Look at Parcells and how successful his assistants have been. You got Belichick facing Coughlin both Parcells assistants. Parcells knew how to motivate his men through extreme ways and knew most of the time when to chew their asses out. You can also see Coughlin and Belicheck resemble a lot of Parcells through being tough on their players. Belicheck was the defensive coordinator and Coughlin the receivers coach.
