I play the rhythm as: DD slap DU DD slap and then a muted DU as I switch chords. and I also go down to the 8th fret to play c major and c7.

Hey Marty, i dont know how you make that percussive strumming sound with using the inner side of your hand. If i try to do that, i hear the chord a little bit more dull, but definitely not percussive, only when i really knock it hard i can hear that sound, but after doing it 10 times my hand looks like dive it into hot water.^^
