Wish I had shop like this where I live. $99 for a Mosin!? lucky to find one that does not have dark wood, mis-match & look like crap, & they want $150 or more. I started off buying guns from them.Told them 5 guns(rifles) I was willing to buy from them at one time, they never even gave me any prices. I asked a few times. I even had to do transfers to some other place local cheaper. Sad part is I went to HS with the owner. They lost lots & lots of biz with me. I support someone elses local shop
It took me a while to find a good gun shop in Virginia. I have noticed a lot (if not most) people who work at gun shops are a bit ill tempered. I always felt like I was wasting there time the way they talked to me. I don't get it, if I got to play with new guns everyday AND carry at work I would always be in a good mood :)
My favorite gun shop went to hell, when the old guys that ran it for several years, retired
or died off, and left it to their dick head sons to run, The old guys would give you a fair trade in amount for your gun, give you a break on ammo or supplies, and were friendly and easy to talk to. The sons are rude and arrogant, and unless you own or are buying a expensive gun , they really don't want to talk to you.
Lucky u. Our local shops sux. Most of the employee hide from you or pretend to be busy talking to their buddies. The prices are always expensive. They just don't know how to treat a paying customer. One guy charged me almost 2 bills for transfering 2 relics even when I returned the 2 items to the sender. He promised to return some of the fees but later reneged on it cuz he said he had to pay taxes.. That pissed me off.
I finally found a local FFL that is decent and honest transfer prices.
The guys at my local gun shop around Ft. Bragg treat me great, been going there for about 15 years and they don't give me a "discount". They actually just knock the tax off what I buy.
you have no idea how lucky you are. people like me are almost forced to buy stuff online. in new england rifles are overpriced, ive seen wasr 10 go for 550! their variety sucks. and many of the dealers here try to gouge.
im still trying to find a decent ak74. but i dont want to pay up the ass for an arsenal. i think there overpriced. and i dont want a key holing century arms.
the few dealers i like i do buy from them when possible. but its mostly rape here.
I've gad good customer service so far with Guns Galore in Killeen, TX and Jackson Guns & Ammo in Rochester, NY. Prices might not be as low as from Gander, but I'd rather pay an extra $30 for good customer service
I always get better customer service from the family owned gunshops. But then again it really depends on who is working that day. One day at Gander, i had an employee let me handle every gun i wanted. The next day i came back cause i was curious if prices changed. I got no customer service at all. I asked one of the employees a question about a gun and his response was to laugh at me and talk to another customer
I don't know of any locally owned gun shops in or around Baton Rouge with that kind of selection, and all the ones I know have prices jacked WAY the fuck up, like $1250 for a used USP 45 or $1600 for a used ACOG TA31. Shit is outrageous man.
The only reason I don't support my local gunshop is because the guy seems like the head-in-his-ass holier-than-thou kinda guy who unless you are on a firstname basis with, he gives you the cold shoulder
and his hilariously overpriced gear, like $750 for a Gen2 G17 and nearly $30 for an uncle mikes holster...
Generally, I value customer-service alot, so I'm willing to pay full price and/or give a tip if I get the proper treatment.
That in turn, very often is getting me some very good, sometimes unbeatable deals without EVER asking for it. It's even gotten so far that I have to force them to take my tips. Obviously I will continue to support my local Gunshop.
I'm from Switzerland by the way, where prices are high and Gunshops are tiny compared to you lucky bastards in the US ;-)
You are indeed lucky! If I had a gun shop of that magnitude near me, I'd live there. There's nothing remotely like that where I live. I do support what shops are around here, but that mostly involves having them order something for me, which gives me little more advantage than just cold ordering online. Still, even if it's for a bit more money, I try to go through my local shops.
Enjoy having that place nearby - it's the exception, not the rule.
My local gun shop kinda sucks. Dong's in Tulsa has decent inventory, and the prices aren't as horrible as I've seen some places, but the folks (aside from one employee) that run it aren't personable. They own the shop, they know their stuff, and they have no use for young people, newbies, or anyone that isn't one of their good ol' boys. I avoid going there unless I absolutely must get something that only they have.
@3cl3c71k0r Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like that place. I've been shooting for years but I'm still in my early twenties.....thus to them I'm an idiot that has to be followed around the stores.
Their prices are normally good, but the employees (With the exception of one of the gentlemen) are rude and insulting. I've seen them flat out lie to a new shooter to sell them a gun. Even worse their safety practices are lacking. I got muzzled at least once every visit.
I have to agree with what some of the others are saying in their comments, although I would love to support my local gun store sometimes it's just hard to do when the prices are so unreasonably high and the selection is very small not to mention the service is completely unfriendly due to the fact I don't show up in flannel, I'm not 50 years old, and I have an interest in modern firearms aka "tactical" weapons. Plus I've almost always had great experiences with ordering online and most of thes
