@piedmilo It is a Visual Novel (a game per se); Kyoto decided to produce an anime from it. Kyoto has also produced anime from the VNs Air and Kanon which are made by the same people who made Clannad.
Clannad is, to this date, one of the best VN I have played through. There are a lot of details in the VN that you don't get in the anime and the plot is explained a lot better. For example: the ending in the anime confuses most people - but since I've played the VN I understand it :3

And ya, the dubbed version is terrible. I hate that my favorite anime was butchered like that.
To be fair though, certain points of the VN's continuity may seem confusing to someone who hasn't considered the situation from a non-linear standpoint. Unless you viewed the respective passage of time between the Illusionary world and the Real world as completely different, I'd understand how people might be confused about things like the original Nagisa's knowledge of the illusionary world.
Anime-wise, it seems more likely people just wrote off the illusionary world segments from the first season, then didn't revisit them when the end of Miyazawa's arc explained the orbs of light, or "shadows" as the doll referred to them as.

Like how the girl(Ushio) actually tells her robot-doll(Tomoya) that he exists in both worlds, and that if he collects 13 lights from the other world they can both leave together or something, which is the point of the game. In the anime, lights are just seen I think, and the legend is mentioned.
I didn't want to say it cause it might spoil it for someone, but they've been warned. Nishima(sp?) tells them the folk tale after Tomoya sees the light at the end of her arc. They're seen a few times through the anime as well, but when Tomoya and Ushio get back from their trip, Ushio sees the light go into Tomoya when he sends his dad off to live with his grandmother. At that point I started really hoping things wouldn't end the way they seemed like they would.
... Just realized that it's you again, and we're both likely just constantly listening to this song and commenting over and over. I'll probably mention the VN and reply to a bunch of people next week as well XD

Dang comment length limit. I didn't know that the VN makes you get 13, but in the anime the tale goes that you only need one. But I do admit that it is a little confusing the first time you watch the series. Took me a little bit to really understand what exactly had happened. And then I just smiled.
Technically, the majority of the light orb arcs are represented in the anime as well, though the endings are cut off since they were the only parts that would exclude the other paths. The only paths that were fully cut were Akio's, Kyou's, and Kappei's (He didn't even show up because his path branches from Kyou's). Sanae's, Komura's and Misae's paths were cut down a lot to fit, while the others just cut out the parts where Tomoyo starts a relationship.
@Odin1Davis Both - this soundtrack is used in both. The anime is very good.
Just a pro-tip: Don't watch the English-dubbed version of Clannad. It spoils the story an awful lot with their bad casting roles, mediocre voice-acting and horrible pronunciations of some of the characters' names.
If you're going to watch the anime, you should watch the ENG-sub for the best experience.

o mg i was listing to this in the middel of the night whiles i was doing work and i can instanly point out it is from clannad (randoma playlist) and it give me this chest pain....i couldn't listen to this anymore it remind me all the sad sences of uishiro inculding another world. its so painful that i couldn't breath. i went on youtube to see if there is anyone that felt what i felt but... i guess its just me

clannad is one of the most beautiful animes that i know (and i know quite a lot). when i watched CLANNAD and CLANNAD after story i cried my eyes out and when in listened to that song i also cried...it's just wonderful. i am eternally thankful to the mangaka who drew CLANNAD and to the people who made it into the amazing anime we all know and love.

When I was showing Clannad to my parents my dad asked what the subtitles on the bottom of the screen were for. I said, "They're the lyrics to the song in the background," He then asked, "What song?"
They were just that enthralled. :'D

o mg i was listing to this in the middel of the night whiles i was doing work and i can instanly point out it is from clannad (randoma playlist) and it give me this chest pain....i couldn't listen to this anymore it remind me all the sad sences of uishiro inculding another world. its so painful that i couldn't breath. i went on youtube to see if there is anyone that felt what i felt but... i guess its just me

clannad is one of the most beautiful animes that i know (and i know quite a lot). when i watched CLANNAD and CLANNAD after story i cried my eyes out and when in listened to that song i also cried...it's just wonderful. i am eternally thankful to the mangaka who drew CLANNAD and to the people who made it into the amazing anime we all know and love.
and of course i am thankful to xlolazox who gave us the opportunity to listen to that wonderful song....*deep bow*
