@Dstock8106 Oil is abiotic and is produced in the earth's mantle. Oil is not a "fossil" fuel, and governments around the world now know this. "Abiotic seams" have been discovered in the Gulf of Mexico and Russia and another is being explored in the Rocky Mountains (a reserve with over 2 trillion barrels of oil under extreme pressure). There is no peak oil, and certainly no shortage - what there is a lack of is common sense and political will. We need to harvest this oil now!

I'm also an engineer (perhaps a stupid one), and I recognize design when I see it. You see, the earth's mantle is like a giant shock absorber. It insulates the floating plates we live on from the forces exerted by the counter-rotating mass of semi-liquid metal that moves around its iron core - that creates the EM field that protects us from our own sun. The seams formed by the mid-ocean ridges that circle the entire earth are part of its suspension system. God designed it this way, along with the mantle, to prevent the forces that we'd otherwise experience from causing massive earthquakes. How are we gonna make engines? or even just the seats. Doesnt it take an enormous amount of materials that get shipped, flown and transported all over the world (that's a lot of oil) , and then you have to heat it up or cut it into whatever shape you want (that's a lot of oil)

and of course it takes 8 gallons of oil to make a tire.

and the economic life of rubber trees is 32 years  7 years of immature phase and 25 years of productive phase.

Hydrogen cars are a joke. It creates more problem then it solves. The only thing that needs to be researched furthe for electric cars is the battery capacity and the battery charging time. Electric cars are our only hope. With wind and solar there are no conversion losses you get with hydrogen. With hydrogen cars, you have two big losses. One from electricty (coal or whatever) to hydrogen and then the engine itself. Electric engine is commonly >95% efficient. Hydrogen engine will never reach it.

Only the Hydrogen Economy could have replaced the fossil fuel economy. To do this on a global scale would take a HUGE amount of electricity. To generate that much current we would have to make thousands of square kilometers of solar panels, make millions of wind generators and make thousands geothermal, hydroelectric and tidal power stations. If world leaders were worthy of the name they would have started this process half a century ago. They didnt, and now it is too late.

no, they really do have water powered cars. the just use electricity to separate the hydrogen and water atoms and they use the hydrogen to power the car. just look on youtube.. you can use snow to power your car.

Carrying capacity is a solution to the problem because once it is reached, the life form population immediately suffers dramatic cuts in pop, in our case due to war-disease-famine.

America has the energy resources in terms of substitutes (coal nat gas nuclear), to do pretty well assuming the transition to electric cars stays on schedule. We might need to annex western Canada, that's about it.

Things like transitioning to electric cars will take longer than we hope. The technology in electric cars is still weak. You can only go 200 miles on one charge and it takes eight hours to fully recharge. Until those numbers improve, we won't see any kind of change in infrastructure promoting electric cars. I personally don't think it will happen in the next ten years. Look at all the promise behind hydrogen cars five years ago and today there is still no infrastructure backing it.

Water will take a lot longer then 30 years. And its really a locality problem rather then a global problem. Have to destroy water tables through pollution or more likely overuse. I think we'll reach the human carrying capacity (probably something like 12-18 billion or less) before we hit that point, and as a result will be able to manage that resource without self destructing.

Peak oil is probably coming within the next 15-20 years, the crisis will probably occur 10 years after that.

Yes water shortage will not occur soon, but its no a locality problem (it only takes 1 country to start a war, 1 strongly supported political party, individual area representatives, the people = it all starts from local) if we do hit that point do you really think we would be able to manage resources? i mean we have already let us hit that point, theres no stopping us.

oil crisis will come sooner but it will be short, all we need to do is take over a few countries, and not export oil.