The two local gun shops couldn't be more different. One is a small shop that has a small inventory. They focus primarily on their indoor pistol range. The other shop is very well stocked but is so busy most days its hard to find parking and you have to take a number to get service. When your number comes up you feel very rushed to make decisions because the queue is so long behind you. I wish I had something more in-between that wasn't an hour away.
I get all my ammo from the local gun store. Slightly more expensive then buying it at wal-mart or whatever, but that's a good trade for a much better selection and great staff who I can shoot the shit with for a couple of hours.
great vid as always, Valpo is about a 1 1/2 hr drive for me, but with the selection they have its gonna be worth the drive... man i wish i had a shop close that had that kind of inventory. keep up the good vids... p.s. would love more ACR footage!
That looks like a very nice LGS and I agree that you should try to support your local gun shop.
But.....those at the LGS need to do their part. Lousy customer service, hugely inflated prices and a lack of knowledge behind the counter has caused me to buy from a gun show instead of a LGS more than once.
If you want my money then I expect reasonable customer service despite being bored, sick of customer and tired of answering the same questions over and over.
When selections are limited and prices are high, it leads me to no other choices but to shop online. If there is a local gun store similar to yours in my area, I would have no problem supporting them. But until then, I will take my business online.
I always did and will continue to do so. I'm lucky to have an excellent gunsmith with workshop and own testing shooting range right around the corner. Prices for guns are a bit higher, but since i told him: hey, look at this and that offer online, he offers me the same price if he can :)
Advice and service from and experienced gunsmith is priceless. You just cant get that on the internet.
that reminds me. i want a mosin. unfortunately the gun shop with the highest selection is run by total assholes. but theres a new one near my house that hopefully turns out different.
I can agree with supporting local shops and disagree, I have been going to one store four over 4 years. There turn around on employees is not a good sign on how they treats there employees, plus hearing first hand from the X employees leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, Then there is another store that is about an hour drive away from me.I been going there drooling over there new products. Most of the employees are starting to recognize me and call me by my name, It really is based on management
I loathe the local gun store. They just opened and I don't know how they plan to stay in business. They pitched a fit when a buddy of mine took out his phone in the gun room to look up a gun he was interested in but could not remember the exact model. The guy started yelling about ATF regulations! Then they want to see your purchasers card before letting you handle a gun. I don't think they will be around for long!
Yeah, I support my local gun shop, but my local gun shop doesn't support me.
Their prices are inflated, the owner is a BS con artist and his staff could not care less if I never came back, despite the fact that I have spent thousands of dollars there.
Gun shops are like every other business. They're in it for the profits and nothing more. Nothing wrong with that but I will not offer my loyalty to another persons bottom line.
We need to support local gun shops just like ALL local businesses facing the likes of Wal Mart. When the only choice becomes a "big box" store, you're limited in selection & quality. Cheap pricing drives everything. Does anyone seriously think WM will sell used guns, good holsters, 1st rate ammo, etc.? Even sporting chains like Gander Mountain leave much to be desired in selection.
Want to test fire a possible purchase? Not at WM, Cabela's or Bass Pro. You can at many local shops.
Have to say that im envious of your ffl very nice. I live in the republic of new jersey and there are only a few good gun shops in the state so i drive the hour to buy and shoot there. I Have to drive in to PA sometimes for guns and ammo walmart, Cabela's thats a 3 hour round trip. New jersey Walmarts do not sell guns and ammo.
I had a gunshop but the ATF shut him down for messing up on a 4473 from years back while they were doing an audit recently (which itself was suspected to be a targeted audit to put him out of business). Now a new guy moved into the same location but he just buys sells Armscor 22lr rifles and HiPoint pistols. Oh and he buys the hunting crap from walmart and resells it same with their ammo. No, never going to support him. I buy online out of state (to avoid Missouri sales tax on Grafs and Midway).
Good video. Wish I had a gunshop that complete near me. Always excellent advice to support these businesses.
Have been looking for a review on the good old SKS carbines. I checked your site and Nutn's site and not a single review on this fine old military carbine. Any plans to ever do a review on these?
Your area really has a fully stocked gun store. In north MS shops only have new arms at high prices and one big chain treats walk-ins like crap unless you are a cop & they kiss their you know.
Great shop and video, hope they hook you up cause this is better than any commercial they could dream up. I like the idea behind of this video as voting with your dollars might be more effective than voting in a booth when it comes down to it, we need to keep these brick and mortar locations in business especially ones like this that are doing it right. Keep it up ; we need people like you who can give the information without being overly vulgar/ offtopic, tacticool, biased or unsafe etc..
