  • @saijames23 Yes, it will work absolutely fine. It's a great lens - you will love it!

  • will this perfectly work on Nikon D3100?

  • I have this lens and have compared it head to head with the Nik 70-200 VRII. they are dead set almost for sharpness and bokeh. this lens does start to suffer with low shutter speeds less than 1/60 sec, even with your best steadiness. however I picked mine up for $500, like new. worth every penny. would really like to see someone compare this lens against the 70-200 VR2, and 80-200 2.8. turn the VR off and mount them all tripod based and see which really is optically better, or worth the extra $.

  • what sports have you shot it with ?

  • @BillabongNJ Many lol. Soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, football, basketball, baseball, swimming, volleyball, water polo, and probably more that I'm forgetting haha

  • Comment removed

  • @srvwannabe nice nice I'm thinking about getting it for mainly surfing and baseball swimming .. etc model nikon have u mounted this lens on

  • @BillabongNJ Many again haha. d2h, d90, d300s, d7000, d700. It has some back-focusing issues on the d7000. I can fix it with fine tuning but just been too lazy. Its not a huge issue

  • can we use this on DX camera? Like D5100? I'm really confuse about 70-200, there was one store told me that the 70-200 F2.8 SIGMA APO D EX HSM may not work on Digital Cameras, is it true?

  • Does it need a camera with a built in focus motor to focus? For example, will it focus on the D5000?

  • how this lens works with handheld portraits? planning to get one for a wedding

  • @shintotz With weddings OS/VR would come in handy with unknown lighting conditions, I say rent it for 1 or 2 days to test it.

  • @Sindorai thanks for the response, I just got this lens as birthday present, I did test it handheld portrait and it works okay with me as long as it's 1/60 secs and above, it's pretty heavy though but i got big arms so doesn't really bother me and I don't shake that much. for still portraits, I used a tripod and works great.

  • @shintotz Nice, just opted to buy a monitor over it but I hope it's worth while since I've been deciding to get it myself lol, yah 1/60th is getting pretty long so it sounds like a good cut off

  • can you put a TC (teleconvertor) for this lens? like the nikon 70-200 f2.8

  • Will this lens fit on a Nion D7000

  • This wouldnt fit a Nikon d5100 would it...?

  • @MakeupByJenerator It should

  • what is the diference betwen this one and the OS one,if you had one ....

    OS optical stabilizator

  • This version here is NOT the VR version, as the VR version costs WAAYYYY more then 799.

  • olympus makes a 35 - 100 (70 200 equivalent) with fixed apperture of 2.0. :)

  • @DVaderlar 35-100mm isnt the same as 70-200mm, thats the 35mm equivelent, in which the sigma would be 140-400

  • @3NICKK 70 200 in full frame is 70 200. Olympus wont make full frame cameras so the 35 100 on a four thirds olympus camera is equivalent to 70 200. :)

  • what camera you use ?

  • Is it me or is there a high pitch sound in this video? Need to clean up the audio in post...

  • I've heard several things about AF and image quality/QC. I own two other Sigma lenses (one of which is the wonderful, fast and accurate 50 1.4), both of which are amazing.

I shoot sports mainly. I can't decide about this lens :/

  • @srvwannabe which lens do you recommend? 70-300 sigma, or the 70-200 sigma lens?

  • @Balcunni if i were you i would buy sigma 70-200 f/2.8 because its very good and it has good light even in zoom but 70-300 isnt good because the big zoom makes bad quality and i suggest buying sigma 70-200mm f2.8 cause you will be able to use it forever.

  • Does this have vr?

  • DONT BUY SIGMA THEY ARE NOT SHARP !!

  • i was about to order mine, then the price increase ugh sigma

  • I've paired this with the D3s. A-effing-MAZING!

  • How did you get it 799? they are now 949!

  • @ny1fanta

If you look at the description you'll see that I made this video over a year ago. They've since gone up in price

  • @srvwannabe oh i see, lol never expect those lens's price to go up.

