel.
If you think of the number of tons of pollution that go into the air after driving a regular car for a year, the impact of a battery is very minimal. Consider the life of a regular car battery and you will see that the environmental impact of an electric car battery is minimal to none.
In a decade electric cars, more public transportation, and the increased use of solar, wind, river current, wave, tide, geo thermal will stop the madness of burning fossil fuels to travel or light and heat or cool our homes and work places!
I don't see electric cars taking over from petrol and diesel cars! The problem is that you firstly have to burn fuel to make electric!
Why not buy a a diesel 1.4 VW polo bluemotion which does 75 mpg! Great looking car, not to bad to the environment + people can hear you coming so they won't step out in front of you! Problem with hybrid and electric cars is that they are just too quiet!
Have you ever heard of wind and solar power? And by the way, there's also river current power and wave power, and geo thermal. Fact: We don't need to burn fossil fuels or build nuke plants! So electric cars are quiet, so what! We have enough noise pollution too,k as well as air pollution from burning fossil fuels!

Been thinking of doing an electric conversion job with a friend on an '85 Pontiac Firebird - we'd have to rip out pretty much all the old stuff, re-work the suspension and floor, throw in racing seats, etc, but we could probably make it light enough to run quite nicely on electricity.
Some would call it rape. I'd call it a kickass drag car. :)
maybe one day there will be commercially built electric cars that are just like petrol cars. if tesaco hadn't bought out a key nimh battery company things would probably be very different. they had got the battery to out last the life of a car and were cheaper than a ice.
Nicola Tesla's car used a battery switching trick which makes the batteries self charging. Google "Tesla Switch", and positive results and replications are found on overunity website.
why buy a $40K Volt when you can convert much for less and more mileage. my golfcart goes 40 miles and its made of metal not like the volt made of plastic
the VOLT also runs on its 1.4liter gasoline engine powering the wheels so its not really a new technology its just like the prius.
The Volt isn't even real...your golfcart is...they still won't acknowledge NiMH proven EV propulsion and are attempting LiON...an odd thing to do when their stock is below $5 a share!
I believe, but could be wrong, that LiON chares up faster, and is a lighter battery isn't it? I'm guessing that's why they would want to stick to that formula.
C'mon people, just say it like it is, EV-1 was murdered by oil greed, politicians are sucking corporate cock in this 'free' country, what happened to the USA I knew and loved. Why cant a guy have the freedom to buy an EV-1 if they choose to, why crush'em all. obviously capitalism can do as much harm as it can do good.
There are no more EV1's. GM took them all from there owners and destroyed them all. I think there are one or two left to show in a musem but, they were orderd by GM to be non-functional.
they took part of the electronics out but I think there is something like 21 of them left and they are under contract never to drive again. I dogged a couple of GM stooges about it and their defense was that noone has asked to be allowed to make them drive again which is of course bullshit. I asked Chelsea Sexton to ask GM to release them to puncture that excuse but she didn't want to.. I found that disappointing
Yeah, those people have no conscience when it comes to our environment. They would willingly leave nothing on Earth for future generations, just so they can have their profits.
All this talk about EV's not being cleaner than ICE's is nonsense, if you charge your EV via a clean, renewable energy source, such as wind and solar power, then your car will be as clean as the driven snow.
Not entirely, it would only be a matter of time until the people behind oil would jump ship and see how profitable electric vehicles can be. You know about all these technologies the oil industry is trying to put down, battery technology for one, one day when they finally decide to jump ship, they come out saying 'look what we made', only by then, that technology will be decades out of date.
Greedy people will always find ways to monopolise, with EV's, it'll be no different.
We can only hope that prices of electricity dont go crazy like oil... (or should that be hope the 'oilers' dont get their hands on supply) since your whole house is basically powered by electricity.
The sad part is, americans think bigger is better. Thats why we have these MORONs buying hummers, believing the lies that their safer. News flash. Same amount of steel as a smaller car, stretched to fit a larger area, making the material weaker. also.. why do you need a 4wd offroad vehicle, when 99% of you will NEVER get it dirty or going off road. you need space? GET A MINIVAN!! we need to start LAUGHING at suv owners so they learn we dont respect them, we pitty them for being gullible.
well dont think everyone thats drives a big car/truck is evil. You get into a car accident like me and your outlook on driving changes. Now you can say well rollover is a suv/truck is more deadly well yeah. But overall your alot safer!
I've been involved in 3 motorcycle accidents. Not a broken bone or other serious injury from any of them. Was I lucky? You bet I was. I have also been involved in a couple minor wrecks in a car and have suffered worse injuries. It's situational.
I've seen people in huge trucks die from what appears to be a minor fender bender. The size of your vehicle doesn't make you necessarily safer, just reduces your risk of serious injury or death.
I wouldn't worry about them, they'll just buy all the power companies and jack up the price for electricity and they'll use congress to find a way to make us pay.
i remember all of u that we must save our planet from the increasing pollution... i sadly admit that it could be too late, but thats the least we can do for our homeplanet.
If EV's took over the highways of America and the oil company's went bankrupt. Would that destroy the economy? Tell me, if you saved $100 a month powering you car with electricity instead of gasoline what would you do with eh extra money? Burn it? No you would spend it some other way. It would still be put back into the economy. It would just get there without going through Exxon, OPEC .....
We have been living off the grid with our solar powered home for nearly 25 years! I would like to add about another $30-40K in more solar, wind and small hydro so that we can charge an electric car or two without guilt.
WE all must set goals and invest in a clean future, my goal is to get off petro by 2012!
How about making the EV look like a normal car? For some of us it is the looks of the EV that turn us off from it.myself I like my internal combustion engine:) I just wish I could fuel it up with something cleaner,AND cheaper:)
Most EVs do look like normal cars, because they ARE normal cars & trucks that have electric drive systems installed. You just don't notice them as much as the odd ones like the Sparrow & City-El shown in this clip. "Normal" looking Factory EVs include Ford Rangers, Toyota RAV4, Chevy S-10 and more. Others converted by 3rd party companies include Scion Xb, Chevy/Geo Metro, Corolla/Geo Prism, and many others, too...
imagine how much more quiet big cities like N.Y would be if everyone drove electric cars. i think it'd sound creepy, but would probably make those cities much nicer places to live in.
Once energy becomes available mainly from solar, wind, or other clean sources rather than coal burning, dams, or nuclear power, I'll be more excited about plugging in an electric vehicle. For now, bio-diesel seems to be the cleanest alternative. Of course, in the end, I appreciate anything than eases our transition away from oil and noisy cars. Thanks for the video. :)
Lol the quietest car rally ever.

