It is strange to assume a wild animal will have controlled behaviour, if you ask me the way these tours are made in these open vehicles is dangerous, it will only take a crazy animal or a stupid tourist...

@koilakanthos: It is strange to assume that we do not know what we are doing!!! We study Ethology which is the study of animal behaviour (Google it!) we give the tourists a safety briefing before embarking on a guided nature experience (game drive or walk). The tourists also sign indemnity forms, as with any tour. As for the open vehicles. isn't the whole point of a safari to get closer to the animals? Or am I missing the point here and you have done this before and know better?

@ZxKaLuMxZ: No such thing as a stupid question! Yes they probably could, but the animals are used to seeing vehicles and are not threatend by them, they also do not associate vehicles with prey / food... As long as the tourists stay seated and quiet then it is fine...

Probably a really stupid question but when you say "Game Ranger" does that mean people come in to hunt these animals?

@frostyknickers: No such thing as a stupid question! A Game Ranger / Field Guide offers guided "photographic" safaris to tourists. A PH (Professional Hunter) offers hunting safaris to tourists or hunters, which would be in combination to an outfitter and hosted on a private game farm where hunting is permitted. I hope that answers your question :)

This is due to human encroachment which leads to lack of natural habitat for the lions and their interaction humans and with our livestock and their diseases. Sadly there is no "cure" for this...