I try to support them ( I do most of the time) but some of them also mark up the prices of the guns way too much...and because of that they drive me away to either larger stores or chain stores..for ammo and certain guns..
I support a number of local shops, as well as work at one. Developing relationships with members of the community is a valuable asset, especially when you are looking for a particular firearm or accessory. We are all about personalized service, and it shows with repeat business... plus it's fun! Thanks for the great vid!
You hit the nail on the head Strumgewehre. I love my local gun shop and they are always so helpful. Too bad they are a tad over price, but they do have top notch service.
i have been pretty lucky in the past though, since i live within short driving distance from aimsurplus, but they shortened their customer counter windo to a single day mid-week, when i work, so now i'll just have to be another internet customer
I've been on the hunt for a good medium sized gun store, but I echo the same problems others have said, the stores around here are hole in the wall that operate part time, so there is no inventory, or they are so big you can't get time to just talk to the fellas working there. One of the Vance Sporting goods stores up by my folks' house is so big they make you take a number. I don't think the Cincy Bass Pro even sells used guns direcly, just a swap online site.
That is a very nice shop. I have never set foot in a indoor range, never seen that kind of selection, and wouldnt dare walk in and whip out my guns to test holster fit. The guys around here are friendly enough but they arent like their fathers and grandfathers were before them. Its sad really. Feels almost like Wallmart. Buy a gun just to have them esscort you out. I do support them when I can tho. If for nothing more than a cool place to hide from work....
FUCK NO! I don't support my local gun shops, living in Las Vegas they jack the prices up for all the tourists. I only support them during an apocalypse!
Ur local gunshop is awesome dude mine does not have as much inventory they do have a range I use the range but when someone opens the door to the rifle range they bump into you if u happen to have the range near the door. They r also rip off a gun that sells for $700 on internet they sell for $900 even their used guns are overpriced. Ammo I can get at
Walmart for $11 cost 15 etc. The gunsmith can't reduce tigger travel on my gun cuz he does not have the tools to modify guns. so i shop internet
@clubtc05 I buy used guns at my local shop because I can check them out before buying them. I've been burned a few times buying used guns on the net so I try to avoid it if possible. But some guns you just can't find locally and you have to take your chances online.
I try to give my local shop a chance to "match" anything I might otherwise buy on the net--meaning they can add 10-15% above the total internet price (incl. shipping). Also, I never, ever bother the sales staff when they are busy unless I have a real intention of buying. If they are busy and I know I'm not going to buy from them..., that's almost like stealing. If they're not busy I just try to be upfront about the internet deal I saw and tell them I'll give them a shot at matching the deal.
@scooter17568 I bought a few guns form Blythes and got a better deal there because I go in every so often to drop by and look and buy a little something from a few dollar targets to a gun. At most gunstores they wont match prices to people they dont know its a weird thing I feel you if a store is busy. Blythes is always super busy last time I was in there was to pick up my handgun they let me pay on for almost a year no intrest or anything. and you could hardly walk in there
@iowndunoob I'm pretty lucky that my local gun shop guy shoots at the same range I do. He's also a smith so he gets all my fix-it biz. If I find a great deal elsewhere, he actually encourages me.
@scooter17568 Hey scooter, yeah that sounds like a sweet deal knowing him outside the shop and hes your gunsmith, thats cool that he encourages you =) most guys are not so cool
Great vid and very good point! I support my LGS whenever possible! Unfortunately nothing like Blythes in SFL... I need to hit about 20 pawn shops to get the variety that your one store has!
The problem with local gun shops in my area is there aren't enough of them to properly compete. I live in the NY city area so the laws are so restrictive that a lot of them have closed. The ones that are still around have virtual monopolies and price accordingly, which is usually high, more so if you want to do a transfer in certain stores. And if you aren't a shop regular or a cop you are viewed with arrogant disdain or suspicion. I have to shop for non gun stuff online out of necessity.
@XBZ9 You haven't watched too many of my videos then. I've posted less than flattering reviews of a number of items. You just enjoy trolling and thus, you're gone.
i like having a relationship with my local gun shop but you run into alot of works that are the gu snobs from the firearms fourms and frankly dicks but some people are good people and have helped me out alot
I would and I do, support local gunshop, unless opening hours and prices are too hard to digest. Some items I just have to order from internet, due to poor availability.
My local gun shops couldnt careless about service. I ordered a rock river AR-15 took 6 months to ship I go to check in and see if it was there only to find out they "accidentally" fucking sold it. Went to another shop and re ordered 4 months to go...
Very true about being a regular customer and getting good deals. I've shopped at Blythes for 21 years now and they treat me and my friends right. I used to go to Fetlas too. Kinda a different story there but I still used to enjoy it...
