quick question how come at the begining you wernt cocking the hamer but after 3-4 shot you didnt cock the hamer is the gun just built that way or is it just up to you?
I think it's double action, so by pulling the trigger it sets the hammer and fires by just the trigger alone. If it has a long, heavy triggerpull, it's harder to shoot accurately. So it's up to you. Either set the hammer manually, or just pull the trigger.

try shooting anything larger tehn a .22 without ear pro. I made teh mistake first time I shot my .45 in my back yard. My ears were ringing for 3 hours afterwards after dropping about 24 rounds. I listen to loud music and stuff like that, so its not cause im a pussy, its cause a gun is fuckin loud when the hammer drops @WhackCheese
The only reason I doubt this video is because there was only a gun flare once. I think that's supposed to happen everytime you fire a gun. or maybe the other flares were so quick I just didn't see them
@Dooterlicious cameras can't always pick up gun flares actually...in the movies they have special equip that syncs with the gun fire to capture the flares if I remember correctly

@jhutcheson4 can you stop going around to peoples shooting videos acting like a know it all? your profile says your 21, but i bet your maybe 11 years old and a wannabe. maybe you should post some videos
JUST placed the order for a new 686-8. Been using club guns for too long and decided to treat myself. Cannot wait to take delivery in about two weeks!!
@Stevespeeze There's nothing angry or threatening of this video. I'm on a range... Permits are not required in Colorado. Do your homework before you make stupid comments.
@Stevespeeze Uh.... It is obviously a public range. Hear the rounds being fired in the background? Even if it wasn't, that sure looks like a rural or unincorporated area to me. Nothing illegal, at least in my state, about firing a weapon in a rural area so long as you do so safely and with the property owners permission.
Eye and ear protection are would be an awesome idea.
@metalgearsolidpros22: The gun in the video is apparently an S&W 686 Plus (Plus meaning 7 shots instead of the stardard 6 found in a model 686). It looks to have a 4" barrel and is made of stainless steel, giving it a weight of near 40 ounces. While .357 Mag is potent, weight matters, and it's not even close to a wrist breaker in a gun that heavy. Felt recoil is directly related to gun weight and a revolver made of steel certainly isn't light.
I can't imagine you'd have any trouble firing a .357 Mag as long as you use a gun that's heavy enough. The one in the video appeared to have a 4" barrel. With a 6" barrel they're quite muzzle-heavy and give you nearly three pounds of steel to absorb recoil. Weight matters -- a heavy gun greatly reduces felt recoil and a long, heavy barrel doesn't jump up much.
i have a 44 and it is a hell of alot lowder then that. and at new years i blasted off a few every body got silent then i shot a twelv gage. we had the lowdest guns in the neigbor hood.
On the contrary. As a man stopper the .357mag is among the very best while still being small/practical enough to be fired from a pistol-sized revolver.
Try putting a lion/bear/wildcat with a .357 and the odds are you'll have your face raped off.
.357 magnum isn't even a large caliber. It's .357 inches, the .40S&W, 10mm, 41mag, 44sp/.44mag, .45ACP, .45 long colt, .50GI, .50AE, .500 magnum are all larger than a .357 magnum. It's a high power load sure, but obviously you don't know anything about it if you think it's large or impractical
Haha are you serious?? A .357 magnum in a large handgun BARELY RECOILS! The most kick you'll get out of a Smith is either the 4" 500 magnum or the airweight .357 magnums (MP340 or 340PD) even those won't hurt you, just give you a sore hand
I was wondering about muzzle flash too, noticing that one or two had a very clear flash and the others had none. I don't know. You might be right about him alternating 357 & 38 rounds in the cylinder.
Unless you're using a very high frame rate, you won't consistently capture muzzle flashes on video because they happen so quickly. Sometimes a frame happens to capture it, sometimes the flash happens between frames and the video equipment doesn't capture it. Hollywood production studios have to use special equipment to time muzzle flashes with the camera shutter speed in order to consistently capture the flashes on film.
I can't see any earplugs, but what's worse is the eye protection shielding his hair and not his eyes. He might want to get some professional training.
@billj696 why eye protection ? it is not that there is going to come a bullet out of the cilinder and goes in your eyes? this is a REVOLVER the worst case that could happen is a jamming
if the cylinder is out of alignment with the barrel, the bullet scrapes the edges of the forcing cone, so pieces of led get scraped off the bullet and pushed out by gases. If that happens anyways you want to get your gun fixed because that can be highly dangerous.
@LavaMountainKat Who said a revolver has a jamming problem? They obvious don't know why many choose one over a 9mm. Revolvers are the most reliable weapons in the world to own. If you jam one, you really have either overused it, or really tried to break it lol. Good safety tip. I would also mention that if you hold it wrong, the gas will burn your hand.
So ur basically saying that hes a bad shot because he doesnt use earplugs and eye protection. Bullshit man... YOU might want some help dude. Jealousy is a bad bad thing.
.357 recoil is not as dramatic as people think, at the most shooting about 20 rounds of some full power loads might make your hand feel alittle sore if the grip on your gun is not to comfortable.
I was wondering if I should get a .357 for home defense for a bit, then thought, why spend all that money for a gun that may be too much for my 5'9",175Lb frame? I'll just keep the .38 my dad left me and use the .38+P Hydra-shock rounds that he also gave me. Don't get me wrong, .357 mags are pretty cool, but a 6" barrel S&W .38 special is nothing to sneeze at either with the right ammo!
Firing a .357 inside without ear protection is not a good idea. At night the flash off of a .357 will blind you for a moment. I have a .45, a .357 and a .38 and would choose my .38 for inside defense.
It's not a question so much wether I can handle it or not, I probably could. I'd just rather stick with what I have and not spend money I don't have on a gun I really don't need(self defense-wise). Like I said, with the right ammo, .38's can be quite deadly! Of course a semi-auto model B Uzi carbine would be cool. I am looking for an M91/30 Mosin Nagant!
Model 686(comes in 6 or 7 shots) Smith and Wesson and are some others like model 620, Just some information all Smith and wesson starting with 6 is stainless. Looking at about $700-750 for a new one

