Here is an analogy that helped me understand this issue:
"The differences among flowers that are growing in fertile ground will be mainly due to genotype [genetic inheritance] differences, whereas differences among flowers growing in less fertile ground will be due to quality of the added care [by the environment] (e.g., water, fertilizer) given to these flowers." ~Daniel P. Keating
@magox1 But what good is fertile ground to the flower that recieves little sun? (spirituality). The flower that thrives in poor soil (weeds), but much sun, will do better. Weed flowers don't grow in the presense of the luxurious rose, and in most cases aren't cared for,but they are very resilient, and will continue to thrive long after that pampered pansies have died.
You are assuming that there is a separation between outcomes of genetic expression and environmental factors. Epigenetics, which is what this documentary is really about, make this divide null and void.
We now know that environmental factors a person is exposed to now, can affect their ancestors for about 3 to 4 generations. That all we have the records to show now, but with mice we've been able to show environmental effects for around 5-6 generations.
There is another name for it actually, and it was and still is being used for political purposes. Lysenkoism and It is no more real science than is creationism. It basically states that giraffes acquired long necks because their ancestors stretched to reach for food. If you still believe this you are high or retarded. If you have proof that a naturally thin person who stuffs himself fat will have naturally fat children I would love to see it.