There are things a local gun shop doesn't have that the Internet does. The one thing that has kept me away from buying from my local gun shop until recently, is the price of certain firearms. One gun shop has a Saiga IZ-240; a rifle I'd love to have. But it's priced approximately $100 more than how much many online dealers sell it. And I can only afford layaway, which means I would never be able to pay it off in 90 days. And you're right about the Mosin. I bought one last week from my local shop
I always give my local gun shop a chance, if they can come close to the on-line price, they'll get my business. Many times they can't, but are happy to do the transfer.
i support my 2 local gun/knife shops the best i can.. but some items are marked up sooooooo much im taking 50% more then anybody online.. i cant justify me becoming poorer while the local gun shop owner gets richer Oh and ammo Spyderco delica vg10, gunshop? 90 bucks! online 55 bucks. Marlin 795 22Lr Gunshop price? 210 Bucks!! So i got it at Dicks instead for 120.. But on decent deals not marked up to much i will pay a slight bit more for the services...
I live in a very small town and the LGS is just too small to be able to walk in and do the things you can do. He is doing everything he can to survive, but in talking to him the other day, he is evaluating his options to stay in business. The internet is just changing things for small town store owners. He doesn’t have the money, volume of business or space to keep any kind of inventory. To get to a store like yours, well, I just don’t know of any within a days drive. You are lucky.
Great video brother, always top-notch videos from you Sturm. Appreciate the hard work and professionalism you put into all of your videos. Still one of my go to channels, God bless.
I would support a local gun store if they weren't all run by arrogant jackasses. My experience with gun shops in S.E. Michigan is that the owners/employees behave as if they are doing you a favor by letting you walk into their store. The only other options for brick and mortar shops are Bass Pro and Cabelas. I buy from out of state dealers and have them ship to my local FFL.
@makman1962 -unfortunately that is my exact experience too, although I'm in another part of the country. I would LOVE the opportunity to pay a bit more to support a local establishment, if only there was one that deserved it. I am certain a gun shop has a few unique challenges- but it's still a business.
additionally, texas charges a sales tax on items sold. therefore a $500 gun at the local shop costs $550. state of texas does NOT charge tax on transfers of any kind, so an online dealer that has the same gun for $480 with free shipping (not unheard of), can be transferred for $20 through a friend (That is his standard rate, i do not get "deals" since he is starting out as an FFL). so i save $40 doing it that way. if the local shops reduced markup a bit, and were more freindly, id shop there.
well sir, you are very lucky. the local shops here do not offer that sort of service. one is the 2nd half of a pawn shop and is usually understaffed. they sell suppressors of a VERY large manufacturer and ive stood around for 45 mins after asking for help and no one helped me. ive gone in with the intention of showing a friend a certain gun they were interested it to get shrugged off
the 2nd is VERY small (a corner of an ace hardware) the other is a small room near outdoor range.
I agree, face time gets respect from the owners. Where I recently moved from I visited the local gun shop often and used the outdoor range. Also bought ammo and guns from them. Always cut me great deals. Now where I live, I visit this great shop at least every two weeks. Talk with them alot and make purchases. Great people.
I too support Blythe's in Valpo. I live just outside Mich. City &every gun I purchased came from Blythe's. Selection is outstanding & the sales people are A+. Mike will tell it like it is & point you in the right direction regarding firearms. No BS EVER..
I would buy more local but most stores are poorly stocked and what they do carry is usually a piss poor mix of NCSTAR and Bushmaster. I have to order on line to get quality gear and not crap.
no i dont support my local gun shop bc they jack the prices out the roof, they have Mosin Nagants for like $150. They have my XD 9mm for like 100 more dollars than what i paid for online
You are lucky to have a nice gun shop like that locally. The ones around my area are not even half that size. They don't really have much to choose from.
Prices are kinda high in some areas, as demand is high also.
What I like most about my closest gunshop, Gerry's Sport Shop, is that all long guns are out in the open, want to compare a SCAR to a ACR, just walk over and pick them both up start comparing!
If I had a local shop like this, I would buy from it. The local shops in my area, and the surrounding area charge over 25% the MSRP, don't offer any decent price points on trade ins, and have little overall knowledge...sadness*
Another great video. I love my local gun shops around the Detroit area. There are six I probably stop in each week for all the same reasons you mentioned. You are right on the money. Support your local gun shop. Thank you.
you have a great gunshop. mine is small so the in store collection but the owners are great and will order you just about anything for a lower price than anywhere else. I recently bought a custom savage model 16 msrp for around $1000 but with a kimber 1911 trade in i only paid 200 for the rifle and i ordered in a leupold scope msrp 750 bucks, that they special ordered. They even gave me over half off on scopes/rings/mounts, and set it up for free. overall great guys, I love my gun shop
I buy my firearms from cabelas in omaha nebraska. Very helpful with a great selection. Guns Unlimited is a gun shop here and they suck. Period. Horrible customee service.
Good points, all. I am actually willing to pay more at a local gun shop (within reason) than what I am willing to pay for on line. This is because I appreciate local shops keeping the inventory that I can see up close and hold in my hand before I buy--that's worth something.
