Nice collection of national anthems and all, but in my opinion the three best anthems of Europe where missing or skipped. "Državna himna Bosne i Hercegovine" the national anthem of Bosnia. Also skipped Serbia "Боже Правде", and my favorite anthem from Europe was aslo skipped: Montenegro anthem which is "Ој, свијетла мајска зоро".

I thought the Bulgarian anthem sounds mysterious in a beautiful way, when I heard a choir version of it. Even Slovakia and Norway was beautiful.

The Irish Anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann has a beautuful melody too, but I don'nt like to sing the lyrics, since it's about soldiers and war. It's the same with the French Marselliaise, good melody but terrible text......

The brits wanted to publish the notes of the melody in their magazine that they had on the Faroes during the occupation (I acctually have a copy of that particular edition). And they chose the one that was easier to play and sing and that song has since been regarded as THE Faroese Anthem (the other one has faded into obscurity, though most people know the song)

I'm partial to the Faroese Anthem, but that might be because I'm from the Faroe Islands...

Fun fact about the Faroese Anthem: In the early 20th century (1900-1943) there were two patriotic songs that were unofficially regarded as national anthems. However during the British occupation during WWII the Faroes were cut off from denmark (unfortunately we are still part of DK, though we have self-rule). And the englishmen (most of them scots... we weren't used to visitors... most foreign people tbc..

Maltese, Russian, Dutch and Polish anthem rocks! Monaco's is like upbeat and warlike. Dutch is laid back. The Polish is powerful and upbeat. Russian is like "We're on top of the world. SLAVA ROSSIYA!" I hear it too much but I love it! The portuguese coat of arms and flag is seen all over town. We have a "Little Portugal" San Marino's is sleepy.

As a patriot, i`ll always support Polish anthem, but i must say that i liked French, Italian and Romanian also... besides of the others.

Btw. the Polish anthem, "Dąbrowski Mazurka", was also inspirtion for the all-Slavs anthem, "Hey slaveni" and it used to be the nthem of Yugoslavia or Slovkia during WWII, Ukrainian anthem is partly inspired by it as well.

I really really liked Slovakia's, and Russia's is awfully catchy (been mumbling it under my breath almost every day for a month now).

I have a thing for Hungary's too, esp since watching Children of Glory. Romania's is the most inspiring ('course, I can't claim to be objective). Slovenia's and Poland's aren't bad either.

However! IMHO, Bulgaria's anthem wins the contest. I've listened to it over 99 times and I even learned the lyrics by heart. Amazingly powerful music and very pretty language:)

About your collection, though. I don't think Cyprus should be in there, because it's geographically part of Asia. Also, you have the old S&M anthem. Shouldn't you have the anthems of the now separate Serbia and Montenegro instead?

The Republic of Cyprus has been a member state of the European Union since 1 May 2004. So that's why it's included.

Thanks for explaining Cyprus. I love geography. So for the heck of it, I memorized the names of all 193 sovereign states. Then I memorized the names of all the non sovereign territories and breakaway unrecognized states.
