I think you did a great job on this. I can tell you I wish AW were still on too. It was, and always will be my favorite soap. I watched it for 18 of its 35 year run, and now wish I had seen it from day one. I met all the stars from the show, and they were all very warm and inviting, especially Victoria Wyndham, Charles Keating, Linda Dano, and Anna Stuart.

Am I the only one that thought AW was showing improvement and gaining momentum towards the end of its run? I thought some of the show's best material was from 1992-1995. Yes, it went down hill the last year as the execs had to start cutting cast members, but unlike GL, which had been sliding for years up to its cancellation, AW had actually been improving in quality.

About the only improvement I could think of is at the end, when the words come in, you have the original circle of rings coming out.

Hard 2 believe dat it has been 10 years since "Another World" got da plug pulled after 35 years on NBC. Fans still miss those "AW" days b/c I sure do. I'd watched it when I was little & everythin' includin' da theme song brings back my childhood. Much luv "AW!!!"

AW was cancelled deliberately because NBC didn't own the show completely. It shared it w/Proctor & Gamble. NBC wanted the show to morph into a clone of DAYS w/fanciful plots (a la Jordan Stark) & more focus on the youths. P&G wanted to keep its veterans. So NBC instead had people fired, like Alice Barrett, Charles Keating, Anna Holbrook, etc. all in an effort to dismantle the show's viewership so that it'd look like it had just cause to be cancelled (low ratings). Victoria Wyndham spoke of this.

When NBC canned AW, that one move alone marked the beginning of why NBC has been bleeding in the daytime ratings game for the last 9 years now.

Passions, the show that filled AW's former time slot had a respectable run, but even Passions couldn't help stop NBC's bleeding ratings.

When Passions itself got the boot, NBC continued to bleed in the ratings game, which still happens to them now. Nowadays all NBC has is Days and more hours of the Today Show.

What I find amazing is the number of fans of these canceled soaps that gather on youtube to either post their creative spin on a present opening theme or just to stroll down memory lane. I think it's possible to get "some" of these soaps back if more people campaign for their return. With two new networks plus FOX I can't see why they couldn't take a gamble.. You've gotta believe if FOX would dominate daytime. FOX line would be Another World, The New Edge Of Night, and Search of Tomorrow.

I wish they would bring back Another World, but FOX is not the network to tkae it on. Before Another World ended FOX was approached about taking it on. It almost passed, but they denied it. So the show ended completely. I still miss this show, so much. I was raised on it. My mother, grandmas, and two older sisters watched the show. I was glad it had the happy ending. I wish a return would happen but after almost ten years, don't think it will.

it didn't really get canned for Passions because Sunset Beach was the show actually replaced it first, then that went off the air after like a year or something and then Passions came on.

Sorry to inform you, but it did get canned for Passions. Sunset beach, Days then Another world was the line up for the last two years of Another World. NBC axed Another World first and gave Sunset Beach three extra months to improve ratings or be canned. That is why Sunset Beach ended. Another World's time slot within one week was filled by Passions. I have became a fan of Passions, but fought it for the first year Passions was one because it ended AW.

that's not what i remember... i used to watch both AW and Days all the time and when they took off AW, they moved Days up and hour because it used to come on at 2pm and then Sunset Beach came on after it. then after Sunset beach went off the air Passions came on.

AWfan4ever is right. Another World was cancelled in June 1999 and Passions debuted a week later. Sunset Beach didn't last air until December 1999. So there were a few months when Passions and Sunset Beach co-existed. It's sad but I don't see why NBC couldn't keep all FOUR shows on at once and build a soap line-up to compete with other networks. Imagine that...Passions at 12:30 (it could be a half hour), Days at 1PM, Another World at 2, and Sunset Beach at 3PM!! Sounds like a plan to me!

Well for some reason NBC is notorious for cancelling their soaps and not giving any promotion...i.e. Santa Barbara (1984-93) and Generations (1989-91). And then they only have DAys left and they renew that show on yearly basis. So the cast and crew are literally left wondiering each year if they will have a job the next year!  That's not right at all!
