why dont they just set them free. ya know, reunite them with their natural habitat and that kinda stuff. Dont get me wrong I love wat they're doing but keeping them caged is just... not right in my eyes.
Uuuuuhhh...you're aware that humans populate over 40% of all habitable land, and the last 60% is desert, antarctic or frozen wasteland. Humans have consumed the good parts of the worlds, the places cats naturally breed.
Even if they were set free, these are TAME animals, you cannot set a tame animal into the wild.
The third and probably most important is that the animals food is gone. Most big cats eat a large diet of smaller animals, and many of them are endangered or extinct.
According to recent survey there are 12,000 Tiger have been kept as private pet in USA (4000 in Texas alone). And Animal Care Association like yours trying to put a ban to have these exotic animals in all over USA. so , What would you expect these thousands of animals will go? I am just curious, bcz you might not be able to accommodate another 50 or so. Any plans for that?
I understand what you're saying, but this abuse as to stop, if the ban on private ownership was enforced across the country at least no more animals would suffer this fate in the future.
Would it not make more sense to focus on educating people on keeping big cats, rarther than trying to abolish it. As long as they are kept in correct conditions, such as the ones stated in the video "Big cats are not pets". I prefer to see big cats in the wild. By the way, congratulations on the Animal Planet Hero of the Year (: You deserved it.
Hi, no this would go against everything we are trying to do at BCR. We have to draw the line somewhere, big cats should never have been kept as "pets" in the first place. Scott did deserve it, thanks for the well wishes :)
It's so nice to see them have some space to play and run around. Specially the tiger in the water pond there. Best place is for them in the wild, but I understand poaching is a huge problem as is habitat loss. Either way, it's good to see that they have at least some semblance of a home.
Philips20001, I remember chatting with you. I quite enjoyed it. Our main website link is found linked on our channel profile. This comment window does not allow links. BigCatRescue*org is our main site. ChatBigCats*com is our newest animal site.
Ruger1993, yes big cats can get fleas. Here at Big Cat Rescue it takes quite a bit of flea prevention to avoid the cats here from having fleas. Fleas make an animal simply miserable whether it is a domestic or wild animal. As for do big cats purr, you can visit our website to find that answer. When you find it send me a message with the link to our page that you found it on and I'll send you a free photo postcard. Sometime's it is fun to find the answers to our own questions.
hoqw come you don't have any ov the smaller cats on? there are a lot more big cats than just lions 'n' tigers, i'm sure you could find some somewhere? :)
Philips20001, we don't try to find cats. We take in captive wild cats that need a safe, peaceful permanent home. Cats come to us from performing acts, backyards, basements & other various types of situations. Currently residing at Big Cat Rescue are cats of all sizes from the little tiny Sand Cats to big tigers. There are: Lions, Tigers, Cougars, Bobcats, Sand cats, Geoffroy Cats, Caracal Lynx, Siberian Lynx, Candadian Lynx, Ocelots, Leopards and Servals etc.
ooops didn't mean to imply you went looking for them soz. :) yea i found your website ty, they're beuties, have you thought about installing web cams?
Phillips20001 webcams would be an awesome addition. We would love that however, at this point cost is an issue. The need of a higher/better perimeter fence to keep people from shooting paint balls at the cats again has to be the higher priority. Someday maybe the dream of webcams will be reality. Since the cats have such large enclosures it would be quite a task to make sure people were able to see the cats. Until then we will keep posting as many videos as we can. Thank you again for caring.
Oh you should. The screensavers and desktop wallapers and puzzles would even make great gifts to give to your family and friends for the upcoming holiday. (besides, I think you'd enjoy them too)
Smile. I understand. Thank you for your comments and for surfing our website. Did you get you some free desktop wallpapers and screensvers while you were surfing our website?
omg, such an animal will eat you in 6 month from his/her birth if you do not know what you are doing....and probably you don't a minute of experiences with being with big cats. if you want to be artound them, try volunteering at i.e.Big Cat rescue or at any other cat sanctuary and you will see....
i live in england, we dont have big cats here, all we have are tiny house cats and i alrerady have two :). pitty that coz i would love to be working with animals like that.
We have had interns from England come to work here in the internship program. In fact one young man from England was here not too long ago. You never know what the future holds. In the meantime there are still ways you can get involved in saving these cats and the wild habitats for their wild 'relatives'. I don't know what I'd do if I lived that far from Big Cat Rescue. (I'd simply die)
yea i bet it's exhilarating being soo close to something so powerful and having them bond with you like that :) . it's unimaginable to me living here, but yea its something to dream about :) alright :)
I'll tell you what, spend some time surfing around & reading on our website then drop me a message & tell me what you found out & what you think about it. Years ago before I learned & saw first hand how badly those 'pet' situations turn out I said the same thing you did. A lion lives many years, & usually after the first year people are trying to get rid of them which turns out to be not an easy task. Go surf and let me know what you find out. Get some free screensavers while you're there.
And what happens to that cat when in a year it is too big, too unpredictable, too danerous, costs too much to feed and care for? Zoos don't want exotic cats that come from the pet trade? Sanctuaries are full? What are you going to do with it then? Where will it spend the next many years of its life? What kind of life will that cat have? Again I suggest you surf our website and do some reading before making that mistake. Lions do NOT make Good pets; it never works out well for the cat.
Why would you want to do that? Baby lions grow up quickly and are not good pets. Do you have any clue what the cost of properly feeding one is? What about space to run? What about a vet? How are you going to find one? How are you going to get it back and forth to the vet. PLEASE visit our website and surf around before considering buying a lion. We are strictly against individuals owning these animals as pets. These large carnivores do not belong in backyards for so many reasons.
Thank you very much. Have you ever gotten to visit the sanctuary? If you visit the Big Cat Rescue website there is a lot of stuff on there you might enjoy.
You can help ensure that more poeple see it if you will post its link everywhere you have access to post it. Add it to groups you belong to, send it to your friends and ask them to pass it along as well. If you have a blog or a webspace or a MySpace, Facebook or similar place you can post its link there, too. We would sure appreciate your help in promoting this video and our others videos, too. THANK YOU for watching and commenting.
We have several other videos that are longer and feature different cats. View our channel to see them. You can visit our website as well and learn more about us and the cats. You can download free screenavers, wallpapers, games, puzzles and more, too. We even have a Brand New eCards System on our website that you can use free to send eCards to all of your friends.
