It's called fraud! And there is a statute of limitations running. If there is no investigation, there will be no prosecutions. Once the statute of limitations passes, these guys will never be subject to prosecution,and they will have gotten away with the biggest heist in history.

If a bank gives you a loan knowing full well that you will be unable to pay it back that is fraud? When the rating agency gave AAA ratings to MBS's made up of junk sub-prime loans thats fraud. The whole idea was to earn fees on the origination of the loan and then bundle them up as MBS's and CDO"S and sell them on the market with bogus AAA ratings.
@orionstarman Actually its completely legal to loan money to someone that you know can't pay. Its completely legal to loan someone without doing any credit check at all. Why? Because through all of history its been taken as red that noone would be stupid enough to lend money to people that couldn't pay.
As long as an individual is honest about there financial situation they are free to take ANY amount of loans offered whether they can pay it back or not.
