Just when you thought the graphics and gameplay couldn't be better. Being a dedicated fan of SH2, 3 and 4 I've avoided purchasing this because I hear nothing but nightmares about the anti-piracy program and that you are forced to play it through an internet connection only. I also think despite having a upgraded (big time) Dell XPS Gen4 my system won't handle it.
i know you don't want me to say this but. k i was going to say that what actualy happened was that prien shot the Royal Oak's anchor chain... and then put one in the hull... the poor brits thought there co2 tanks had simply exploded. she went down on a 90 degree angle which made men think it was a good idea to climb out the portholes and jump in the water... a tugboat in the area parked along side of the RoyalOak and people started to get onto it... some men weren't even wet.
I used to live there in a place called deerness, up the the wilderness called orkney! Worth a visit to see all the scuttled ships, esp if your into that!

which button on key board speeds up time in the campaign mode....i cant find it, so havent played the game in ages because its far too slow to play. so can anyone help? cheers
What music did you use? By the way, a small correction...The U-boat that penetrated Scapa Flow was the U-47, a Type VIIB U boat, not the U-27. The visual characteristics of the Type VIIB in the video were consistent with the actual boat, however. Still a great video.

The video is VERY well done. But as far as the GAME is concerned, I prefer Silent Hunter 3 (as far as the Atlantic scenario is concerned): it doesn't have as much eye-candy as SH5, but IMO it is far a more "solid" simulation, with a better gameplay and less bugs.

Do you recommend this game? I hear it has problems. I have an Inspiron 530 with Windows 7, a gig of memory I believe. I have no clue how much is needed to run it, though I know a 1 gig is small.
I play Silent Hunter IV. People say that Silent Hunter V is not a good game, but I personally think that its quite nice. Awesome graphics, ability to talk to the crew, walk around the ship and etc. I'll give it a 5/5.
@Jackie68450 Remember how in SH4 you ordered a crash dive and the sub went down, all with 1 button. Not anymore. If you are on deck, you have to actually go inside the sub and then you can order a crash dive. And God have mercy on your sub should you miss the ladder going down, cause the hunters won't. Graphically is better, game play wise is bad. Also, torpedoes do little flotation damage. Maybe there is a patch to correct that, but this mistake shouldn't be in the game in the first place.
is SH5 better than SH4? i have SH4 (no uboat missions tho) and have been thinkin bout SH5, i hear it requires u to be on internet to play because of Ubi's craptastic anti-piracy? how is the realism? i see the game emersion seems awesome.
Just like the sinking of the royal oak (biggest ship in the fleet) when a german spy plane went over and they the sent a sub and only the oak was there the rest fled hours before they fired 5 torpedos at it 2 of wich hit and sunk it. I bet the german commander was pissed off cause there was not fleet.
nice video, some mods i recommend: relistic flags, more realistic periscope and key commands.
it bugs me that you hit 2 or 3 torpedos and the ship just keeps going on fire like nothing happened, until you hit the final blow and it sinks, if i remember correctly in previous SH the ships would slowly deteriorate until they sank or repaired.
they are alot of bugs with this game, it is outsanding however and damn it needs a decent graphics card could hardly run on my 8600GT but got a GTS 250 now so its all good and looks truely amazing maxed out. and veroxity about the deck gun when u get your crew to man it make your you look through ur binoculars and right click on the ship you want to shoot then they will start firing, works for me at least but yea very good game

This game is OK. First of all the copy protection sucks. Can't play it unless you're connected to the internet. Also, the interactive crew is useless. There aren't really that many options and they just kinda stand there just like the earlier titles.
Thanks! Btw, you can lower the periscope. :) I was swearing a lot about this myself, but you have to leave the periscope in first person (press the x in the right top corner) view to lower it if you are in external view.
@Veroxity U CAN LOW your periscope with small button delete and the second periscope with Page down :) just push the F1 button and u will see all functions of game :)

