I think Helvenston knew it was a suicide mission. Before he made his journey to fallujah he sent an email, complaining to blackwater. Also there was a guy called McQuown (blackwaters head trainer) who had a grudge against Scott. McQuown changed his task on purpose. When scott protested, some of his colleges he trained with offered to step in and take on the task, instead of Helvenston. But Mcqueen refused.
