If anyone's still looking for it, This wonderful track is on the re-released version of the Don't Stand Me Down album. Can't wait for the new album in 2012. Go on Kev!
SSorry I'm french...This video shows the hallucinated work of Kevin Rowlands, my daughter aged only 11 is really estonshid by the evolution of Rowlan's voice. This great great voice...Now i can understand correctly the songs, am I dreaming about seeing them again in London ? Are they expected for studio or something else?
Please, if you have news, give them to me.
We would enjoy the trip to see them in England, by the way my daughter is learning English...Hannah Montana is out ! Many thanks.
Can anybody help me with the lyrics? Remember Kevin changed a lot in the original verses that can very easily be found elsewhere on the Internet. Here's what I have (asterisks indicate doubts):
What a fantastic version. I've always loved Sinatra's but this is a real gem. Kevin almost sounds like Elvis without the Mississippi drawl. Great upload, thanks!
Haven't listened 2 'DEXY'S M R' since I was 15. LOVED them then. GR8 2 find them here. LOVE this, goin straight 2 my 'FAVS' Thanx 4 posting this,I LOVE this song. GR8 VID 2.X
This sounds even better when you know how it was made. I was Dexys' pianist at the time. During a break from recording some of us were fooling around at the piano playing some old songs when Kevin came back into the studio. He said 'do you know this?' and started singing this song. We all joined in and at the end he said 'OK let's just do it!' and we just did! - first take, unrehearsed. All the more remarkable as everything else we did was so meticulously arranged and rehearsed.
Hi, abigillygal - seems you didn't believe me, but that's how it happened. We ran through it once to learn the chord sequence and decided how to end it, but otherwise we all just played what we felt, including the way the whole band surges in as KR goes mental towards the end. I'm not making a big deal of it - most musicians could do that. I just posted my comment as I know that Dexys fans like to know all the details.
Loved your story Mick and loved the video. What are you up to yourself these days?I have been sitting up into the small hours listening to the great man himself.Who would you say has a voice similar to Kevins? "I have been searching everywhere but cant find one anywhere." Can you help me? What do you think of his ITS OK JOANNA track on My Space?
@mickbolton1 seen you playing the waltz mick and your piano is heartbreaking and inspirational.don't stand me down is up there with the best and you're part of that.kevin is one of a kind,a visionary really.was he difficult to work with?people seem to have conflicting views about the man.
@davidizod It was recorded in Sep1984, during the making of the Don't Stand Me Down album. It's amazing to read all the great comments about this track - I never even thought it would be released as we just recorded it on the spur of the moment. I think it sounds better every time I hear it. You can hear all the individual players just improvising and enjoying a freedom they didn't often get in the studio! There's more about this track and the making of the album on my website.
@mickbolton1 Thanks, Mick for your reply. It's not on the album is it? I have always had an interest in all things Dexy's: I was good mates with Pete Williams at one time and still see him from time to time. I think 'Don't stand me Down' is a great album. On the 2003 tour (which Pete was on) I think the stuff from 'Rebels' and 'Don't Stand..' stood up much better than anything from the Too Rye Aye album that I think is massively over rated.
@davidizod Yeah straight up man. Whilst Too Rye Aye feature many a great track, and was the album that initiated my devotion for Dexy's, since then I have come to love some of their older stuff, especially the Young Soul Rebels stuff which features many of my favourites.
Pretty cool. He does do wondrous weird things with this in that last verse, especially that abrupt, punchy ending! Always loved "Eileen," never thought to dig deeper. Got anymore buried treasure from them?
Maybe I had something of a similar experience in that I would sometimes catch "Come On, Eileen" on tv and then it would be gone without my knowing any of the names. It was here at youtube earlier this year with those socalled "related" videos that I recognized &

Não há de quê. Além de COME ON EILEEN e GENO, há mais coisas boas do Dexys.
Veja que legal o comentário do Mick Bolton no início, ele participou da gravação da música.

Some day, when I'm old and **bleak**
when my days are gray
I will be amazed just thinking of you
and the way you look tonight.
All your dreams may never ever fail
Keep that breathless charm
and never rearrange it cause I love you
And the way you look tonight.
estambre66 1 year ago
Each kiss, your tenderness grows,
Touching my very heart
And that smile that wrinkles your nose,
I **touch** your smile: Foolish hope
I **say**: Let me never ever leave
Keep that breathless charm
and never rearrange it, oh no, **you**
I love the way
I love the way you look tonight

are great tracks and still rock