  • @srvwannabe they just went back down now

  • @ny1fanta here i can get them new for 715 xD

  • @ny1fanta

Hey not sure where you are from, but here in Australia crkennedy is the authorized distributer and they are currently price matching any grey market sigma lens plus shipping that is offered for sale in australia. So at digiworldinternational they are offering this lens for 740 AUD plus shipping so it should put it right at 800 AUD not sure if digiworld ships worldwide but you may want to have a look at it.

  • @ny1fanta they only cost about 750 on ebay, if you see one around 1000 or more its probably the os version, which if you are going to spend that much more on a lens you mite as well just save a little more to get the nikon

  • I am still deciding between the old Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 and this one. Any input?

  • just got this!!! quility stuff man!!!

  • very nice review man

  • The pictures that you showed what was their focal lenght?

  • how do you manually focus it

  • micro nylon is called teflon :)

  • if anyone is confused you can use this on ANY camera but on the DX bodies there is a 1.5x crop factor so it is about a 105-300 2.8 (not necessarily a bad thing)

  • is it good for shooting sports at night? thanks

  • @jonjonnu 2.8 is the way to go for low lighting. =)

  • Can i use this on a Dx Camera

  • just ordered mine :)

  • the auto focus was slow because you have the lens cover on, had nothing to focus on

  • I can understand why people would buy this lens because funds may not be available to get the Nikkor or Canon L lens. I HAD to borrow a friends Sigma 70-200mm II and I'm couldn't stand that lens. I guess I've been spoiled with my Nikkor 70-200 for so long. There is a huge difference in clarity. At 200mm end the Sigma is worthless. Super blurry....but I guess you get what you pay for.

  • slow focusingg

  • how is the CA with this lens? I heard that version one of this lens had serious CA at 70mm wide open... Hope you can answer me as I am seriously considering this lens being on a budget. take care

  • I bought a few weeks ago the sigma 2.8 70-200mm. A perfect lens, about 649€. I don't miss the VR in the Nikon, because i shoot more then 1/500. Blurry pictures? No way. From the Netherlands, take care, and shoot.

  • does it have a built in motor for nikon D3000?

  • @adelphia666 I think so, but I am waiting on receiving it, HSM is the Hyper sonic motor, I guess it mean it has a motoor inside it for the auto focus

  • @adelphia666 yes

  • Keep making videos, your reviews are great. Sorry about that old comment on your reflective lens review back then, you have surely gotten a lot better

  • @srvwannabe i have a question.. is it worth the money even it does not have the os?? or should i save money and purchase the os version?.. im a photo hobbyist do you think i need the os or not??.. tnx in advance

  • @punksnes

Only you can make that decision. I can tell you that VR/OS is very useful. If you have the money, get the Nikkor with VR. If you don't have the money, you have to decide whether to get the Sigma, Tamron, or maybe the older Nikkor 80-200. The only thing I can tell you is that I haven't regretted getting the Sigma 70-200 at all.

  • @srvwannabe getting them for my canon 500d :) cant wait!

  • @punksnes the os version costs about 700$ more, just for a lens that can shoot about 4 stops faster in lower light. But mostly the reason people get this lens is to shoot sports or well lit photography. The f/2.8 aperture should get you through most conditions, but it depends on what you like to take pictures of. If you know you will be doing more work in the dark, then you should just save for the os version

  • @punksnes Depends what you're using it for. I'm using mine for motor sports. So I'm shooting above 200th of a second (since the lens is 200mm). But you may be shooting portraits and want a slower speed, so the OS would be handy.

  • hey sir srvwannabe, i would like to ask if does this thing have some sort of Optical Image Stablization?

  • @seventy7whitesheep

this model does not however Sigma has released a version that does have OS

  • @srvwannabe oh yeah ive seen it on amazon. it cost around 1.6k well if i wanna buy that lens. i would rather save up some more for the canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS version I right?

  • @seventy7whitesheep

Definitely. At that price you should definitely go with the Canon version. The sigma is very good but if you're going to spend that much, get the best-Canon or Nikon.

  • im getting the HSM version 1 but the second version its complicated.

  • Dear santa...

  • OMG I CANT WAIT TILL I GET MINE !! ! !!