I go to the local gun show sometimes, mainly for mags/accessories. Since lots of the people selling are actually small businesses, I think it's a great way to support local gun shops and still get a great selection of stuff.
I am in NJ and the gun shop that I went to here was so bad that it took me from '93 til 2011 for me to go back in the store. They were jackasses that seemed to be offended that I was in their store. I was told that if I didn't have a Firearms ID I couldn't even touch the SIG220 that I wanted to see, they said it was NJ law. I asked many different people including police officers and was told that was BS. They moved and new owners have taken over I my buy from them now but I still may by online.
@mrtlsimon When I first moved to Illinois many years ago I walked into a gun store called GAT Guns. I walked up to the counter and asked to see a handgun. The guy looked at me like I was crazy and said, "don't you have your FOID card?" I probably had a blank stare going on because I didn't understand what he just asked me. FOID? Firearm Owners ID card. It's the law in Illinois that you can't even touch a pistol without having your FOID card and present it.
@Sturmgewehre I was fine if that was the state law,it was the fact that the people there were giving me an attitude that I was not welcome in their shop. I had just gotten out of the USMC and my last duty station was in NC and the guys in the shops down there were great, but up here I got an uneasy feeling. But I moved on and now I'm in the market for a few firearms so I will see if things have changed. If not there is always online ordering, one of the officers at work has an FFl.
@Sturmgewehre i goto gat alot actually its decent some of the guys are down to earth and pretty cool others not so much. But there surplus ammo prices are pretty high for some calibers but yet again there the only ones who carry it
I support mine but unfortunately they got robbed about a month ago. 90 guns were stolen and 5-6 of them full auto. Not good for the anti gun nuts out there!
The guys at my local gun shop are full of shit.... They force their opinions down your throat and argue with you if you have a different opinion, mind you im being totally casual im not being disrespectful or anything, theres a great gun shop about 20 miles from my house and i give them all the business i can, unfortunately they dont have much selection because they make most of their money off of ccw classes
Local gun shops prices are too high!!! Why support them when they wnt help you!!! They would get more business of they would come down on the prices just a little bit. Geez
Im pretty new into firearms (just turned 21) and for awhile all I would go to was the big box sport stores (Dicks, Big 5 ect.) but when I was looking to buy my first handgun I decided to go look around at some local shops. The difference was night an day, it was so nice to be greeted and be able to converse with the folks behind the counter for awhile. My shop created a loyal customer that day and I get a lot of satisfaction spending my money at a business that I truly want to support.
I support my local shops range but not the shop itself. The prices are suggested retail or higher and no willingness to haggle. The last time I made a very reasonable offer on a handgun the guy just laughed and walked away!If he's not interested then I buy elsewhere! No need for me to loose money! Their range charges $20 an hour too,and it's always full so they're doing fine. Will be moving to Indiana soon so maybe I'll have better luck there.
Whoa! your in Valpo? I had no idea! I'm in Michigan city, Indiana. Anyways the only gun shop we have here is Kempf's and he and everyone that he has working there treat you like shit just for wanting to come in the store. I have to go to Maple city in laporte or Blythe's in valpo to do any shopping. But hopefully soon the tactical/survival store called Citadel Tactcal Solutions will be getting their FFL and sell firearms. The people there are super nice and helpful.
@theemperor0 Yeah, Kempf has a unique personality for sure. But I shop there for loading supplies. The prices on powder and stuff aren't bad. I just don't try to have a conversation with him, he doesn't like to talk much. I just heard about Citadel today and look forward to swinging by out there to check them out.
@Sturmgewehre That's for sure. Yeah it's not terrible priced there, the only thing I have a problem with is he is the distributor for like everything east of Mississippi for the brand of reloading stuff he sales. So there's not real competitive prices to keep the from jacking up the prices if he felt like it. You should defiantly check them out sometime. They aren't open on Sundays or Mondays, and close at 5-6pm on the days they're open.
I support my local gun shop by frequenting their indoor range often and that leads to the occasional impulse buy. Like many here are stating they have steeper prices usually retail on most gun stickers but they also do sales were their prices are lower than most of the stuff you can find online on certain firearms.
Like the host said in this video getting to know your counter guys at the local gun shop can make a difference of 100-150 on your next gun purchase.
Wow, I'm down just south of Indianapolis and I have a local shop that I love. The place is Elmore's in Greenwood and the guys in there are amazing, they are like family I am in there so much. You may have seen on the news they were robbed last week, someone drove a stolen suv through the front. luckily the owner locks up 99% of the guns every single night, they only got two. It's so important to support you local shop, usually you can only save $30 or so buying online...not worth it!
One is over priced
The other, has odd business schedule