Wonderful,amazing,a real great job for this 2 videos.Except for the wrong historycal facts from the game,about the real U-27 & the HMS Valiant stories.
It's still in beta, and lots of stuff is just "dormant", waiting to be activated. Already there's lots of mods out that add this basic functionality, and then some. Subsim is a good place to start.
Unfortunately, I do not buy this game because Ubi decided that u have to install viruses along with this program in order to play the game. And I do not want any viruses, official or inofficial ones on my computer. When your internet connection failed or the Ubi servers don't work, u have to wait. And u paid for this, u know...
Thanks! I really like it, but that may be because i have been away from subs since the early days of SH4. Its no GWX, but it has that undefinable xfactor that SH3 had. You will be annoyed and swear at times, but then you just come back for more Atlantic. (After you install mods to get rid of stupid stuff (IMO) like the halos and speech bubbles, morale, etc)
In short: Its not better than SH3+GWX gameplay wise, but I bet it will be at some point. Did I mention it looks stunning? :)
Good to know.. hopefully in a month or two it will be modded to what it should have been at release :) We are lucky this series has such a bunch of excellent dedicated modders!
Stabiz with those pc specs you should really switch to Windows 7 and leave the long dead XP... Your vga is using about half it's power in XP... Give is us DX11 videos man :)
EPIIIIC!!! It looks like Ubi has some animations that are a little bit laggy...like the bubbles escaping while submerged and the splashes from the bow at the end when you surfaced. UbiSoft should have you advertise for them!
Great movie, nice too see you making SH movies again! You should get the improved atlantic waves mod though, it fixes the boat bobbing up and down like a cork which looks ridiculous tbh. You can find it on the subsim site. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Knut! I think this game runs better at high settings then SH4 did. It might run slower on low settings though, as it is quite a lot better looking than the previous title. Despite the bugs and all, this latest SH has that x-factor I think, I cant put my finger on it, its just fun again.

Looking back to when I was a little lad playing Silent Service II, its amazing how far video games have come.

Then u buy a virus right now, too.
Unfortunately, I do not buy this game because Ubi decided that u have to install viruses along with this program in order to play the game. And I do not want any viruses, official or inofficial ones on my computer. When your internet connection failed or the Ubi servers don't work, u have to wait. And u paid for this, u know...

how are you finding it overall? does it come close to sh3 GWX3.0? If so ill get it today.. im blown away with what you just showed me!

Thanks! I really like it, but that may be because i have been away from subs since the early days of SH4. Its no GWX, but it has that undefinable xfactor that SH3 had. You will be annoyed and swear at times, but then you just come back for more Atlantic. (After you install mods to get rid of stupid stuff (IMO) like the halos and speech bubbles, morale, etc)
In short: Its not better than SH3+GWX gameplay wise, but I bet it will be at some point. Did I mention it looks stunning? :)

Good to know.. hopefully in a month or two it will be modded to what it should have been at release :) We are lucky this series has such a bunch of excellent dedicated modders!

Stabiz with those pc specs you should really switch to Windows 7 and leave the long dead XP... Your vga is using about half it's power in XP... Give is us DX11 videos man :)

EPIIIIC!!! It looks like Ubi has some animations that are a little bit laggy...like the bubbles escaping while submerged and the splashes from the bow at the end when you surfaced. UbiSoft should have you advertise for them!

Thanks! Yeah, but those animations only lag while recording, although other stuff like flags wave fluently. Very strange.

Great movie, nice too see you making SH movies again! You should get the improved atlantic waves mod though, it fixes the boat bobbing up and down like a cork which looks ridiculous tbh. You can find it on the subsim site. Keep up the good work!

When I get this game I would like to make a historical machinima on U-47, under the command of Günther Prien, who you all know what did :)
I have one severe limit though, my computer is really low-end, makes machinima dreams go down the drain.

Thanks, Knut! I think this game runs better at high settings then SH4 did. It might run slower on low settings though, as it is quite a lot better looking than the previous title. Despite the bugs and all, this latest SH has that x-factor I think, I cant put my finger on it, its just fun again.
My specs, btw: Core 2 Duo E8500, 4GB DDR2, ATI HD5870, Win XP Pro SP3.