Nicola Tesla's car used a battery switching trick which makes the batteries self charging. Google "Tesla Switch", and positive results and replications are found on overunity website.

why buy a $40K Volt when you can convert much for less and more mileage. my golfcart goes 40 miles and its made of metal not like the volt made of plastic
the VOLT also runs on its 1.4liter gasoline engine powering the wheels so its not really a new technology its just like the prius.
emforty2 3 years ago
The Volt isn't even real...your golfcart is...they still won't acknowledge NiMH proven EV propulsion and are attempting LiON...an odd thing to do when their stock is below $5 a share!
anthonycut 3 years ago
I believe, but could be wrong, that LiON chares up faster, and is a lighter battery isn't it? I'm guessing that's why they would want to stick to that formula.

C'mon people, just say it like it is, EV-1 was murdered by oil greed, politicians are sucking corporate cock in this 'free' country, what happened to the USA I knew and loved. Why cant a guy have the freedom to buy an EV-1 if they choose to, why crush'em all. obviously capitalism can do as much harm as it can do good.
fgnhn 3 years ago 3
There are no more EV1's. GM took them all from there owners and destroyed them all. I think there are one or two left to show in a musem but, they were orderd by GM to be non-functional.
pmhoard 3 years ago
they took part of the electronics out but I think there is something like 21 of them left and they are under contract never to drive again. I dogged a couple of GM stooges about it and their defense was that noone has asked to be allowed to make them drive again which is of course bullshit. I asked Chelsea Sexton to ask GM to release them to puncture that excuse but she didn't want to.. I found that disappointing
DanFrederiksen 3 years ago
why the hell they destroy it? why the hell we don't have only clean cars?