  • hi, I bought the Sigma 70-200 for my Nikon D90 and I went to take some sport pictures but the clarity was very bad I had about 200pictures but did not get nore than 15-20good pitures, does that link to AF or what?

  • @muaz1970

Possibly. To test your autofocus, set up a controlled shoot where you use AF to focus on the subject then use MF. Compare the two images. If the AF one is off, then you might have to send the lens to Sigma for calibration

  • does this lens have goood bokeh? and would this be good for portraits, because the nikon version is

  • a plastic hood :D it's okay i doesn't care :D:D

should it be metal? :D show me one lense without a plastic lensehood

  • @bohnendose

Older pro lenses had metal, screw-mount hoods

  • Had this lens for a couple of months now... Gets the job done quite nicely! It surpassed my expectations for the price. The only thing is if i look closely at the glass, i see cloth cleaning streaks on the inside of the lens. I don't think it has visibly affected my image quality though.

  • great review

  • In the Dom Bower 70-200 HSM review he mentions chromatic aberration at 70mm. How is this one at 70mm?

  • Nikon pro lens keeps their value, Sigma lens don't!

  • I may be a canon user but....nikons are sexy ;D

  • great review. thanks

just wondering, is this the lens with "macro"?

  • Is it compatible with Cropped framed bodies like the Canon 60d?

And how does it compare to the Canon 70-200mm f/4 NON IS model?

    Thanks

  • how do you switch between auto and manual focus on this lens? and will this lens work with auto modes or just manual modes?

  • @skinydude

You have to change between auto and manual focus mode in your camera for this lens. Or just override the autofocus by spinning the focus dial. Yes, it will work in all modes

  • I was originally checking out the nikon 70-200mm and it's equals of other brands and I was told that this lens (sigma) has bad reviews and was told to check out the nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 if i couldn't afford the nikon 70-200. do you think it is because of nikon fanboys or is it bc the 80-200 is "better" than the sigma, bc i am thinking about the sigma more than the 80-200 nikon?

  • i looked at the prices of the sigma and nikon and the sigma was more expensive.

  • @TheVvlog

You're probably looking at the new version with OS

  • @srvwannabe ya, i figured that out after i watched a few more videos on it. what would you suggest as a good 70-200mm fixed aperture telephoto lens thats not as big bucks as nikon or the new sigma?

  • @TheVvlog

The one I have sells for $800. You won't find a better lens for that price.

  • @srvwannabe when i go full frame ill get it but right now im rocking the d60 upgrading to the d300s in a couple months. i just need a good fixed aperture telephoto lens for figure skating photography.

  • @TheVvlog You need to look again, the Nikon 70-200 F2.8 is almost 3x the cost.

  • Comment removed

  • I wanted to get this lens but here in UK the price of this lens is near enough the same as Canon so I thought I save a bit more money and get Canon lens. I am sure Sigma lens is really good but I don't understand why Sigma made lens that are nearly as expensive as Canon lens and Canon's lens are better, So most of Canon users rather go for Canon lens just because of the price range.

  • Does it fix & work with D90 Body perfectly ?

  • Hi srvwannabe. Do you know the differences between this 2nd model and the 1st model Sigma 70-200mm HSM lens?

  • @R4VING Don't see why not, assuming you get a good one. I use it on a D40, and if it works on that then it will work on a D90. If you are looking for a fast zoom, you will not regret this lens.

  • Canadian buyers receive 10 year warranty on all Sigma EX DG lenses, don't know why the US doesn't get this. I also own this lens, fantastic.

  • @PurpleCorvette

    Wow 10 years? thats fantastic!!

  • You are of the best reviewers I've seen on the YouTube. You speak at a moderate pace; you keep your subjects in order; and you speak with confidence and clearly. Very good job. And best of all you don't say "hmmm...", "aaaah..."!!!

  • Thanks for the review. I have a 135-400 APO. Sigma dropped this lens about the same time sony dropped the A700, witch I have. I have a A900 on the way and a 70-200. can you tell me if the ring mount is the same ?

  • its af is not accurate?

