Sounds like Mr. Pryor was telling you to get the Hell out of Dodge.....
The last thing John Belushi needed was more drugs. For some reason the best talents always seem to be the ones that have the most junk in their systems. Weird.
As a parent and family man, you are privileged to do what you do for a living and be kept from the temptation to do as they did. Family can save your life.
Anyone who thinks you're "Biff" in real life is a fool. You're a mensch.
Did you ever wonder whet was said. What did they talk about? Makes the mind reel. Never knew them.... but funny as hell. Good video. . . Thanks for the story.
WOW! I can't imagine the impact every detail must have left on you after that night. That's something you'll never forget. Sorry but I dont think I can rate this video. Its a GREAT story, but its also so sad that Id feel bad categorizing this as AWESOME! Dont feel bad about taking the handkerchief; its in the right hands now. And Im sure if youre ever in a similar situation again youll know when to leave it behind. It was a real honor to have heard this story Tom. Thanks for shearing!
There isn't much that can move me.... but your story Tom really touched me. Thank you and thanks to John and Richard for giving me something laugh about even when I am down.... Awesome.. thanks again.
But I will have to admit, I was waiting for the punch line. And when you brought out the handkerchief,,, I knew there was a punch line. So it was an even sadder story for me, because I was waiting for a joke.
wow thats sad...to see one of your favorite comedians not know where he is or if he ever been there and then to find out the next day he died that same night you talked to him....
Wow, what a sad story, but so fascinating. It can be pitiful when you literally see or hear of the 'dark side' of celebs you come to admire, but it's also a reminder that we're all just humans and make mistakes. I think it's cool you kept the handkerchief. I imagine you still wonder what Pryor may have been saying to Belushi too. Thanks for sharing this anecdote.
That was an amazing story. I wouldn't feel so bad about keeping the handkerchief, Tom. I am sure if Richard Pryor had known what that simple handkerchief meant to you I am certain he would have wanted you to have it.
Wow Tom, not what I was expecting. Thank you for sharing such a touching story. That hankechief is a good reminder that drugs have robbed us of some very great talents.
aww this was cool and very sweet, why has this week turned into a death fest? everyones mourning someone or another. R.I.P all the fallen heroes and all the fallen Legends of our times, I remember everyone of you with Dignity and Respect
That was a totally engaging story- it went from a very interesting story to a shocking, interesting one. Excellent.

He took that entire encounter as a red - flag warning,( symbolized by Pryor's handkercheif ) since he's still alive, kicking, painting & performing.

John Belushi was long gone even when he was alive. He nearly cut off Buck Henry's ear in a samurai sketch.
Kudos to Richard Pryor for attempting to get through to John. But if Dan Akroyd couldn't do it, no one could. John was already gone.
What a shame.

Showbiz seems to focus on the "show" - but sometimes you should show what's really inside of you. Even in showbiz!
