@egusmc1 They are the Sappers, which are the combat engineers that traditionally "cleared the way" for the rest of the Legion. The dangers of the job gave them privileges, such as beards. The aprons, leather gloves, and axes, were all tools of this traditional task.
I had the great honour to train with 2 Etrangere Parachutiste(2REP)in the '60's. Camp Rafali, Corsica. They were the bravest of the brave. We celebrated Camerone Day with them. What a blast.
Great recovery on the tempo question. Never put the Legion next to the Gurkhas in a parade. One goes slow, the other fast. I personally wouldn't argue with either of them!
If I studied French military command, history, and tactics, along with general world military for most of my childhood and was a novice expert (knowing more than a citizen, but not quite as much as a mid-ranking officer), how fast do you think I could push through the ranks of the FFL to make officer? I'm not saying I've studied that much or am that smart, I'm just curious.
I had the honour of serving along side of La Legionnaires in the early 1970's in the Golan Heights as a UN Peace Keeper. Tough, professional, and honourable men!
@EAFSQ9 ta gueule saloppe. Even if he did stay CCH it's none of your business, some CCH are branleurs, some are really great guys who know their shit, but you are a nobody so stfu.
It is a recording off a record by Principale De La Légion Étrangère, so the assumption is that they were playing. It was an old record. So don't know actually what to think. maybe you are right and it was a compilation of various bands but no others were mentioned.

I made it around 86 beats a minute. Sounds about right to me.
Je considère qu'il est de 86 battements par minute. Sons corrects.

I forgot another wonderful march, the "Finska Rytteriets-Marsch" aka "Swedish Cavalry March".
I should command a regiment, this would become its march!
LongknifeTrooper 11 months ago
Sorry, but I forgot the British "Grenadier Guard March". Also a very good march indeed.

A really beautiful march!
Only our "Garry Owen" and "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" can compare.

C'est pas la Musique de la Legion. Cest une bande municipale ou pareil. Je suis d'accord avec le camarade Wannabgeordie28.

This is NOT right. Le boudien is marched at 88 beats per minute. This is more like the usual marches of other units at around 120 beats.