billj696 2 years ago 3
yeah just in case one of the bullet casings manage to fly out of the cylinder into his eye... dangerous
ninth9th 2 years ago 3
@billj696 why eye protection ? it is not that there is going to come a bullet out of the cilinder and goes in your eyes? this is a REVOLVER the worst case that could happen is a jamming
RoyalAlba1 1 year ago
actually revolvers do not really jam, but the cylinder can go out of alignment and shoot led shavings into your eye.
LavaMountainKat 1 year ago 9
@LavaMountainKat i didnt see it happen but you never now every thing can happen these days
RoyalAlba1 1 year ago
if the cylinder is out of alignment with the barrel, the bullet scrapes the edges of the forcing cone, so pieces of led get scraped off the bullet and pushed out by gases. If that happens anyways you want to get your gun fixed because that can be highly dangerous.
LavaMountainKat 1 year ago
@LavaMountainKat ok if that happens you are right
RoyalAlba1 1 year ago
@LavaMountainKat Who said a revolver has a jamming problem? They obvious don't know why many choose one over a 9mm. Revolvers are the most reliable weapons in the world to own. If you jam one, you really have either overused it, or really tried to break it lol. Good safety tip. I would also mention that if you hold it wrong, the gas will burn your hand.

.357 recoil is not as dramatic as people think, at the most shooting about 20 rounds of some full power loads might make your hand feel alittle sore if the grip on your gun is not to comfortable.
LavaMountainKat 2 years ago 2
Most .357 ammo isn't bad at all.
Ever shot buffalo bore ammo? Thats a full house .357 and it stings your hand even in a full sized 686 with a 6 inch barrel.

Bigfurry1975 2 years ago
Firing a .357 inside without ear protection is not a good idea. At night the flash off of a .357 will blind you for a moment. I have a .45, a .357 and a .38 and would choose my .38 for inside defense.
dontlikenumbers 2 years ago
you can handle the .357 mag. if you tone down your reloads for practice ammo the recoil is actually really managable
bearsfan1294 2 years ago
It's not a question so much wether I can handle it or not, I probably could. I'd just rather stick with what I have and not spend money I don't have on a gun I really don't need(self defense-wise). Like I said, with the right ammo, .38's can be quite deadly! Of course a semi-auto model B Uzi carbine would be cool. I am looking for an M91/30 Mosin Nagant!
Bigfurry1975 2 years ago
@bearsfan1294 yeah, i am 14, 5 8 120 lbs, and i can fire a full load 357