soon these vehicles will become a more common site on city streets. the gouging of consumers owning gas powered vehicles will be the reason

**imagine if half of cars are electric...that would cut down big oil's profits. that's why they are against electric cars.
tenrazo215 3 years ago 3
Yeah, those people have no conscience when it comes to our environment. They would willingly leave nothing on Earth for future generations, just so they can have their profits.
All this talk about EV's not being cleaner than ICE's is nonsense, if you charge your EV via a clean, renewable energy source, such as wind and solar power, then your car will be as clean as the driven snow.

i dont think it will work... commerce would crash
k0tt0nm0uthkings 3 years ago
Not entirely, it would only be a matter of time until the people behind oil would jump ship and see how profitable electric vehicles can be. You know about all these technologies the oil industry is trying to put down, battery technology for one, one day when they finally decide to jump ship, they come out saying 'look what we made', only by then, that technology will be decades out of date.
Greedy people will always find ways to monopolise, with EV's, it'll be no different.
Chris

We can only hope that prices of electricity dont go crazy like oil... (or should that be hope the 'oilers' dont get their hands on supply) since your whole house is basically powered by electricity.

The sad part is, americans think bigger is better. Thats why we have these MORONs buying hummers, believing the lies that their safer. News flash. Same amount of steel as a smaller car, stretched to fit a larger area, making the material weaker. also.. why do you need a 4wd offroad vehicle, when 99% of you will NEVER get it dirty or going off road. you need space? GET A MINIVAN!! we need to start LAUGHING at suv owners so they learn we dont respect them, we pitty them for being gullible.
killian1701 3 years ago
well dont think everyone thats drives a big car/truck is evil. You get into a car accident like me and your outlook on driving changes. Now you can say well rollover is a suv/truck is more deadly well yeah. But overall your alot safer!
gunmaster1981 3 years ago
when your time is over, it's over. doesn't matter what U drive.
tenrazo215 3 years ago
I've been involved in 3 motorcycle accidents. Not a broken bone or other serious injury from any of them. Was I lucky? You bet I was. I have also been involved in a couple minor wrecks in a car and have suffered worse injuries. It's situational.
I've seen people in huge trucks die from what appears to be a minor fender bender. The size of your vehicle doesn't make you necessarily safer, just reduces your risk of serious injury or death.

i wonder what would happen to oil companies when ppl switch to a alternate fuel scource like electric

gangrail
I wouldn't worry about them, they'll just buy all the power companies and jack up the price for electricity and they'll use congress to find a way to make us pay.

GSpotter63 3 years ago
The oil companies have way to much cash to really go bankrupt. They'd probably just invest in electric vehicles or something.
KenMacMillan 3 years ago
We have been living off the grid with our solar powered home for nearly 25 years! I would like to add about another $30-40K in more solar, wind and small hydro so that we can charge an electric car or two without guilt.
WE all must set goals and invest in a clean future, my goal is to get off petro by 2012!

How about making the EV look like a normal car? For some of us it is the looks of the EV that turn us off from it.myself I like my internal combustion engine:) I just wish I could fuel it up with something cleaner,AND cheaper:)
capridrifter 3 years ago
Most EVs do look like normal cars, because they ARE normal cars & trucks that have electric drive systems installed. You just don't notice them as much as the odd ones like the Sparrow & City-El shown in this clip. "Normal" looking Factory EVs include Ford Rangers, Toyota RAV4, Chevy S-10 and more. Others converted by 3rd party companies include Scion Xb, Chevy/Geo Metro, Corolla/Geo Prism, and many others, too...

You can convert an old VW Beetle or buy the ZENN, wait for the Tesla Roadster or..build a brand-new vehicle yourself!

Shine on!