Wish I had shop like this where I live. $99 for a Mosin!? lucky to find one that does not have dark wood, mis-match & look like crap, & they want $150 or more. I started off buying guns from them.Told them 5 guns(rifles) I was willing to buy from them at one time, they never even gave me any prices. I asked a few times. I even had to do transfers to some other place local cheaper. Sad part is I went to HS with the owner. They lost lots & lots of biz with me. I support someone elses local shop

I've gad good customer service so far with Guns Galore in Killeen, TX and Jackson Guns & Ammo in Rochester, NY. Prices might not be as low as from Gander, but I'd rather pay an extra $30 for good customer service
docjekyll2002 1 month ago
I always get better customer service from the family owned gunshops. But then again it really depends on who is working that day. One day at Gander, i had an employee let me handle every gun i wanted. The next day i came back cause i was curious if prices changed. I got no customer service at all. I asked one of the employees a question about a gun and his response was to laugh at me and talk to another customer

I don't know of any locally owned gun shops in or around Baton Rouge with that kind of selection, and all the ones I know have prices jacked WAY the fuck up, like $1250 for a used USP 45 or $1600 for a used ACOG TA31. Shit is outrageous man.
walkwithmeinhell09 1 month ago
The only reason I don't support my local gunshop is because the guy seems like the head-in-his-ass holier-than-thou kinda guy who unless you are on a firstname basis with, he gives you the cold shoulder
and his hilariously overpriced gear, like $750 for a Gen2 G17 and nearly $30 for an uncle mikes holster...
Mack7830 2 months ago

