We were parked and the engine was turned off. This is the advice that was given for this situation. We did not excite or angry them in any way. Spreading their ears is a clear sign they disapproved our presence.
Sorry. Not saying you are bad guys. you where just lucky. If they, the grey big ones, whant to cross exactly where you are with your car, just start engine and go (quick and fast) and leave them their path.Whe stayed there and in Pongola, Kruger and Namibia very often and we had to learn (from the big ones and from the rangers) as well. But anyway. They are impressive personalities, are´nt they?
Great vid... I had similiar experiences in Hluhluwe - bloody frightening stuff - but so extraordinary too! Love both the window going up (would it have really helped? haha) and the look you your friends' face! Priceless!
ja, ja a cow,........
the elephant walking straigt up to you is a bull!!!! and not a cow. The cows were passing in front of you!.
Beside that you can see it (much bigger, rounder forehead etc.), believe me, i work in this park and know the bull (skew tusks)

Hehe, now that I have a closer look, it's a bull indeed! Thanks for pointing that out! BTW loved Hluhluwe game reserve.

You where lucky to escape that!
First of all it is their (the olifants) invironment there and the cows just whant, and have to protect their young ones.
Secondly this big cow could have dent your car and in worst case "scratch you a bit" very easily.
Third: be polite to them and give way! We are the guests there. We enter their home and they set the rules. We as guests should obey their requests.