  • @hhhkkkhhhjkjki

Some people have complained of the focus being a bit off. My lens focuses perfectly but it's possible that others do not. No matter the case I'm sure Sigma would fix the problem if the lens is purchased new and has a problem out of the box

  • @hhhkkkhhhjkjki I have one, and have had no problems. Sigma's quality control is notoriously bad, but if you get a bad apple they should take care of it.

  • image stabilizer/ optical stabilizer/ I.S slows down auto focus?

  • is D90 working fast with this lens?

  • can you use this lens for the d3000?

  • Hey would I be able to mount this on my Nikon D60 and still have good autofocus? Thanks

  • Ive read some reviews, it talks about chromatic aberration, and this lens soft focusing at 200, is it really that bad? do you honestly notice it in real life pictures?

Please let me know as Im thinking to buy this VS the tamron

    Thanks, good review btw

  • fuckin pisses me off when i hear "NIE-KON" it's pronounced "NI' KON".

obviously no one understands what "Nikon" stands for.....

  • @whenthesunsleeps777

Well in America thats how EVERYONE says it so deal with it =)

  • @srvwannabe -Thank you for correcting him. It's clear when people are not very cultured and educated. Different cultures pronounce some words differently. If he's a photographer, it's sad that he would treat a colleague like that. He's quite distraught over it..

-He actually lives his life that way! Poor guy.. I feel sorry for him. Lol.

  • @srvwannabe Its Japanese and its pronounced Nee Kon...

    I should start saying Noi Yerk~ :P just kidding~

  • @motu828mk2

I'm aware that Nikon is Japanese and is pronounced Nee-kon in most of the world. I was merely saying that in America it is pronounced differently.

  • @srvwannabe NIE KON rolls of the tongue better

  • Comment removed

  • @whenthesunsleeps777 dont mind, nikons shit anyway

  • Good review, Im must ask...whats the difference between this one (ii) vs the first one dom bower reviewed?

    Thanks

  • the speed of this lens is very slow, even slower than the canon 55-250 is, what happen to it? I saw some super fast examples and slow example

  • @hfpong

I agree it does seem slow in this video but when I use it out in the field its lightning fast. Several times I would be shooting baseball and be tracking the baserunner and another player would run between us. The lens would focus on the other player instantly. It is a great lens.

  • lool looking at D3

i can careless about your siggy. lmao

    j/k

  • Forget this sh!t, get the real thing.

  • is it a Sigma 70-200mm, F2.8 II, APO EX DG MACRO HSM for Nikon or Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM for Nikon?

  • @Bemir100

    it's MACRO HSM.

(the full name is actually MACRO HSM II).

  • ! the AF is actually slower than I expect

  • That was a wonderful review and touched on all the questions that I had in mind regarding this lens, thanx for sharing ur thoughts on this lens, now I gotta save up to get one. I'm hoping to use it for some 'squash' photography (as in squash the sport - kind'a like racquetball in the states) and that is played indoors, so the 2.8 should help my cause without me having to exchange my life insurance policy for the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR II. Thanx once again, great review

  • oh my f(*****)ng gosh ... how can you lay down your d3 that way oO

  • good review!!!

  • Ehh, i still rather save for the nikon.

  • A good friend of mind came by with a camera it nikon 70s and he want to sell me it be couse he no that am are artist and i love wound picture that i can paint from so i have the camera but only thing miss is the plug, Am thing of call radio shack to see if they may have a plug i pray they do.

  • getting this lens soon...cant wait!!! btw great review..

  • I have the canon 70-200 2.8L and the sigma 50-500 and sigma 10-20 and I feel the quality of the sigma EX line is top notch--good quality

  • Got this on my 1D MK IIN and focus is sooo lightning fast. good review man!

  • I have a Nikon D5000, My camera does not have an internal af motor so only lenses with internal af motors will focus automatically. Is this lens fully compatible with the Nikon D5000?

  • @benryan1 It's HSM, it should be able to AF

  • I think Tamron Canon lens are fast. They have to put the auto focus motor in the lens. With Nikon Tamron just uses the auto focus motor in the Nikon body.