Enjoy having that place nearby - it's the exception, not the rule.
crunchysuperman 2 months ago
My local gun shop kinda sucks. Dong's in Tulsa has decent inventory, and the prices aren't as horrible as I've seen some places, but the folks (aside from one employee) that run it aren't personable. They own the shop, they know their stuff, and they have no use for young people, newbies, or anyone that isn't one of their good ol' boys. I avoid going there unless I absolutely must get something that only they have.
3cl3c71k0r 2 months ago
@3cl3c71k0r Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like that place. I've been shooting for years but I'm still in my early twenties.....thus to them I'm an idiot that has to be followed around the stores.
Their prices are normally good, but the employees (With the exception of one of the gentlemen) are rude and insulting. I've seen them flat out lie to a new shooter to sell them a gun. Even worse their safety practices are lacking. I got muzzled at least once every visit.
oldannyboy37 2 months ago
I have to agree with what some of the others are saying in their comments, although I would love to support my local gun store sometimes it's just hard to do when the prices are so unreasonably high and the selection is very small not to mention the service is completely unfriendly due to the fact I don't show up in flannel, I'm not 50 years old, and I have an interest in modern firearms aka "tactical" weapons. Plus I've almost always had great experiences with ordering online and most of thes
Vandenberghe1986 2 months ago
The two local gun shops couldn't be more different. One is a small shop that has a small inventory. They focus primarily on their indoor pistol range. The other shop is very well stocked but is so busy most days its hard to find parking and you have to take a number to get service. When your number comes up you feel very rushed to make decisions because the queue is so long behind you. I wish I had something more in-between that wasn't an hour away.
00Klingon 2 months ago
You're fortunate to have such a well stocked gun shop.
McMeatBag 2 months ago
I get all my ammo from the local gun store. Slightly more expensive then buying it at wal-mart or whatever, but that's a good trade for a much better selection and great staff who I can shoot the shit with for a couple of hours.
neebs1992 2 months ago
great vid as always, Valpo is about a 1 1/2 hr drive for me, but with the selection they have its gonna be worth the drive... man i wish i had a shop close that had that kind of inventory. keep up the good vids... p.s. would love more ACR footage!
rosssheetmetal 2 months ago
That looks like a very nice LGS and I agree that you should try to support your local gun shop.
But.....those at the LGS need to do their part. Lousy customer service, hugely inflated prices and a lack of knowledge behind the counter has caused me to buy from a gun show instead of a LGS more than once.
If you want my money then I expect reasonable customer service despite being bored, sick of customer and tired of answering the same questions over and over.
Tedkennedysswimcoach 2 months ago
When selections are limited and prices are high, it leads me to no other choices but to shop online. If there is a local gun store similar to yours in my area, I would have no problem supporting them. But until then, I will take my business online.
megahypez 2 months ago
Support your local dealer :D
I always did and will continue to do so. I'm lucky to have an excellent gunsmith with workshop and own testing shooting range right around the corner. Prices for guns are a bit higher, but since i told him: hey, look at this and that offer online, he offers me the same price if he can :)
Advice and service from and experienced gunsmith is priceless. You just cant get that on the internet.

TheTacticalShooter 2 months ago

I live in the republic of new jersey and there are only a few good gun shops in the state so i drive the hour to buy and shoot there. jojothepirate87 2 months ago

I don't think the Cincy Bass Pro even sells used guns direcly, just a swap online site.
moicus29 2 months ago
That is a very nice shop. I have never set foot in a indoor range, never seen that kind of selection, and wouldnt dare walk in and whip out my guns to test holster fit. The guys around here are friendly enough but they arent like their fathers and grandfathers were before them. Its sad really. Feels almost like Wallmart. Buy a gun just to have them esscort you out. I do support them when I can tho. If for nothing more than a cool place to hide from work....

If they're not busy I just try to be upfront about the internet deal I saw and tell them I'll give them a shot at matching the deal.
scooter17568 2 months ago
@scooter17568 I bought a few guns form Blythes and got a better deal there because I go in every so often to drop by and look and buy a little something from a few dollar targets to a gun. At most gunstores they wont match prices to people they dont know its a weird thing I feel you if a store is busy.

I buy from out of state dealers and have them ship to my local FFL.
makman1962 2 months ago 7
@makman1962 -unfortunately that is my exact experience too, although I'm in another part of the country. I would LOVE the opportunity to pay a bit more to support a local establishment, if only there was one that deserved it. I am certain a gun shop has a few unique challenges- but it's still a business.
porcine83 2 months ago
additionally, texas charges a sales tax on items sold. therefore a $500 gun at the local shop costs $550. state of texas does NOT charge tax on transfers of any kind, so an online dealer that has the same gun for $480 with free shipping (not unheard of), can be transferred for $20 through a friend (That is his standard rate, i do not get "deals" since he is starting out as an FFL). so i save $40 doing it that way. if the local shops reduced markup a bit, and were more freindly, id shop there.

well sir, you are very lucky. the local shops here do not offer that sort of service. one is the 2nd half of a pawn shop and is usually understaffed. they sell suppressors of a VERY large manufacturer and ive stood around for 45 mins after asking for help and no one helped me. ive gone in with the intention of showing a friend a certain gun they were interested it to get shrugged off
the 2nd is VERY small (a corner of an ace hardware) the other is a small room near outdoor range.

I go to the local gun show sometimes, mainly for mags/accessories. Since lots of the people selling are actually small businesses, I think it's a great way to support local gun shops and still get a great selection of stuff.

I love my local gun store. Too bad they're out of date on some product lines. According to them, Ruger doesn't make 25 round mags...

I shop for firearms online because I can find them 100 to 300 shipper! 95% of the time.

But there surplus ammo prices are pretty high for some calibers but yet again there the only ones who carry it
kniedelm 2 months ago
@mrtlsimon Man, you need to move over to PA and get out of NJ. NJ is very anti-gun. There are no 2nd amendment rights in NJ.

Wow that gun shop is nice! I support my gun shop too

The people there are super nice and helpful.
theemperor0 2 months ago
@theemperor0 Yeah, Kempf has a unique personality for sure. But I shop there for loading supplies. The prices on powder and stuff aren't bad. I just don't try to have a conversation with him, he doesn't like to talk much. I just heard about Citadel today and look forward to swinging by out there to check them out.
Sturmgewehre 2 months ago
@Sturmgewehre That's for sure. Yeah it's not terrible priced there, the only thing I have a problem with is he is the distributor for like everything east of Mississippi for the brand of reloading stuff he sales. So there's not real competitive prices to keep the from jacking up the prices if he felt like it. You should defiantly check them out sometime. They aren't open on Sundays or Mondays, and close at 5-6pm on the days they're open.

yes i do...in fact i just recently bout a ak from one

Depends on the town, but amen brother. The more the merrier.
We need to have as many gun shops as practical and we need to make our voices heard.
Thanks, I really like your vids.