  • AF seems twice as slow as the Nikkor. I'm waiting for the new 70-200 with OS reviews...hope its a great lens but they still keep the low pricing, but you'd never know. Can't get something for nothing right?

  • That looks like a really nice lens. I have a Minolta Maxxum HTsi and I'm looking for that 70-200mm Sigma lens but I'm having trouble finding one. Thanks for the info though. I'll still keep an eye out for it.

  • there is no OS version of this lens anyway! at least not in the UK or europe

  • In Dom Bower's video, he said the old version has severe chromatic aberration at 70mm. Has this issue been fixed with this new lens? Thanks

  • I am sorry but the lens you are showing is not the Optical Stabilizer version of this lens. It is just the HSM lI without any image stabilization. Have you got any chance to really try out the new OS version? Let me know.

  • @wolfmiffy

I never said this was the OS version. Listen a little more closely to the video.

  • @srvwannabe he even sais that he wont like is/os/vr on this lens! I will get mine tomorrow!

  • Comment removed

  • people , i have a D90 nikon , camera , i got a 70- 300 lens and a 17 50 wide angel , im kinda new at this , so i need to understand for example a 70 300mm lens , what is the 70 stands for and what does it measure and also the 300mm ?

  • is that equal to the af-s lens with the motor built in?

  • thanks for the review :)

    what is your camera body?

  • I just got it today from B&H because of your review. Thanks!!!!!!

  • @azbor1cua

    You'll love it! =)

  • @azbor1cua All out of stock everywhere ! :-( NOOOO

  • @TheRealChina i think i saw some on amazon

  • @RngrOnTheEdge : They were all for Nikon mount. But i saw just yesterday that someone is selling this for $849... something

so this is the 2nd version ?

  • im getting it today !! :) , i was worry about the camera weight bit heavy for me , but monopod always an option i guess , a lots photographer manage in the old day using big lenses without i.s or o.s , soo i think i wont spend more money just to buy the "stabilizer" when non i.s / o.s produce same kinda pics quality ... thanks for your video.

  • hi , just wondering if this lens good for potrait work ? for wedding ? is it good for lowlight result ?thank you

  • @freakyfriday2211

Yes this lens is excellent for portrait work. Nice creamy backgrounds at 2.8 and amazing clarity at 5.6. Alot of photographers use a 70-200 for weddings so yes I would say this is an excellent wedding lens. In low light you can't much better than 2.8 at this focal range without spending alot more money

  • ill get it today !!! i been thinking of this lens and keep watching this reviews and others alots , i was worry about the weight of the lens , and produce lots of shake ... but monopod always an option i guess . thanks for quick respond !!

  • @srvwannabe

ill get it today !!! i been thinking of this lens too long & cant decide .i was worry about the weight of the lens are bit heavy for me , but monopod is always an option i guess, thanks for quick respond .

  • @srvwannabe now i have a 55-200mm lens. will this just be like my lens? and also compare to my 18-55.

  • did it work on the canon eos 500d? (canon version)

  • The Canon version of this lens should be compatible with all Canon DSLRs

  • thanks nice review!

  • It fits Canon Eos 500D if you have the canon verson.

Canon 500D can take Canon EF and EFS lens

  • It will.

I toyed around with one today at my local henrys, it's damn nice.

  • Comment removed

  • Great review. I got mine late last year and I've been blown out the water with every function it provides. D90+batt grip+70-200mm combo. This lens is really worth everything you spend on it.

  • Looks like Sigma got it right with this lens! I'm considering the new version of this lens that has OS this time.

  • The new version does look great. Its probably going to be an additional $1000 for OS though.

  • @srvwannabe The new version sounds like a different lens entirely. Although it will have the same focal range, minimum focusing distance is increased from 39.4" to 55". Also, maximum magnification has changed from 1:3.5 on the current model to 1:8 on the new one.

I have a Pentax K20D with SR (shake reduction - Pentax's version of IS) so I just ordered the current model. Will be here on Monday!

  • is it pasible to use it on d60?

  • yes
